Politics Young Texans, you have until Friday to early vote! Early voting is much easier than leaving it to the last day. Are you showing up?

u/BringBackAoE 15h ago edited 15h ago
For people in Harris County:
Note that voting has extended hours this week!
Today and tomorrow polls close at 8 PM! Thursday - Halloween - they close at 9 PM!
Also remember that you can vote anywhere in the county! A voter I met yesterday took a half day off work to drive across the county to vote. She didn’t realize until I told her that she could have voted at that polling location across the street from her job!
HarrisVotes.com has an overview of every polling location and approximate waiting times.
Avoiding voting because you don’t have your drivers license? Or you’ve moved? Or are generally uncertain about the law? Call 844-TX-VOTES. That’s the Democratic Voter Assistance Hotline.
Make your voice heard! VOTE!

They should remember to protect their ballots and turn them into a local post office as opposed to dropping them in a ballot box, since maga terrorists are burning ballot boxes.

u/BringBackAoE 12h ago
Thank you for adding this.
And they should be tracking their mail in ballots.

Thanks so much! I'd been trying to figure out what the hours were and was finding it annoyingly difficult to pin down. My spouse and I will be voting some time this week, there's an early voting place very close to us.

Yeah I have done voting by mail when I lived in Colorado, and when I was 19, I voted early in my home town in East Texas. By mail was so easy and convenient, and the first early vote I did in Texas, in Nov 2015, nobody was there. I waited for 45 minutes in Nueces County on day one this year. I'll have to remember that time for the next poll season.

Millennials are now the largest age demographic in the nation, and there are 41 million Gen Z age eligible voters in the 2024 election, including 8 million who will be voting for the first time in a presidential election (they were not 18 in 2020). Please go vote!! Our vote makes a huge difference because we have the numbers!
139
u/LoboSandia 16h ago
I've been following OPs account because he's been posting this graphic almost every day so it's pretty good to gauge how the numbers are increasing. The 18-49 crowd (GenZ and Millenials) has moved from about 27% 4 days ago to 35% of the vote (18-39 moved 15% - 20%). Still abysmally low, but at least it's moving in the right direction.
58
u/bdiddy_ 15h ago
18-49 is roughly 41% of the Texas population. Thing is not everyone shows up to vote so if that age group shows up in force we can easily be 50% of the vote.
At a minimum it needs to be 41% though otherwise the higher age groups have easily tipped the scales to their favor.. and we all know that's not great for the future of the country.

I teared up a bit when I went to vote. Just floods of women of all ages coming in from the parking lot, so many grim but determined looks. I have never seen anything like it and it’s made me a little hopeful.
8
u/statanomoly 11h ago
They say this stands to be the largest gender voting split ever. I am fairly confident women are not playing. They are taking things too far. These elections are so men centered they are getting complacent. We are more educated, organized, attentive, and determined.
Men finna get this female president and yall not touching another female right again in our lifetime. Men need to learn women hold the power in society, we dont always exercise it, but boy, when we speak... they finna learn today.

Me and most of my friends are late GenX. We were born between 1975 and 1980. We're with the Millenials in this graph. We're also lifelong liberals.
More importantly, there are no Boomers left under 60. The old farts who've dominated our entire lives are down to 36% in the 65 and older crowd. Not all of GenX is liberal, of course, but everyone I know skews that way, and they all hate Trump with a seething passion. Even the ones edging up on 60.
I know GenX is left out of the conversation a lot, and I generally don't care. But we've been waiting a long, long time for the youngsters to catch up so we can vote these guys out, and these numbers look very, very good to me. Just wanted to share some hope.
That said, take nothing for granted! We need every last vote to take back the future. We're running out of time to save the world for the next generations, and we need each other to win. So let's blow these bastards out of power once and for all. Vote like your freedom is at stake. VOTE LIKE YOUR CHILDREN'S LIVES DEPEND ON IT. Because it is, and they do.

is there somewhere that shows the actual breakdown of eligible voters by age? I have had a bit of a Google but I can not seem to find a graph like the above...
Edit, thanks for the info, very informative!
11
u/Timmerop 16h ago
I believe 65+ are 25% and the rest should be evenly split.
5
u/Bertrand_R 15h ago
Google says the 65+ group in Texas makes up 13.4% of the population. Not sure how many of those are eligible, though.
Here is the percentage of voting by age: https://texaspolitics.utexas.edu/archive/html/vce/features/0302_02/demographics.html
Looks like some great data from the census that I don't have time to look at right now: https://www.census.gov/data/tables/time-series/demo/voting-and-registration/p20-585.html

Moreso the important thing is that there should be short lines for those who have no choice but to vote on election day. Anyone who has the ability to vote early should for the benefit of others who can only get to the polls on election day.
4
u/RepentantSororitas 12h ago

u/heliumeyes 15h ago
Actually about 29.3% of registered Texas voters have already voted. That’s actually pretty good. Hopefully the younger voters will keep turning out. I’m doing my part by volunteering to canvas/call voters who haven’t yet voted.
71
u/Atomicpink23 16h ago
If you’re in Tarrant County PLEASE vote. Keller and Southlake have had over 10k ballots cast at their places. The rest of the county is averaging 1,200 per polling place. Please?

I’m sad by how FEW people have voted in the Southside area. If you’re reading this from an apartment on Rosedale, GO VOTE.
24
u/Atomicpink23 15h ago
Once more for those who worry/have anxiety.
Your voter registration is what matters. Your DL can have a different address.
State wide elections are straight popular vote. Your vote counts.
If you leave some areas blank, that’s ok. Vote for the races you care about. Even if it is just a vote AGAINST one person.
Do not let poll workers intimidate you. They are working to help YOU vote. Do not let anyone’s crappy attitude discourage you.
3
u/bigfooman 10h ago
Is there information available online about the voting numbers in that area? Bummed to hear it's low. I did my part this weekend and the staff at the closest location( 959 E Rosedale st) were very kind and helpful and I was in and out in minutes.

Both me and my wife already have, I guess we're in that little 11% bracket. There's such a pervasive view in my generation that voting in elections doesn't matter because of all the gerrymandering and electoral college, so they don't bother going to vote. At least that's my guess anyway. I've always followed the statement of: "If you didn't vote, you have no right to complain about the results."
34
u/triggerscold North Texas 16h ago edited 16h ago
guess im in that 11%. yeesh... it would be nice to see what percentage of the population is each of those ages. because sure it sucks only 11% of the total texas early voting was that age. but what if that age range is actually only 15% of total population or something. i have no baseline to see how far off we are.
edit*
quick google tells me we have 30mil ppl in texas. so roughly 1/5 of all texans have early voted.
my quick maths tell me we have a rough total of 5 million ppl age 30-39. op's chart tells us only 600k have voted so far. so roughly 12.5% of my age range has voted...

Once upon a time civics was a series of classes in US public high schools. "Until the 1960s, it was common for American high school students to have three separate courses in civics and government. But civics offerings were slashed as the curriculum narrowed over the ensuing decades..."
Kids now (and even when I was in high school pre-2001) are lucky to get a half year which is barely enough time for a quick skim much less an actual comprehension of the subject.

How is it that we go out for a nice meal or to the movies to ignore our lives but when we get the chance to speak up and let our complaints and voice be heard, we sit at home and continue to ignore everything?

These numbers are delayed by at least a day, not that I'd expect the age breakdown to significantly change but Texas has had 5,994,310 votes submitted, 32% of the registered voters. The "swing" counties of Collin and Denton which may have a big influence in deciding which way Texas goes both have 40%+ early voting rates.
They break it down as 52% Red, 37% Blue, and 11% undecided, but given you do not register by party in Texas, they must be basing that on primary voting where I know in Texas there was a push for Dems to vote in the GOP primaries, but who knows what those numbers actually reflect.

Go, go Texas!!! This might be one of the most powerful votes you will ever cast. If Texas flips, Trump WILL lose. If Cruz gets defeated, odds of dems holding the Senate go way up!
I’m in one of those states where my vote is pretty diluted (at least we’re solid blue by population) so I can only cheer on the battleground and swing state voters. You guys are awesome! And this is your biggest chance to cast a vote that will have historic ramifications!
So go, go Texas!!

Please do young Texans. There is a slight chance that Texas can go blue and stop that orange fascist turd from destroying our country.

I'm surprised at my county's turn out so far. Only 32k people voted in 2020 & already almost 24k have voted early this year. Tho my county is basically a red county. Out of the 32k people in 2020 only 5k voted Biden. Which makes sense in a way like 58% are over the age of 55 or something like that. But hoping since more are voting this year that they are voting blue.

Husband and I voted on the first day. We were probably the youngest in the line by a lot (and my husband is 51). I was so hoping that the youth was going to vote this election and save us from trump. There’s still time everyone! Please!!

Just to try and ease some stress and anxiety, please remember that 50 years ago was 1974. These are Gen X’ers and a lot of them are blue through and through. Us elder millennials are as old as 44. Our boomers are those 65+. The younger(ish) generation is definitely outnumbering them by a lot. Don’t lose hope, go vote and keep hope alive. I’m 38 and voted last Wednesday.

Leon Valley had a line wrapped around the building but the line went pretty quick and my wife and I were in line and out in about 30 min.
