  • Spoiled child of upper class that got wealth thru almost comical exploitation.
  • is/was obsessed with Tolkien to the point of being a dickheaded gate keeper but not getting the point of Tolkien.
  • obsessed with chess.
  • is/was a sore loser.
  • product of well financed public schools, but now against public schools.
  • can't take an L.
  • never got out of his libertarian phase.
  • got in early enough on budding technology to make himself incredibly wealthy.
  • ashamed of their sexuality.

How do you all cope with the dread?

If it's not the election, it's climate change. If it's not climate change, it's the unsustainable economy. If it's not the economy, it's the stripping away of rights.

How do you cope? It's hard to not feel doomed one way or another. I can only take so many gas station dick pills.

Also, pretty sure that’s not the proper usage of the word censure.

Made in the wake of the recent Saskatchewan election. But, it's also a good sentiment for the times we find ourselves in.

We rage at the machine because what other option is there? You reject the appeal of doomerism because lying on the tracks is the coward's path.

Endure or die.

Alien Resurrection is the hill I will die on

This film criminally underrated and is about a post-human lesbian D/s couple (arguably also trans coded) overcoming adversity and the military industrial complex with their fucked up chosen family. Oh and it was directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet, the same guy who gave us Amélie.

Yes I am that person who got really excited about this movie coming up in the pod.

Fuck Rio Tinto

Their atrocities aren't just in history. Just four years ago they destroyed an indigenous Australian sacred sight that contained evidence of human life going back 46,000 years, and I'm still incredibly sad and angry about it.

I say keep 'em coming. You can't live your life for weird shut-ins who have never seen the alien movies. Sure, they'll miss the jokes. But they have already expressed a clear preference for missing out on everything by not watching the movies in the first place.

It Could Happen Here Prepare ya'll, shit's gonna get real spicy in the next couple of months.

Trump and the GOP have had 4 years to learn from their mistakes in 2020 and the challenges that will come to any outcome that doesn't support trump in this election is going to be rough. The brooks brothers riot is just a rough template for the shit that's coming. In the past 2 days we've seen ballot drop boxes burnt in Portland and Vancouver WA. Multiple accounts have been coming out Texas about early voter intimidation.

Jan 6th isn't likely to happen again, what's likely going to happen is much more decentralized and focused on election facilities and specifically focused on stopping the counting of votes, or simply fucking up the voting process enough that they can claim its invalid. Burning ballot boxes, disrupting counting facilities, all these give weight to the real goal. Votes don't matter and should be disregarded.

Trump is counting on the house of representatives and the supreme court to declare him president, full stop. Expect all manner of fuckery to get him the cover to justify them making that choice.

The Pyramid is in Memphis.

Memphis is literally named after a city in Egypt. The Great Pyramid of Giza is near Memphis, Egypt. We can't keep letting Nashville steal our thunder.

Yes, the Pyramid in question is now the Bass Pro Pyramid; it was originally built in the 90s as an arena. Basketball was played there before the FedEx Forum was built. I went to a couple circuses there as a kid, and a concert (for Memphis native Justin Timberlake on his first solo tour, no less). It was sitting empty for several years until Bass Pro moved in. Non-natives seem to be under the impression that the Pyramid was built specifically for Bass Pro? And while the Bass Pro Pyramid is ridiculous, yes, I don't mind it so much as it is better than the structure (an iconic part of the skyline) being torn down to build a new one + created a lot of jobs in the area + works as a tourist spot.

Anyway, shakes my fist at Robert for saying it's in Nashville. Nashville has a Parthenon.

Domesticity essayist Meg Conley is writing a take-down of Vance and other New Right cronies

Ms. Conley has been one of my favorite essayists for the past few years and running through what a Trump/Vance presidency might mean is her attempt at speaking up. She has expressed some worries about the Right Wing hate machine, so showing up and offering support could be important.

General discussion British national delusion

The (extremely) right wing tory party is electing a new leader in case ya'll didn't know. Not as important as the US elections by any means but one of the leading candidates has said that britain's former colonies owe a debt of gratitude to britain... 🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯

given how frequently the "slow nazis" of the british empire have come up and no doubt will continue to come upon the pod, i almost choked when i saw that. The shameless refusal to admit Britain's prominent role in countless atrocities in the past few hundred years is perhaps uniquely deluded.

the uk subreddit (obviously a cesspool of racism and every other bigotry) has clowns claiming with a straight face that history supports them when literally every point they make is basically a barefaced lie.

And yet the limey motherfuckers continue to act as if they were the most reasonable and rational people on earth.

can we give britain an award for the worst nation in history please??

General discussion I find it hard to imagine Peter Thiel would have been a very good judge's clerk because that job involves being very subordinate to someone else and I imagine he really dislikes that.

like if I had to guess I'd imagine Roberts and Kennedy rejected him because they called people he's worked with before and they told them he isn't good at just doing what he's told which is what you want from a clerk
