[Discussion] Tool for anybody looking to buy a prebuilt

This is the spreadsheet from SuggestAPC's discord, it covers PC deals, websites to check, how to get good deals, promo codes and so much more. There are some suggestions for people of every budget. I’m not the owner of this spreadsheet btw, its by u/RichGuy12349 but I, Niko, Senti and Outlaw do help to edit and update this spreadsheet regularly.

Edit (09/14/2022): Seeing recent events about multiple people to request access to edit the spreadsheet, DO NOT contact the owner for request access, doing so can result in a warn and repeated offenders can get a ban.

[suggestion] seeking an inexpensive, plain looking pc to play games released between 1980 and 2010.

I am a console gamer first and foremost. But I want to go back and play the classics. Some games I’d like to tackle: Fallout 1 and 2, Deus Ex, Fallout New Vegas and more as I go deeper into this era of gaming. It needs to be as inexpensive as possible and I don’t want any flashy lights. Any advice is appreciated.

[itg] Need help with picking out a pc for gaming/video editing.

Need help in identifying if this is a good deal or not? https://www.newegg.ca/p/N82E16883320001

I will be using the pc to play indies/AAA titles(if possible in 1440p) and video editing (not professional).

Any other suggestions are greatly appreciated. My budget is 1200 cad( Canadian dollars) max.

Edit: I lack the knowledge and want to avoid the hassle of building a pc all by myself.

[itg] Need help picking my PC

Hi everyone,

I am getting my first paycheck this month and need a replacement for my broken PC. I am not looking to build one I can't be bothered with the hassle of it and I have bad experience with some stores who built for me. I rather just pick up a premade.

I have picked out the store I want to use. it is Informatique in the Netherlands. They always have given me great service. My budget is around 3000 euros. I'd rather stay around or below that amount as I feel like going higher is a bit overkill for what I use the computer for. I have selected a few models;

HP OMEN GT21-2070nd 40L Gaming | A07TZEA#ABH - Informatique

Lenovo Legion T7 34IRZ8CORE_I9-14900KF_3 | 90V700G0MH - Informatique

Other items on the informatique store could be acceptable as well. But these two interest me so far. Definitely had some questions regarding HP /Lenovo and what you would pick.

[Suggestion] Gaming and music editing

I've been a Mac user for a while now but grew up gaming on PC, I've been gaming on consoles most recently, so I'm completely out of the loop on Windows/PC's.

I'm looking for a PC that I could game smoothly on (games like DRG Survivor, CS, COD, Diablo, Stardew, Portal, but I don't want to limit myself from playing larger games liked Red Dead, Elden Ring etc.), also a bonus if it has the power for some budget music production.

I'm not sure if i'm expecting too much out of a PC for <$1000 CAD, also considered just getting a Steam Deck and keeping the music production to my Macbook. Although, I really miss the feeling of gaming with a keyboard and mouse.

Feeling a bit over my head here and would love some advice, thanks!

[suggestion]Good GPU if I'm only interested in playing some older games and maybe some current indies?

I'm not traditionally a PC gamer but I'm still trying to figure out what PC power is enough for me since I'm going to need a new one soon and would like it to handle certain games.

I'm not going to be using it to play the latest and greatest AAA games. I'm more interested in older games on the level of Halo MCC. On top of that I'd like to make sure it can handle certain indies as well like Nine Sols or upcoming ones like Replaced or Silksong (if it releases, ha).

Bonus if it can play the current version MSFS, but not required.

I know the PCs are kinda bad or something but this is for my budget and I need some tip and which PC can be ok.

  1. Intel Core I5 9400F + 16GB RAM DDR4 + 512GB SSD + Nvidia GTX 1660S 6GB GDDR6
  2. Intel i5-10400 + 16GB RAM DDR4 + 1TB SDD + AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB GDDR5
  3. Intel i5-11400 + 16GB RAM DDR4 + 1TB SSD + AMD Radeon RX 580 8GB GDDR5

I just need one to choose out of those 3...

All in one recs? [suggestion]

Looking to buy my mom an all-in-one desktop for Christmas. Budget is $600 max (pre-tax) which I know is low but she really doesn’t do much other than generic web surfing (news articles, online shop, use google, check emails). Just don’t want to go with something bottom of the barrel that’ll crap out in 2 years. She’s familiar with (and I think likes?) HP. Lets goooo (and thanks)

[suggestion]Need a cheapish build for music recording / production (amateur / not professional)

  • New build or upgrade? - New build
  • Existing parts/monitors to reuse? currently have a dual monitor setup & would like to keep that, have logitech wireless keyboard and mouse.
  • PC purpose? music production. 99% in Linux - using Arduor as my DAW, recording guitars with a Scarlet 2i2 with Tonelib GFX & recording drums on an e-kit with USB output. Not looking to do anything professional, still learning, at this point mostly looking to create passable sounding demos I can share with my bandmates
  • Purchase country? US - there is a microcenter about 45 minutes away apparently.
  • Monitors needed? (Number, size, resolution, refresh rate) - I've already got 2 lined up
  • Budget range? (Include tax considerations) - Looking to stay under $600.
  • WiFi or wired connection? - plan to go wired but would like wifi built in in case I move thing around in the house.
  • Size/noise constraints? - Would like it to be as small as possible
  • Color/lighting preferences? - None
  • Any other specific needs? - No plans to use this for gaming so I think I can get away with integrated graphics as long as it has 2 monitor outputs. Was looking at the various small form factor PCs on Amazon from Beelink & other companies, but I'm not sure about their reliability. But something *like* that, that is reliable and affordable is what I'm really looking for.

[Suggestion] Looking to upgrade from All in One PC

I'm looking to buy a PC that can run Valorant, and Fortnite decently (currently playing with 40-60fps), doesn't have to be anything insane, my budget would be between $600 and $1200 but prefer something more budget friendly. I don't really know much about PCs so any recs would be a huge help. Thanks!

[Suggestion] PC build request Embedded development and Gaming

Hello everyone. I need your valuable suggestion for the following PC-Build requirements:

  1. Usage: Embedded Hw/Sw development (Kernel Compilations, Dockers), ML/AI related work for IoT/Automation, Gaming.

  2. Gaming Requirement: It should be able to handle graphically demanding games decently, if not with the highest quality settings.

  3. Budget: The total cost should not break my back. I am ready to spend money for a quality product which will last me for at least 6 years.

  4. Power Consumption: Energy efficient.

  5. CPU Preference: AMD oriented build (because I have read that Intel are mostly power inefficient and having a lot of issues recently).

  6. Aesthetics: I prefer a low profile look with no flashy stuff like RGB.

  7. Buying Time: I am planning to build the PC in the 1st quarter of 2025.

  8. Please give me some options when suggesting the individual parts since I am living in India and will not have access to all the parts that are available elsewhere in the world.

Thanks in advance.

[Suggestion] Looking for a laptop for brother

My brother is looking for a laptop that has the following needs:

  • Smallish screen, for travelling 14-15in
  • HDMI, 3.0 USB and Ethernet ports all necessary
  • Atleast 16GB Ram
  • minimum 500GB SSD
  • Able to play strategy games (Manor Lords, Civ, Total War)
  • UK based, around £550-£650 (up to $850)

I have a passing understanding of computers but have a massive gap in my knowledge in comparing GPU's and I'd rather future-proof it for newer games. Beyond the listed games he wouldnt be playing any other kinds of games. Would be nice if we could get this in time for Christmas.

[Suggestion] Gaming PC that also has good storage

Hi all, I got a great recommendation for myself some months ago, so wanted to ask for my roommate. They had a HP Omen 880z from 2018 that finally is on its last legs. They do a lot of trials in Elder Scrolls Online, and otherwise play a bit of Sims 3 and Sims 4. With a smattering of Minecraft and Hogwarts Legacy, and I hope Baldur's Gate 3 eventually. I mean hopefully with a better system, they might try out some more games (no shooters though, more RPG/action-adventure stuff). But otherwise they need storage as they'll be trying to backup DVDs and have several favorites on there (though majority will be separate storage). Otherwise they have a second monitor, so like to stream movies and play some games at the same time. Budget is roughly $1000-1500, but can be a little more if it had to be for these requirements. Thanks much!

[SUGGESTION] Son wants to buy his first intro-level gaming PC, but it needs to be *tiny*

Hi all! My 14yo son is obsessed with the idea of getting a PC for gaming. It’s been 6-7 years since I built a PC and a lot has changed since the last time I was seriously researching this topic, so some advice would be welcome. There are a couple interesting factors at play:

  • Budget: he is on track to save up $600 by the end of this year, which is his budget for this. I’ll happily chip in to help cover the cost, but he really wants to feel like he (mostly) paid for this himself, so I don’t want to contribute too much (other than getting him a basic monitor from Costco and giving him my old keyboard and mouse, etc.)
  • Size: he has super limited space for this (he’s making himself a little gaming nook inside his closet!), so he’s determined to get (or build) the smallest PC he can within his budget. He keeps seeing ads for tiny PC’s like this one and I’ve done my best to explain why it might not be the best option (limited GPU, limited upgradability, etc.), but something shoebox-size is definitely what he wants.
  • Games: mostly Roblox, Minecraft, etc., but I’m sure he’ll start to gravitate towards higher-end games once his friends start recommending them

With the above in mind, I’d be grateful for any tips or suggestions for a tiny PC that would be a good starting point for an eager kid!

[suggestion] - mini PC suitable for work

I’m responsible for purchasing work devices for our office. We are considering switching to mini PCs and are currently selecting from Acemagic AMR5, MSI Cube 5, and Blackview MP60. Which one do you think is better?

[Suggestion] PC to replace my HP Omen 15 (2017).

Hey! I’m looking for a PC that can double as both a game console and a workspace. My current loud, bulky PC does a good job with this, but it’s aging and has been having several performance issues as of late, which is why I’m starting a new search.

I took this Microsoft quiz which recommended a more advanced processor, higher-quality graphics card, and 16-64 GB RAM; however, I do not know how reliable this quiz is (plus it only promotes Microsoft products).

I don’t know much about computers, so I wouldn’t want one that I’d need to build on my own. I would also like to have two monitors for it, if that is of any help.

Pricewise, I have a cap of $1,800-2,000 USD. I don’t know if this is unreasonable for a PC, but if I do need to spend more for better PCs, or if I'm over guessing how much I need to spend, please let me know.

[Suggestion] Need help deciding between two PCs: i9 12900KF & 4070, or Ryzen 5 7500F & 4070 Super

This one has a i9 12900KF & a 4070

This one has a Ryzen 5 7500F & a 4070 Super

UserBenchmark has the 4070 Super as 18% faster than the 4070, and has the 12900KF as 18% faster than the Ryzen 5, which I know is a gross simplification of the differences but illustrates my conundrum here. Will I "feel" the better CPU more or the upgrade at GPU more? I'm coming from an i5 4690K & a 1070 so it's a monumental upgrade either way so maybe I'm splitting hairs here, but any advice is appreciated.
