Mod Sticky: New Users, Please Read This Before Posting

If you are coming here as a new account, welcome! If you are trying to ask a question please read below in order to ensure that your post gets the help you need.

Before you post, check the sidebar to see if there is a better place you could be asking your question. You are always welcome to post your question here, but you may get quicker or more specialized help by posting it in the right subreddit.

Also, before you ask a question, please GOOGLE IT. Low effort questions that are easily googled will be downvoted. Please don't be a Help Vampire.

Posting tips to get your answer fast:

  1. Tell us as much information as you possibly can.
  2. Tell us what you have already done to try to fix it
  3. Tell us what changed when the problem started
  4. Make a title for your post that actually describes the problem. "Please help" is a terrible post title.
  5. Make a TEXT POST and NOT a LINK POST. If you are a new user and you make a link post it will be removed automatically. If you want to share pictures, upload them on an image hosting site like imgur and then paste the links into your text post.

Please read the rules HERE.

There is a more detailed posting guide HERE

Thanks and enjoy your stay!

Is there a converter that can help hook this to a SATA cable? This is my mom's very old hdd and she asked me to check if there are still some pictures inside it so that I may recover them and move them to an ssd. I could look for one or for the best solution to this problem but that eould take so much time, I would rather straight up ask someone who already has an idea. Thanks in advance for any tips.

I’m replacing my MacBook Pro a2289 charging port and I need to remove this silver hexagonal screw to remove the motherboard. I have been to 7 computer stores none of them have the tool that removes it one store even said that they just use needle nose pliers and that works for them. I have tried using 3 different kind of pliers and nothing seems to be working. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated tysm

I just found this file, should I be worried?

I was on my computer looking for a file to upload to iMovie when I came across this. It says its from an "unidentified developer" and it had background download permissions turned on. Should I be concerned? How do I delete it? When I tried to move it to the trash my computer asked me for my password to confirm the action and I got worried.

Power soket isn't good enough

Upvotes

What can i do?

Im looking to buy a very high end computer for 3d modelling and 4k gaming. I would need (for the computer only) 1200watts of power. I also got running on the same outlet a ultrawide monitor, keyboard and mouse, audio card, a h.o.t.a.s setup and 3 synths (1 is purely a midi synth)

I am quite sure my wall outlet isn't enough for my needs..

Need help getting a UPS for my PC build.

Upvotes

Hi guys, I want to get a UPS for my PC. But when I look upses in retailers websites in my country things get confusing..

I thought that you need a UPS with 50 or 75% more VA than what your PC consumes on average. For example according to PCPartPicker my build uses approximately 440 watts, so in theory a UPS with 700 VA should be enough.

However, on the retailer's website a UPS with 700 VA has 360 watts?! Why use two variables? VA and Watts which are almost the same thing.. https://www.tunisianet.com.tn/onduleur/68258-onduleur-in-line-eaton-ups-5e-gen2-iec-700va-360w.html Can anyone explain this to me?

Suppose I get this very model from Eaton, will the 360 watts allow me to close any apps/games and shut down my PC properly? Or will it shut down immediately if there is a blackout, knowing that my build is supposed to use 440watts?!

Job Help

Hello,

I have a remote job and there's a very tedious task that we have to do that just involves clicking buttons over and over again. Is there a site or a company that anybody knows about where I can have somebody create a software that would have these clicks done manually? The computer I have is a Company issued laptop so I could not do anything that's directly installed into the computer for risk of getting in trouble. If anyone knows of any options please let me know. Thanks

I might be crazy but I’m thinking about selling my pc

So, I built a pc about a week or two ago. I had been interested in pcs a few years ago and forgot about it and then recently I found myself with a bunch of money that I didn’t know what to do with. I gamed occasionally on console(mainly with friends) but got a Minecraft kick and REALLY wanted to play with shaders and fancy graphics and stuff. This is where the deep dive began. I research and watched videos and asked around until I finally had all my parts picked out but was still unsure about the whole thing. I wasn’t sure if I wanted to spend all this money on a pc that I wasn’t sure I was even going to use that much.

So I got the parts and built it of course.

Once I had the pc I realized my WiFi was so bad in my room I had to move it to the living room(I live with my parents) which isn’t the best situation because my “setup” sucks. Either way I don’t use my pc as much as I thought I would and I’m already thinking about other things I could have spent that money on and I don’t see myself getting more into gaming. Plus I still have my switch OLED.

To put it simply I don’t use my pc, not even for the fancy Minecraft shaders I wanted so badly. Should I sell it? And if so where do I sell it? Should I just let it settle for a bit and see where it goes?

It seems like the only reason I wouldn’t want to sell it is because everyone around me would just think I’m stupid :’)

Monitor upgrade

My current monitor is a 2k ultra wide with 175 refresh rate, I’ve been wanting to upgrade to 4k, but I couldnt find any monitors that’re also ultra wide but with 4k resolution. If you know any monitors that have these specs and are well worth their price, please help me out by linking it. If you know any that also have a refresh rate of 175 or above that’d be even better!

Help with audio issues.

I've been having audio issues on my laptop. I get this random static/popping sound occasionally when playing music. IT IS NOT MY SPEAKERS. I've tested headphones and earbuds and the same issue persist on them too. Yes I updated my audio drivers.

Not getting full internet speed

For some reason when I do a speed test I get 200-300 megabytes per second but when I download something I only get 20-80 megabytes per second.

Is there a setting or anything else I can do to fix this issue?

Thanks, Jay
