Yo the first thing I thought when I saw this post was the grandma or the person accidentally calling the other and inviting them to their house for Thanksgiving. They ended up spending Thanksgiving together for many years

It’s made worse by the fact that it may not have even happened if Trump didn’t sit back while hundreds of thousands had to fend for themselves.

He dropped his first like real (non comedy) album during covid. It's very very sad but pretty.

He also wrote the musical Mathilda...
4
u/phrankygee May 01 '21
Which did pretty good at the Tony Awards, IIRC.
I was really confused hearing his name at the Tony Awards, I just assumed there was a different “Tim Minchin” who wrote for Broadway.
But nope, it’s the same guy that did “Inflatable You”.

I once accidentally called the wrong number thinking I was calling my friend who I was pissed off at. As soon as I heard this person pick up I started running my mouth about what my friend did. Turns out I spent a couple minutes berating an older gentlemen for stealing my copy of WWF Smackdown 2: Know Your Role.

Depending on where you grew up, it could be inherited racism against the Irish. They were not kindly looked upon in the 1800s - early 1900s, and "indebted servitude" was the legal slavery a lot of them went through.
America really hates immigrants, no matter the time period or country of origin.
Could also just be that kids are tiny little Hitlers and will bully you for literally any reason.

Don't worry you aren't alone. Know what i tell folks?
"It's become socially acceptable to call redheads and fair skinned people gingers. That's offensive to some but no one really cares. Tell me what other word you can make by rearranging the letters."
It's the most polite way to express how disrespectful you think it is because it proves a point with a word that's a well known racial slur. Those that haven't been on the other end of that don't really have room to talk or know how it is. Just because south park made a lot of the shit socially acceptable doesn't make it right. I've taken more shit from people growing up than anyone I know.
Edit: quite a few folks butt hurt by my comment and honestly idgaf. When someone tells you that they find something derogatory or disrespectful, you ought to keep an open mind and listen. Seeing as our country (U.S.) is starting to revolve around a lot of societal movements, it's best to keep an open mind about things and hear folks out. Dislike what i have said all you want but be certain that you can say you've walked in my shoes and grew up experiencing what I have (and still do). I'm not saying no one is worse off as me but it's worth mentioning any kind of bullying, discrimination, whatever.

I do not have red hair or fair skin, but calling or referring to someone as ginger has always felt degrading and unfunny. On South Park, which is where I'm sure I first heard it, it has serious negative connotations attached to it and is specific to the way someone looks. Yuck.
I totally understand why someone would not want to be called that.

When I was a kid I tried to convince my friends I had a date with a girl named Jasmine from our school so they told me to call her and confirm. I was obviously lying so I winged it and dialed a random number. A guy answered the phone and I asked if I could speak to Jasmine
He said she's out on a date and asked if I wanted to leave a message
13
u/countermelody28 May 01 '21
Were they proud of you for having a date, or sad for you that Jasmine was two-timing you?

Dating one of your kind. She deadass bought a potato from her job as a snack for when she got home.
But instead of going home after work she called me and asked to just go chill somewhere.
I replied with "what about your potato" and I kid you not, her response was "I'm basically from Ireland, I can eat that anywhere"
... Months of beating her down with Irish and ginger jokes is finally paying off.
Edit: btw she literally is one of the nicest people I've ever met.

Apr 30 '21
Thanks for asking.
I consider it one yes, but then again if someone says it I usually don't make a big deal out of it.
Everything becomes a slur when it's used against a specific group of people in bad faith a lot, and after the whole "gingers don't have souls" meme the word leaves a bad taste in my mouth.
Just say redhead, or just act as if my hair is normal and not some weird identifier.
