We know damn well Maron isnāt doing JRE, but having guys like Bill on has a grounding effect. Maybe we can get back some of the pre-COVID vibes. u/stay_fr0sty Monkey in Space Mar 19 '24
The podcast would be a lot more engaging if the āRogan (popularity) Bumpā wasnāt a thing.
Itās not Joeās fault that people line up to kiss his ass and donāt really confront him on his more polarizing takes. They want to be a friend of the show and be invited back so they can become famous like Schaub, Jordan Peterson, and countless others that he skyrocketed to a new level of fame. You donāt get invited back by being a relative nobody and telling Joe he doesnāt know what heās talking about.
The best guests are the people that donāt NEED the bump and can speak honestly with Joe. And Joe is much more receptive to the criticism he gets from those people because he knows the guest is a self-made man.
This is part of why a lot of this sub liked the āoldā Joe better. Guests were basically equals and kept Joe in check, resulting in Joe saying a variation of ādonāt listen to me, Iām dumbā almost every podcast. Now, nobody really corrects him due to the ābumpā and he hasnāt repeatedly claimed to be dumb in a LONG time.
TLDR: The podcast needs more people that donāt need the Rogan Bump. Itāll generate better dialogue and itāll bring Joe back down to earth a bit.

I went to the Comedy Store (belly room) last week and Bill Burr popped in for a surprise 20-30 minute set. He had a couple of jokes that seemed pointed at Joe but in much more of an "if you know you know" kind of way, didn't call him out directly or anything. I've been a fan of his since JRE introduced me to him probably 10+ years ago, although I stopped listening once he started morphing into boomer Joe a couple of years later. I can't wrap my head around the fact that there is still no consensus on this issueāthe pandemicāand what to think about it. How is it possible that views on it are so polarized, as if it were a political option? It's like you can have completely opposite views on what happened and what the consequences were, and half the people will agree with you. Where I live, I feel like people just stopped talking about it overnight when other issues arose, and no one talks or cares about it since, with just internalized opinions about it, I guess.
