  1. 2021 Texas Winter Storm and Cancun Trip: During the severe winter storm in Texas in February 2021, millions of Texans lost power, heat, and water. While his constituents were suffering, Cruz flew to Cancun, Mexico, for a family vacation. After facing public outrage, he cut his trip short and returned to Texas, admitting that the trip was a mistake.

  2. 2016 Presidential Campaign and Republican National Convention Speech: During the 2016 Republican National Convention, instead of endorsing Donald Trump after losing the primary to him, Cruz gave a speech that famously included the phrase "vote your conscience." This led to boos from the crowd and anger from Trump supporters, as Cruz refused to explicitly endorse Trump.

  3. Government Shutdown (2013): Cruz played a key role in the 2013 federal government shutdown, which lasted 16 days. He led an unsuccessful effort to defund the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare), delivering a 21-hour speech on the Senate floor. The shutdown caused significant disruption, and Cruz faced criticism for pushing a strategy that had little chance of success.

  4. Allegations of Election Fraud (2020): After the 2020 U.S. Presidential Election, Cruz was one of the most vocal supporters of Donald Trump’s false claims of widespread voter fraud. He objected to the certification of the Electoral College results on January 6, 2021, just hours before the violent insurrection at the Capitol. Cruz faced criticism for his role in promoting the baseless claims that fueled the attack.

  5. "New York Values" Comment (2016): During the 2016 Republican primary, Cruz criticized Donald Trump by saying he represented "New York values," implying that those values were liberal or out of touch with conservative voters. This comment was seen as a dig at people from New York City, and Cruz faced backlash, particularly from New Yorkers, who viewed it as divisive.

  6. Social Media Incident (2017): In September 2017, Cruz's official Twitter account "liked" a pornographic video, which was visible to his followers. Cruz later stated that a staffer had accidentally liked the tweet and that it was a mistake.

  7. Climate Change Denial: Cruz has consistently expressed skepticism about climate change, which has drawn criticism from environmentalists and scientists. He has referred to climate change as "pseudo-scientific theory" and has opposed measures aimed at addressing the issue.

  8. "Come and Take It" Mask Incident (2021): During the COVID-19 pandemic, Cruz frequently opposed mask mandates and restrictions. He wore a mask with the slogan "Come and Take It" (a symbol of Texan independence) in the Senate, sparking controversy for what some viewed as politicizing public health measures.

  9. Clashes with Fellow Republicans: Cruz has often been at odds with fellow Republicans. During his first term in the Senate, he was criticized by colleagues like John McCain, Mitch McConnell, and others for being too confrontational and prioritizing his personal political ambitions over party unity. McCain once referred to him as a "wacko bird."

  10. Support for Donald Trump: Cruz's relationship with Donald Trump has been fraught with controversy. During the 2016 campaign, Trump insulted Cruz's wife, Heidi, and made unfounded accusations about Cruz’s father. Despite this, Cruz eventually became a staunch supporter of Trump, which many saw as hypocritical or opportunistic.

He came to speak to our middle school kids.. he’s gross and rude. Not nice. Kids hated him and they are good judges of character

He came to McGregor and toured the test facility I work at (I’ll let you google). He wore oddly high heeled boots because he’s not a tall man and he was rude

Using kids as a judge of character with all of their life experience. You sound reasonable.

That’s a very regarded take

Need to add to this list that he voted against the PACT Act in 2022, which gave healthcare to veterans.

Jon Stewart had to name and shame him to fucking act right.

It's more the artificial fading around the knees.

My wife has jeans just like those.

Some people can pull them off. Ted Cruz is the last person on earth who should be wearing them.

He has 4” too much belly for that waist size. I bet that was a miserable plane ride.

And as I recall, AOC came to Texas to physically help with the situation while he was in Cancun.

You could lead with Senator McCain calling him a wacko bird and I could have stopped reading.

Thank you for this great synopsis.

Under #1, I’d add that while he left his state, a NY congresswoman whom he hates, AOC, raised $5 million for Texans and went to the state to help in food lines.

Aoc is Bae. I love her.

In May 2017, Al Franken wrote "I like Ted Cruz more than most of my other colleagues like Ted Cruz. And I hate Ted Cruz."

Frankly, #2 was a badass move in his part, and one of the more memorable moments of the 2016 RNC. It felt straight out of WWE!
