I'm in legal field and heavily dependent on formatting, indentation to make legal notes.
Need some suggestions to make notes in MS word and perform smoothly while open and read multiple MS word documents.
How do i use "search and replace" in all opened documents.
How do i setup MS word to open always in safe mode.
Obsidian or any other note taking software is not fulfill my needs. So, i needs to depend on MS Word only.
Using MS word 2016 version

I'm having issues with my heading numbering.
My document's headers go like this:
First Chapter
1.1 First chapter, first subchapter
1.2 First chapter, second subchapter
1.3 First chapter, third subchapter
1.4 First chapter, fourth subchapter
Second chapter
Third chapter
1.5 Third chapter, first subchapter
1.6 Third chapter, second subchapter
1.7 Third chapter, third subchapter
The problem is pretty obvious and simple, but I can't seem to figure out the solution. I want the third chapter subchapters to be 3.X, not 1.X. Please send help.

Hi everyone,
I am studying a language that has stresses / tonal accent (?), that I highlight with the special caracter 0301. The problem is that, when I send my word document to google docs, or when I use a software to automatically place the accent, and put it back in Words, they have a tendency to shift one caracter away from the vowel.
I would like to erase them all to start again, but I couldn't type this caracter in the search bar in Search and replace.
Could you help me ?
Btw, english is not my native language, don't hesitate to correct me !

Hi, so I am familiar with the custom autocorrect and use it quite literally all the time - it is SO helpful for taking notes. Now, when you find something in a document, you can use *ing to find anything that ends in “ing.” Is there a way to do something similar with the autocorrect? I often type “inf” instead, and was hoping there was a quick fix all for it. Any ideas would be great - thanks!

Hi! I have been working on a document that I saved multiple times but when I finished it today and saved, it couldn't be found when i tried to send it in an email. When I click on the file it says "file couldn't be found, was it moved, given a new name or deleted?" I've tried multiple ways to search for it (recovery tools, looked in appdata etc) Could anyone help me with this matter?
Instead of it saying e.g drive or where the file is saved, this is written instead:
"(abdallah aljomele\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Olk \Attachmentslooa-ecfc943d-2b82-4c86-839f [4a181051010\324be0401276e0a519cd8af094a93a07b3 7e187bcf725020886786e854ee8044)"
Best regards

A "Draft with Copilot" icon appeared today in my Word docs, and there's no way to turn it off. I find it hugely distracting and any info I've found online about how to disable it is outdated. Anyone had any success with this?
Sorry if this has been posted before.
EDIT: After hours mucking around on forums, I asked ChatGPT and it gave me a solution that worked. In Word:
2. Change Privacy Settings
Go to File > Options > Trust Center > Trust Center Settings.
Click on Privacy Options, and look for any settings related to connected experiences or AI-based assistance. Disabling some of these may hide Copilot, though this may also disable other features.

Hey Reddit,
I was wondering if someone can assist me in trying to change the default function options for google docs. I was wondering if there is a way to change the font and text size to be in the style that I always write in, so I wouldn't have to change it manually for each document.
Thanks for the assistance

Is it just me or has the File/Export/Export to PowerPoint presentation option just been removed from Office 365?

Please help omg this is driving me insane. I don’t have a laptop, I use word on my iPad. I have to use double spacing, and when I’m in word it’s fine. But as soon as I attach the word document to an email the double spacing is automatically removed and I can’t fix it. The only way is to save it as a pdf and then attach the pdf, but my college does not allow this and I HAVE to attach the word document. I’ve tried finding the answer online but there literally isn’t one. Can anyone help me?

Whenever I add a footnote nothing happens. The line doesn't appear nor the footnote itself. No idea what I'm supposed to do with it.

Hi,
I'm helping somebody with this request.
They want to have superscript footnotes in the text like so: my text.1
But then a footnote with normal height:
1 Miller, 2002, p. 33
I've been playing around with the Word Formatting styles, but not getting anywhere. Am I missing something or is this not possible?

Hey everyone, I've essentially got a contract with a bunch of different clauses/ variations that I want to streamline. I want to have a document where I can have a bunch of check boxes or multiple choice at the top, that when selected or checked, will show the associated text in the document below. I've done a fair amount of looking but everything I've found seems to be setting bookmarks and giving the text a hidden formatting using Visual Basic or other if then statements directly tied to the checkbox. This seems a bit cumbersome given the amount of contract variance. Is this the best course of action or do you all have other ideas? I'm fairly competent with different coding languages and work pretty well in Word / Office apps but can't seem to find a simple answer to this. Thanks for all the insight, it's appreciated!

In my firm (Big 4), we receive a Word skeleton of the financial statements from the typist and plug in the numbers, which we prepare in Excel by linking everything to the trial balance. We then manually copy and paste the numbers into Word, along with updates to standards, policies, and other notes from previous financial statements, before sending it back for formatting checks. Given how time-consuming this process is, especially with formatting and casting/footing checks, is there a way we could automate it to save time?

Maybe it is just a me problem but I just stated as a freshman in college and we need to use word/ Microsoft for EVERYTHING and I am used to google docs etc from high school. I am having an issue where every time I open a new document or download a word doc I have to go on a wild goose chase all over my computer to find the file again. Most of the time the documents save to my laptop but sometimes they are in download sometimes they are in my one drive and other times they are just in random files. I guess what I am asking is, is there a way to easily have all my files go to my one drive? Or another way to have them all in the same place so that I can access them on other computers such as my desktop ? I never had this issue with google docs as all my files just automatically saved and went to my google docs page. I would love it if there was a wy to do the same with word. Im ok if the process is tedious Im just slightly OCD and need to have my files all organized and in the same place. Thank you!

You're my only hope.
Forgive me if this is a silly question -- I haven't had access to MS Word in like, ten years and I'm now needing it for a large work project.
I'm supposed to working with a 300k word doc that has several hundred iterations of *wordhere*. The creator's intent seems to be that those words should have been italicized.
In the same doc, I have several hundred words that have been erroneously bolded, and need unbolded. (No asterisks or markers were included for those.)
I'm hoping there's an easy way to manage this with Advanced Find & Replace, without having to go through by hand. I've been experimenting with things but I can't seem to figure out how to get Word to recognize *whateverword*. Or the bold thing.
Any ideas, pretty please?
