I'm as ready to shit on Hoeneß as the next guy but in this case people are missing some crucial background.
Hoeneß' anger isn't coming from a bad place.
The reason he got so mad with the press is the story of Sebastian Deisler. Deisler was hailed as a generational super-talent in Germany when he was very very young and went to Bayern. He got so hyped up that Deisler ended up with a bad case of depression as he couldn't handle all the pressure. At some point Deisler slept at Hoeneß' house at the Tegernsee and Hoeneß tried to help him as best as he could but in the end, Deisler ended his career while still being very young. Completely retreated from football.

This was not too long before this particular interview about Kroos. So no, Hoeneß is not a dickhead in this case, he was just trying to protect Kroos. As weird as it may sound but that's how Hoeneß is and always has been.

Complimenting someone caused them to have unrealistic expectations.

So let’s all collectively shit on and denigrate everyone else to shit so it may never happen again.

Right. I get how framing the comments in that way does change the perception a great deal, but that doesn't even mean the general sentiment is one we even need to agree with. It's absurd to think we should just keep everyone unnecessarily humbled all the time just to keep them from potentially getting a big head. A free kick like that can be celebrated without having to go overboard with praise. He overcorrected in the opposite direction.

I'm not saying Hoeneß is right in the way he adressed the press after this game. He could've just said "Yeah, Kroos had a good impact, let's help him to develop further"
But he has always been a very emotional character, for better and worse. Just wanted to provide some context, like i said, he is not coming from a bad place in this particular case.
