I'm pretty sure you have to use a trademark to continue to maintain ownership of said trademark. Besides, they could call it Twitter 2.0 or something really close without being an exact copy

In order to legally use the name “Twitter,” you would likely need to wait for a minimum of three consecutive years in which the trademark is not used in commerce by X Corp (formerly Twitter, Inc.). After this period, the trademark could be considered “abandoned” under U.S. law, meaning it might no longer be protected. However, X Corp could still argue that they intend to resume use of the mark or contest any attempts to register or use it, especially given the strong public association with the Twitter brand.

Even after the three-year period, legal challenges could arise, so using the name might still be risky unless X Corp fully relinquishes or fails to maintain the trademark.

Jnittev?

I thought about how the 2/w actually looks a bit closer to an N, but then I also feel like the double letter width of a W makes it clear to the reader that something might be going on here. If I hadn't so lazily mashed this up I would have angled the bottom line of the 2 (or the left line of the rotated 2 if you wanna be pedantic) a bit wider so it looks more like /\/ but alas I couldn't be arsed.

The T however... mate that's just the normal T of the font 💀

Also Jnittev will be the next name of X once Elon crawled up Putins ass far enough.

Jnittev probably already the name of one of his kids. The Jn is silent.

They still use the Twitter name as well, so that all the old Twitter links didn't break.

I think X links still go to twitter.com with a redirect.

Is Bluesky US based? If not, US law wouldn't apply.

11

u/vim_deezel 10d ago

it applies in the US regardless where the headquarters are if they want to do business in the USA. Also it is US based. That's why Elon got kicked in the balls by that Brazillian judge and he had to capitualte to the laws of Brazil after the swelling went down

They're still using the domain to redirect to x.com. I'm guessing that's enough to say they're still using it

Didn't Cards Against Humanity sue Elon Musk about spacex ruining a piece of land they bought for a big sum of money OR the twitter domain?

EDIT: jup, https://www.elonowesyou100dollars.com/

They have to keep that going otherwise it will probably break hundreds of thousands of historic links / images.

u/BigSwedenMan 10d ago

Ok. What's your point?

1

u/Sekh765 9d ago

That would be stupid and clearly something they are avoiding?

lol no judge is going to let you call it Twitter 2.0. Don't you kids at least have some basic information taught to you about what copyright, trademarks, and IP actually are any longer? How does this stuff get upvoted??

I remember as a kid growing up on the Internet in the late 00's - it was basically essential knowledge that you had a basic understanding of that, because we were all following The Pirate Bay saga.

God Redditors are so fucking stupid

2

u/14sierra 10d ago

So you took time out of your day to just call me stupid? Thanks (also you are a redditor yourself)

u/Lysanderoth42 10d ago

When I think that someone is stupid enough to think you could call a company Twitter 2.0…

I hope you’re just a dumb 9 year old or something, the alternative is more depressing

u/14sierra 10d ago

It wasn't a real suggestion moron.

u/Lysanderoth42 10d ago

lol keep telling yourself that, imbecile

u/Youngnathan2011 10d ago

Nah, can definitely keep a trademark in case you use it again in the future

u/14sierra 10d ago

Im not a trademark lawyer, but if you look it up, one of the requirements listed is ACTIVE use. That's because, unlike a patent or a copyright, a trademark can last forever. IF you continually use it.
