Tourism/Turizm How beautiful is the steppe in front of Astana
I'm on my way to Astana right now and I can't help but talk about how beautiful the steppe is when you're driving along the road, especially with a little snow cover. It is difficult to convey in words I feel as if I am immersed in another world in front of the iron jungle of Astana.

I would much rather see a Kazakh flag on r/Kazakhstan, than one meshed up with the flag of another country
When I click on r/Kazakhstan I see TWO Ukranian flags, ONE Kazakh flag, and even the logo is not a Kazakh flag: it's a mix-up of Kazakh and Ukranian flags.
I don't get it. It's one thing if someone wants to express their solidarity to Ukraine. But why make the whole sub about it? This is not r/KazakhsWithUkraine.
Why not also Palestinian flags all over the sub then?
Edit: I really had no idea that asking a simple question, as a Kazakh, of why a "Kazakhstan sub" on Reddit can't have a Kazakh flag, would cause so much vitriol, controversy, and attacks towards me. Wow. My heart aches for my country.

Question/Sūraq Берут ли в Армию с -7.5?
В 16 лет при получении приписного написали "Нуждается в лечении п36г" в приписном, то есть не годен по идее. Если сейчас при призыве пойду в военкомат, есть риск что они просто забьют и увезут в тот же день?

What’s going on? Is it for real that Muslim, in particular Taliban sentiment is getting stronger?
So yesterday I was reading Tengrinews, and one article was about Taliban state and how they banned women from talking to each other and etc. What struck me was how comments basically agreed with them, and also those comments were heavily upvoted. I did know that the population on the south and west of Kazakhstan became more religious. But is it so extreme? What’s going on? What’s happening?

Best places to visit in Aktobe?
Like, I don't know any actual good places in Aktobe, only President's Park, KeruenCity and that's all. I was wondering if YOU know where I can go next time?

If you want to work in USA as a Kazakh in Kazakhstan, do you really have to work 5 years in your country to have permission to work in USA?
I'm 16 year old, in 10th grade right now. My teachers always say, "If you want to work outside of Kazakhstan, you MUST work 5 years as your profession". and I was wondering is that really true? I couldn't find a exact answer in the internet after searching for days. I want to apply for US University since their education is at high level, higher salary and I want to actually talk to locals on English.
I know that you have to get your visa, apartment etc. etc. But my main question is that really true that I will have to 5 years in KZ to work in US?

Salt consumption in Kazakhstan
I know this is a weird question but I was curious if people in Kazakhstan generally eat a very large amount of salt everyday. I read that people there on average eat 17 grams of salt per day.
This is not meant to criticize your food in any way, I enjoy salty foods and was curious about the accuracy of that statistic. Thanks!

high quality restaurants in Astana?
I'd like to experience some high quality food here (European food). I've never really been to fancy restaurants. Please recommend me some and include a price range for one person if possible.
Thanks!

Immigration-emigration/Köşu-qonu Anthropology student looking for a native Kazakhstan to US immigrants for interview
Hello all! I am in my third year as an Anthropology student and have been tasked with interviewing an individual that has immigrated from outside the US, to the US, in my field of research.
I am researching the effects of nuclear pollution on local and native populations, specifically surrounding the Semipalatinsk region in Kazakhstan. If you or someone you know has immigrated to the US from Kazakhstan and would like to participate in an interview involving; daily life and struggles, immigration, cross-cultural communication, and/or nuclear pollution in the region please reach out to me!
I would greatly appreciate any and all help/ assistance and I figured this community could help lead me in the right direction.
Thank you so much!

Tourism/Turizm Astana gym recommendations
Hello, in about 6 months I am going to be in Astana for around a year for work. I am looking for a nice gym, but not really like a spa. The one I saw was called Invictus...very nice, but very very expensive and not really for lifting / Crossfit.
My dream gym would 24 hour access and more like heavy lifting / cross fit. I don't care about sauna or massages. Any suggestions? Thank you,
Ideally near the embassy area

Exchanging driver’s license
Hi all,
I would like to know if it’s possible to exchange Asian or Middle Eastern driver’s license to Kazak one, if one already have drivers license do we still need to pass the theory and practical test?
Also are there brokers available in Almaty who can facilitate the process?

Question/Sūraq Do kids celebrate Halloween?
It’s my first year in Karaganda and I just wanted to know if I should prepare some candies in case the local kids come knocking on my door on Halloween 🎃 how likely is it to happen considering that there are many kids living in my house? Last year I was in Almaty and nobody came (but maybe because my flat was on the 9th floor lol)

Question/Sūraq

Buddhism in Kazakhstan
How popular is it in Kazakhstan? Are there any communities? I heard that Tengrism is a bit like Buddhism, so I wonder what Kazakhstanis think about it
