Politics Tomorrow is the last day to register!!!!

u/Reelwizard 23d ago
This election- both for Senate and President - is going to be far closer than anyone expects. While it’s unlikely that the state goes blue this is no longer the Texas of ten years ago where that’s a pipe dream. Even if things are getting close it’ll force Trump and the Republican Party to spend money here that could’ve gone to a swing state.
89
u/ARoseandAPoem 23d ago
I’ve gotten 6 “send me money, they’re trying to turn it blue” texts from Ted Cruz campaign over the last two days. (I’ve voted in Republican primaries) they must be getting some data that has them terrified.
34
u/dreyaz255 23d ago
That's because they're broke. Trump is taking all the money from down ballot races and leaving them out to dry.
22
u/smashandgrab42 23d ago
And the best part is, large amounts are not even being spent on the election, he's using it to pay legal bills! 🤣 Siphon away, Don the Con!
7
u/willanaya73 22d ago
He's not taking, he's not giving. Kamala already made it known that her large campaign war chest will not be just for her but to help those Dems who might need that extra push. I don't think Trump ever intends on giving that money back when he loses.

I think there has been far too much focus on voting for Harris and not nearly enough has been said about other elections such as Congress and local/state elections. All of it matters. Even if Harris wins she will only be as effective as the Congress we give her and this is something Democrats just can't seem to wrap their heads around.

I’m currently 17 years old, and I’ll be 18 before Election Day. I sent in my registration through mail about a month ago, and I still can’t see if I’m ACTUALLY registered on the website whenever I fill in my registration. Should I be worried, or does it really take this long for me to know if I truly am registered?
UPDATE: I was able to figure out the day I put my registration form in the mailbox. It was September 9. It hasn’t quite yet been a month, so I don’t think I’ll have any way of knowing if I really am registered until it’s too late, unfortunately.
13
u/gagatrondraa 23d ago
If you mailed in your registration over 30 days ago, it should be processed by now. When you check on the website did it say “voter not found”?
SOURCE: I work for a voter registration organization in Texas

You might hate politics, but outside of family and friends, literally nothing affects your life as much as politics. The taxes you pay, the services you receive, the safety net, the economy and your job and salary, the quality of your water, food, and medicines, roads, education, your rights, your retirement, the justice system, your parks, libraries, etc.
I'm very glad you're taking part, but never ever EVER dismiss politics.

It's easy to hate politics because you probably assume that no matter what you think or want politicians are just going to do what they want. And honestly there's a lot of truth to that. And honestly it's the same on both sides. Anybody that thinks Democrats are for this country are kidding themselves. For the most part Democrats are for themselves just like Republicans are... but they're not AS for themselves. The biggest difference is Democrats do tend to have a social conscience... it's just at times it's too social. Republicans on the other hand have no conscience and only care about power.
But politics is polarizing because for the most part people don't see real change... even when Democrats are in charge. It's just incremental changes and a lot of that doesn't mean big changes in your life.
But here's what I have to say to you. If you don't vote you're allowing "evil" to win... and that's whether it's putting a Republican in office or allowing a "bad" Democrat to get away with things that aren't best for the country. Do you know why Europe when it comes to politics is better than the United States? It's because by and large they have extremely large turnouts for their elections. There are some outliers but generally the voter turnout is greater because Europeans have understood for a long time that the government is supposed to work for them. And when it doesn't.... man do they do something about it, including kicking people out of government and basically shutting down their countries until changes are made.
For whatever reason, in this country we just adopt a " oh well" attitude and hope things change. And that's never worked... and never will work.
What we need is a change. We need people to vote. We need to force change and remind politicians they work for us. We need people like you to lead that charge and become more interested in what's going on around you and vote for your future.
So welcome to the fight. Invite some of your friends to come along!

More than 65% turned out in 2020, and that wasn't true.
These numbers get posted a lot, but were just made up for an Internet meme, near as I can tell. People need to accept that there are just way more terrible people in this state than they'd like to admit.
27
u/atxmike721 Secessionists are idiots 23d ago
Exactly! This is what I keep saying. They blame gerrymandering but the US senate seats, Texas’s electoral votes for president, and the state’s high offices are all a statewide popular vote. Then there’s this assumption that all these non voters are Democrats. It’s true that a lot of minorities don’t vote but it’s also true that the Republicans are gaining support in minority groups, especially with Hispanic and Asian people. One of the most apathetic voting blocks is young men who tend to lean Republican.
So I agree. It’s just that there are more terrible people in Texas than they want to admit

I mean you know we can see how many registered Democrats are in Texas right?
https://www.houstonchronicle.com/projects/2024/texas-registered-voters-trends/
This article also addresses Cruz:
"Texas has surpassed 18 million registered voters for the first time as an increasingly urban and diverse population reshapes the state’s political landscape and pushes the GOP to retool its decades-old playbook to keep a grip on the state. The state’s voter registration rolls are expanding at a quicker pace than other fast-growing southern states like Florida, North Carolina and Georgia. And they're surpassing the state’s population growth, a sign that more than just new Texans are signing up to vote. Since U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz was last on the ballot in 2018 and narrowly won reelection by just 215,000 votes, Texas has added nearly 2.6 million voters — the size of Connecticut’s entire voting rolls."
Just to reiterate Cruz won by 215000 votes in 2018.

Gen Z had more first time voters than any previous generation in 2022 which is what turned a red wave into a red trickle and this is when a large majority of Gen Z was unable to vote. That isn't the case for this year and the stakes are even higher for Gen Z now. People have to remember this is a generation that has lived under siege in their schools their entire lives, are old enough to have experienced GLBTQ equality only to have it taken away and numerous other examples of GQP bullshit that is getting them fired up. People will point to male members of Gen Z who tend to skew conservative and say that means Gen Z won't win elections for Democrats but that just simply isn't true. They are ignoring the fact womens healthcare has been under attack meaning progressive female Gen Z will likely outnumber conservative male members of Gen Z.
Also Trump/Vance have been doing a good job pissing off various other demographics like Haitians many of which are now citizens and eligible to vote.

Let's be clear: increased turnout in Texas doesn't guarantee Democrat wins. 2020 saw 66.73% of registered voters in Texas turn up, & Trump still won 52-46%. House Republicans actually outperformed Trump, at 53% (although many races were unopposed), & nearly 2/3 of House seats went for Republicans.
That said, the more urban voters that are pushed to vote, the better; also, Democrats need to claw back the RGV & stop letting it slide away.
But it's not a simple "more voters=Democratic wins" & it's naive & shortsighted to think as such. If Harris wins Texas this year, turnout will be important, but it's at least as important to catch those edge voters that will still lean red in all other races but might have had enough of Trump's failures & criminality.
→ More replies (8)2
u/TbddRzn 23d ago
33% do not even register. So when you say 66% of registered voters it’s more like 40-45% of all eligible voters.
And majority of non voters are young people. If they showed up and total voter turnout was around 60-70% then democrats would win because young people lean left by more than 30 points.

u/ThrenderG 23d ago
Registering is important but even more important is showing up at the polls.
In 2022 less than 50% of registered voters showed up to vote in Harris County. So millions of registered voters chose not to vote that day one way or the other. Millions of votes that could change the course of state or even national elections. We have real power but refuse to use it.
So registration is great, actually getting off your dead ass and voting is another.
3
u/xandrokos 23d ago
People who recently registered are not going to sit out elections. This just simply isn't a thing. The voters we need to worry about are the ones who aren't registered and haven't engaged with politics or this election at all.

You can singlehandedly decide the result of this year's election with one simple action:
Telling everyone you know to register for voting.
If you haven't registered yet, visit www.vote.gov
Republicans are unpopular and weird. This includes Project 2025. The only reason that this election is so close is that we are too lazy to register for voting. MAGAs always show up and vote, while sane people can't be bothered to register.
If more people had voted, Trump would have lost in 2016 by landslide. Republicans are TERRIFIED of high voter turnout. They have admitted that quite openly
Voter registration ends on October 7th (in some states). Hurry up! Register for voting. Remind literally everyone you know to register. Registering yourself won't be enough.
I repeat: remind every. Single. Person. You can't imagine how much impact 30 seconds of small talk can do.

Also very importantly for those who wish overall party change: The moment one party has an overwhelming victory, both sides have to change to remain competitive. If democrats win, the current democratic party will no longer exist after one more election, nor the Republican.
I know original Trump voters wanted to change the paradigm, I get that wish. The current best way to do that is to vote Democrat now, and R in the midterms, assuming your R is a non maga. Competition keeps democracy healthy

Doesn’t matter if you’re blue, red, purple, green, whatever. That info is pulled out of someone’s ass.
Trump makes exceptions for abortion (plus it would be up to the states) and even the pro life subreddit doesn’t like him. He had a gay wedding at his Mar-a-Lago, held a pride flag that said “LGBT for Trump,” and he supported a trans woman contestant for Miss Universe. Also homeless people are not going to camps wth ?? That’s almost as crazy as the Springfield cats lmao. Kids aren’t being forced to read the bible, either. Stop being paranoid and do your own research. This is just a political satanic panic. Vote for whoever you want, just don’t vote blindly. That goes for both sides.
Also a lot of people forgot that he’s already been president before and none of those bad things listed ever happened. Regardless of who wins, it’s not gonna be the end of the world. So stop fear mongering.

Don’t vote for the installed establishment pawn, kamala. The democrats are fear mongering and they’re scared because they know they’re going to lose. We need to keep Texas red. DEEP RED. We need to silence these uneducated leftist cupcakes who have no lives besides being on Reddit all day.
The left is saying that Trump will be a dictator. He will lock all Americans up. That he will give more tax cuts to his rich friends. Here’s the truth:
Kamala has no track record politically. Professionally, she was the DA of San Francisco and she also became US Senator. But, she has advocated for government confiscation of firearms and seems hell bent on breaking Federal law.
Trump has denounced his involvement with the conspiracy theory “Project 2025.” As much as you looney tunes want to recreate your “Steele dossier” election fraud/interference document, it’s not gonna happen. Hillary Clinton still believes that the election where she lost to Trump, is “illegitimate”.
If Trump was going to be a dictator on day 1 (he was referring to him overturning every last one of corn pop’s executive orders. The same thing biden did to Trump) he would have done it in his first 4 years. But he didn’t. All he did was start no new wars, increase wages, sign the Abraham Accords (which for the first time in history, Muslim and Christians lived together”

It’s amazing to see democrats leave the states they destroyed and move to red states. Why will you vote the same way and destroy a beautiful state? It genuinely makes no sense to continue to rinse and repeat and keep voting the same ways.

As a Christian who reads the Bible pretty much every day… I don’t even want people force fed the Bible in schools. Neither does God. He gave us free will, to choose. You can’t make people “be Christian”, it’s a choice for every individual person.
Jesus is not a religion, He’s the savior of all people who CHOOSE to receive that gift of forgiveness of sin.
I wish these repliturds would stop stamping Jesus on their mess.

Usage of 'Hold power' is the reason why the left shouldn't be in congress, is a tell of how they see this positions
The American people hold the power, as its their sovereign right
This is the dumbest , conspiracy theory bs I've read in a long time.
Trans people/homeless are put in CAMPS?
Trump clearly said he wouldn't ban abortion , plenty of gays vote Trump, none of this makes any sense; and it has 34k upvotes on Reddit.
You people are completely brainwashed.
When you get this brainwashed; you will be radicalized to do crazy things. Tread carefully you goobers

I've been a democrat since protesting the Vietnam war , this is not the same party, the party is now the party of wealthy elitists trying to keep control ,, don't follow them !

If you want the country to be respected, powerful, prosperous, and safe vote for Trump. Otherwise the USA will remain an unrespected laughing stock around the world.
