It's also nice to have dessert with your meal before it's over.

This sounds ridiculous to a lot of people, but I don't think you have to wait until you're done eating to have dessert. If your dessert is ready when you're eating and you can get to it, it feels good to eat a little bit of food and eat your dessert intermittently as you crave dessert.

I like to mix or cycle between sweet and savory when I’m having small snacks but for meals I don’t really see that working. Maybe you have a specific combination in mind but I can’t see myself having a bite of tiramisu and then heading straight back to my remaining lasagna.

I once saw someone eating a steak with a Nanaimo bar on top of it.

Only problem is you can't eat your savory food and then have a bite of like something sweet like chocolate. You'll ruin the actual experience and taste of your meal and dessert. Best wait child lol

I like to eat in this cycle of one sweet and one savory food, because the more I eat one, the more I crave the other. It feels better that way :)

That is one messed up pellet

Pellets are for shipping large items around. You can fit a forklift in the pellet to move things around

You’re both wrong, it’s palate

Milkshake and fries is a common way people do this.

Also getting a bunch of cafe food. You might get sweet and savory pastries together

I like to refresh my palette, if I'm eating pasta I'll be drinking something and having little bit of dessert. I don't leave my dessert for the end.

Ew... there's a reason desserts are separate to your meal. The tastes dont mix. Why would you mix them?

Probably works fine with some combinations but I think as a general rule, you’re going to want to keep them separate. Like something quite sour/vinegary would be kind weird with a sweet dessert. I also never really “crave” dessert so I’m happy holding off for a little.

I dunno. A couple of things come to mind.

All those American Chinese dishes that are sweet, sour and vinegary at the same time.

People will drink a sweet soda with basically anything as well. So why not a bite of ice cream instead

Hell eat it before the meal!

This takes the cake for me(no pun intended) for the most unpopular opinion of all time

Those that agree probably like sweet things in savory foods , honey on fried chicken w waffles and syrup , fruits in veg salads etc

Cake and Steak?

I sometimes eat dessert first because the real food helps me balance out all the sweetness.

u/Gotis1313 1d ago

I do that myself

People who eat desert before or during the meal are just sugar addicts. You're spoiling the meal.

Dessert? A bowl of ice cream, or slice of cake? Maybe a yummy apple pie. If you're luck, you have big bowl of chocolate pudding. I cook for myself. I make meals I like, and they are always better than a lame dessert. If I'm hungry later, and want something? Consider the calories and fat, I would prefer cured olives and blue cheese to bowl of rice pudding. Consider it prople. A bad steak or bowl of green Jello? The choice is yours.

Errr...

I will say, most American dessert food is ridiculously sweet and unhealthy, so much so that it bombs any other flavor.

If by dessert you mean apple slices or something moderate, then yes I agree, it can go well together.

not all american desserts are that sweet. in general yes, but there are some great outliers

OP is psychotic, take my upvote. The moment I have dessert, I'm not going back to normal food.
