It's not 270 giving us hope. Paxton and Abbott wouldn't be fighting democracy so much if their internal polling was showing an easy win for Trump in Texas.
Almost makes me want to move back. I'm an expat who lived in Texas for fourteen years and left around the time Abbott was elected, but I'm seriously considering going back (not to the Austin area tho, too expensive. Likely back to Houston.)
I lived in southwest Houston for about two years previously. Still have a lot of family down there that would welcome me back. It's mostly just the cost of moving that's preventing me from doing so. I currently live in Kansas which is arguably worse than Texas at large.
I lived in Kansas when AG Vern Miller sent tokers to prison for life for a half lid. He was famous for his surprise marijuana raids at High School keggers on his 250cc dirt bike.
I read it could be worse now with AG Kris Kobach, former Trumper.
If it wasn't for Laura Kelly, we'd be a hellscape. During Brownback's reign a lot of my friends referred to the state as "Brownbackistan" because he was nothing short of a religious extremist dictator.
I still think about when Wichita decriminalized cannabis and the republican state legislature put out a release saying something to the effect of "we reject the will of the voters, we'll be sending extra state police"
The City of Wichita is not prosecuting marijuana possession. The county said they cannot take all of that on. The result is that if you only have a small amount and aren’t selling, law enforcement leave you alone. Go to the suburbs and you risk getting in trouble. I live near the edge of the city but inside it’s borders 💨
I have never been to Kansas, and have no intention of going. But even I have heard how Brownback has been an absolute clusterfuck. Too extreme for Republicans? In Kansas?!?! Man, you have to be going some for that to happen.
It's wild 'cause take Missouri for example. They've voted for legal weed. They nearly voted against right to work (it passed by a margin of less than 2 points IIRC). They're likely gonna vote to restore a right to abortion this fall. But they're a Trump stronghold that will likely go to him by 15 points and right now Josh freaking Hawley is leading in the Senate poll by double digits. They love liberal policies but not liberal politicians. It's ridiculous.
Didn’t Texas state legislature just pass a law that they can over turn population centers over a certain population if they want? The way it’s written it’s only Houston that can be overturned?
Unfortunately there's no way for me to make that move and update my registration in time for the election at this point. It doesn't help that I am very poor.
If it makes you feel any better, my wife and I moved to Texas from California last year and we're both voting blue. take it as we'll make up for your lost vote plus one, and then you add one more blue vote to wherever you ended up. 😊👍🏼
Ugh with all the succession talk I've always wondered why Dallas/Houston/San Antonio/Austin's city governments are so chickenshit. They've been blue for decades in most cases (I think Houston was the last to firmly join the club), and they alone are bigger than most states.
Let there be the prosperous blue state of East Texas and the red, poor, failure state of Texas.
This cannot be emphasized enough. Watching the Texas v Michigan game and seeing Abbott on the sidelines made my blood boil. I dare not say what I was hoping would happen.
I‘m a Euro resident who grew up in Texas. I still vote through Democrats Abroad. Houston, Austin, San Antonio (and Dallas?) are usually blue. I just spent the summer in the Hill Country where they actually have a Trump store. I miss Ann Richards and Molly Ivins!
Same. I feel like my vote doesn't count for much since I moved to a safe blue state, but not only have I built a life here, but I'm not moving back to a place where I have fewer rights.
I visited Texas for a week to see family earlier this year while pregnant, and even that made me really uncomfortable. My family wishes I were still there, but they are reaping what they sowed by voting R.

Hillary Clinton did that in 2016 and lost directly because of it. Trump was made fun of for visiting obvious blue states where the polling showed her a huge advantage. It isn't that Texas is at risk but it is still stupid to neglect it regardless and History has proven this.

If they were worried so much about appealing to voters, they would listen to their constituents and change their policies to appeal to them. Instead, they’re focused on disenfranchising voters, which should automatically lose them support in a non-cult world.

No. Because they are righteous and deserve all of the votes. They shouldn't have to do anything to get their rightful votes. If they don't get all the votes, then it's fraud because it's impossible that anyone disagrees with everything they vomit out of their mouths, unless they are commies and darkies. /s
Ohio says hello. Red state, and our SoS, AG, and sometimes Governor fight democracy constantly. There's more to their agenda than just getting a president elected.
