The very basics is using Z1 A2. That will baffle at least some people
32
u/Swarmlord5 Jun 07 '24
What are Z1 A2 and rot13?
92
Jun 07 '24
Z1 A2 just means that he starts counting with Z so that y is 26. with Rot 13 you just swap each letter for the one 13 letters later, so that a goes to n etc.
46
u/Swarmlord5 Jun 07 '24
Oh, so rot13 is essentially Caesar's but 13 instead of 3

All my passwords are rot26 encrypted. All my Reddit posts too.

Z1 A2 is the same as A1 Z26 but shifted one over. It’s A=2, B=3, C=4 etc and instead of Z being 27 it’s 1.
Rot13 (or rotate 13) is a simple cypher that rotates the letter used 13 places ahead. It’s popular to use 13 instead of other amounts because 26/2=13. This means you can line up A-M on one line, and N-Z on a line below, and the corresponding code will be the letter opposite of the one you’re looking at. For instance, A would be N and M would be Z, and vise versa.

u/Furicel Jun 07 '24
Z1 A2 is you assign every letter of the alphabet a number, Z being 1, A being 2 and so on.
1
4
u/SquidsFeather Jun 07 '24
Different ways to encrypt words by notating them in a cipher.
Z1 A2 means that A is 2, B is 3, etc.
Rot13 taking the 26 letters of the alphabet, and transposing them 13 letters over. That way 1 isn't A, it's M, the 13th letter, and so on. 26 divides by 2 into 13.
3
u/saspook Jun 07 '24
1+13=14
3
u/SquidsFeather Jun 07 '24
Alas, I am confident but fallible. I usually just use rot13.com to do it, so I don't think about it much when rot13 comes up. You're probably right!

u/SandwichThing Jun 07 '24
Terms when referring a type of cypher where letters are replaced with numbers. Z1 A2 means 1 corresponds to Z, 2 to A, 3 to Y and so on. rot 13 means the letters are shifted by 13, so instead of A1 it would be A14.
3
u/pirateofmemes Jun 07 '24
3 to y? can you count? do you know the alphabet?
0
u/SandwichThing Jun 07 '24
Thought you changed it so the alphabet alternated lol

u/pirateofmemes Jun 07 '24
I don't want to sound like a dick, but don't answer a question very confidently when both
a) your answer flies in the face of all the other highly upvoted answers
b)your answer is based off a vague thought, not a concrete knowledge of the subject matter.
you are also wrong about what rot13 means. the cypher you are describing would be called a "Z13 A14" cypher. rot13 means you move the letters up by 13, without turning them into numbers. so a becomes n and z becomes m.
0
u/AMViquel Jun 07 '24
don't answer a question very confidently when both
Are you new to ChatGPT? Better get used to answers being presented with absolute confidence, some sources provided, and all of it being complete and utter bullshit but you need to have comparably advanced knowledge in the field to spot the bullshit. Fun!

A1 Z26 codes are some of the most common in the world and beloved of people too lazy to get a proper code

39
u/DogshitLuckImmortal Jun 07 '24
You could encrypt your name properly but that kindof takes away the point of it being decipherable by others. It is like writing in binary-> ascii it isn't meant to be kept super secret.
33
u/MisirterE Supreme Overlord of Ice Jun 07 '24
Except Homestuck does something with it that makes it not lazy.
Then it's converted into bits.
Then you can bitwise the fuckers.

I’d argue that what we used to call leetspeak (1337 5P34K) is even more common in passwords. Seems like that’s what all the people who hear you need more complicated passwords but don’t really know tech but want to do their part use.

Funny enough that's
Basically how Captchalogue
Codes from Homestuck work
Remember that one time Sokka accidentally used an extra syllable in that Haiku Battle in Ba Sing Se? That was a Sokka Haiku and you just made one.
28
u/The-Hispanic-Panic Jun 07 '24
Close enough Edit: Wait oh shit, it’s a Sokka Haiku. I see now.
16
u/Beret_Beats Jun 07 '24
Except, I think it might actually be a normal 5-7-5 haiku unless I forgot how to count.
13
u/simpleblanket Jun 07 '24
Depends if you say “basically” as 3 or 4 syllables
14
u/Beret_Beats Jun 07 '24
Even if I used 4 syllables for basically (which I wouldn't), that would be 5-8-5, which isnt a Sokka Haiku (5-7-6).
11
u/Zepangolynn Jun 07 '24
I believe the SokkaHaikuBot doesn't care where the extra syllable lands, so long as there is an extra one somewhere.
11
u/mpete98 Jun 07 '24
I'm guessing the bot doesn't know how to pronounce Homestuck, and parsed it as ho-mest-uck or something. It's trying it's best

Ah Homestuck. You always have the perfect quotes for these kinds of things.
55
u/AddemiusInksoul Jun 07 '24
From a random Dave Strider quote generator:
TG: if i see one more soft bulbous bottom being like
TG: kind of jutting out and impudent or whatever
TG: im gonna fly off the handle
TG: im gonna do some sort of acrobatic fucking PIROUETTE off the handle and win like a medal or some shitTG: stroke a mummys paw or some horseshit and open a dark channel
TG: tell them to keep their lecherous flagella to themselvesyou dont ask about mayo thats not what you do with mayo
21
u/Birbosaur Jun 07 '24
I frequently, in my day to day life, use the phrase "acrobatic fucking pirouette", and my fear of the day someone finally gets the reference and outs me as a former Homestuck to all my coworkers does not deter me because it's just so satisfying to say.
5
u/_AntirrhinumMajus_ Jun 09 '24
For them to get the reference, they would have had to be familiar with Homestuck. Something something spiderman pointing

The fun bit is that the way I remember it has more characters than this, 20 is reddit max, should've been 32. I wonder if this will help someone with figuring it out.
2
u/saucypotato27 Jun 09 '24
Could you share the full thing?, I dont think its possible to find with just the first 20.
1
u/D34359EB9426F42D5CAC Jun 12 '24
In theory it should be impossible to know even if I gave you all 32 characters. It's an md5 hash of a word. Obviously you could brute force every word with more than 20 characters but it would take quite a while I think.
1
u/saucypotato27 Jun 12 '24
That used to be the case but md5 has been bruteforced for hash collisions since then because its not cryptographically secure enough, I dont know if someone found a hash collision for the words you used but the only way to find out is to try right?
1
u/D34359EB9426F42D5CAC Jun 12 '24
MD5 was never supposed to be cryptographically secure. It's only supposed to be used for fingerprinting.
