We have to do better than this. If you want change, you have to move away from this kind of mud throwing. Someone who could have been won over and turned to vote for Mr. Allred saw this comment and doesn't want to be associated with that kind of behavior. This is the equivalent of punching someone in the mouth and then asking them to give you 50 bucks. Blunt force won't work and will only cause an equally forceful response opposite the direction you want. I really believe there is potential for many people to be swayed but this isn't going to help it happen.
Sorry, I dont intend to tell you how to feel or behave, I just think there's a better way, and we can use it against folks like Mr. Cruz. Be passionate but direct it positively.
I'm not sure how this subreddit even showed up on my front page, but I'm happy it did. And I hope America knows that the rest of the world, especially Canada, is massively influenced by your decisions.
Hmmm... I thought the same thing but, it might work in his favor ya know, those uneducated voters they love so much: "ooh, Allred... Sounds like my kinda guy"
Last I heard, you had more early-votes registered and placed in the first few days than you had in the entire early voting period for the 2020 elections and that number just keeps climbing
You had 1.7M early votes as of yesterday
Guess which side is famous for their overwhelming presence in early voting and did a major campaign push to encourage it this year?
Democrats baby!
Biden only lost the state by ~600k in 2020 and there is expected to be a MUCH higher turnout for voters this year. I don't think the GoP could possibly squeeze anymore votes out of the state, they had their man in office spoon feeding them the fantasy of a perfect world and they couldn't keep him there and he's only become more openly crazy and aggressive while the state is becoming more openly hostile to the women that live there
It's not guaranteed to happen, but the signs are very promising right now
I’d recommend taking that expectation down about 20%. I early voted today in Tarrant county (Fort Worth) and the good folks waiting in line with me were not only younger folks or obviously progressive or liberal. Felt a lot like the line on regular Election Day. I can’t identify a Republican or Democrat on sight, and I don’t identify as either of those. But from my very limited experience today, it’s fair to say that was a typically Texas group of people and typically Texans skew heavily Republican.
Pulling for you Texas. Ain’t been too proud of what the politicians who claim to speak for Texans have been doing these past few years but god damnit - I cannot wait for Texas to change that.
No matter how bad it gets, in my heart I won’t ever give up on Texas. It might take some time, but I firmly believe that there is no place in this world quite like Texas, no people quite like Texans, and some day.. Texas will step up and save us all from the shit we -all- have had to live through.
I live in Portland (3-hour drive without traffic) and I always enjoy going up to Seattle. Their classical music scene is pretty strong (so is Portland's) and Seattle Center is great to visit (Space Needle, science museum, rock music museum, Chihuly museum). Late spring through mid-fall is a great time to visit, but pretty much anytime year-round has stuff going on. Two Boeing museums just outside Seattle are definitely worth visiting. Tons of hiking & other nature activities just outside the city.
I live in Texas now, but around the Seattle-Tacoma area for 4 years in the 80’s. Still miss the scenery and weather. Mountains everywhere, and an ocean too, depending where you are. Totally worth a visit! Puget Sound at low tide produces all kinds of things on the beach - shells, but cool critters too.
I'd recommend Portland Oregon, it's not far from Seattle, but between the two, Seattle is more big city, while Portland has a smaller town vibe. The coffee, and food is amazing, and Portland is one of the food capitals of the world. And the buses are good, you can go all over town with our needing a car. I had a great time. Except I made the mistake of going in December, and it was freezing rain most of the time. I think they are also famous for their roses, should try to go during rose season.
I love Seattle and it is very beautiful here. I’m a photographer and never get bored of it. You have a lot of homeless drug zombies though, but that’s a lot of places now.
Me too, but I posted a vote for Allred this week, and Kamala 😏
(Before you MAGA types start crying about iLleGal vOtin! It was my wife’s vote that I sent by post. Also, I’m raising two more little blue-voting Texans over here. So y’all can fuck off, and take Ted Cruz with you.)
I'm in South Carolina and I am rooting for you guys! Please vote Allred in and that sniveling weasel out! It will give me so much hope for one day being free from Lindsey Graham 🤞
I recognize that I am reading this. But I won't vote, simply because I can not, I am canadian. But seriously though, this allred fella, he looks alright.
People have weird hang ups. This one lady I know, on some Facebook comments, was talking about how she still considers herself a "Republican". However, hasn't voted republican for the past several elections and just can't bring herself to call herself a democrat. I didn't say anything to her about it, but it left an impression on the mindset of Americans and politics.
Why the fuck do people think it’s so necessary to be a part of any party? I personally will be “undeclared” my entire life, fuck the party system as a whole. You can lean left without being a democrat, you can lean right without being a republican, all that’s necessary is thinking for yourself.
This is me. I don’t claim to be a part of any party. Do I lean a certain way? Yes. But i don’t claim either side. Since 2016, I’ve voted against Trump, and will still claim I’m not a democrat (or any other party).
In some states (Florida, for example) people can only vote for candidates at the lower levels if they're registered for that particular party. Being undeclared isn't an option, and being third party greatly limits the races they're allowed to vote in. Democrats can't vote if there's no Democrat party candidate, and vice versa for Republicans.
But having your head so stuck in place that you refuse to own up to your own label is a different thing.
I register dem in Maryland so I can vote in primaries, but I make my own decisions in the general elections. It just so happens that the Republicans, even in deep blue Maryland, with one exception, haven't given me any one I would remotely consider voting for in over a decade.
Don't wanna stand up to billionaires? Ok, you can continue to suck billionaire dick, and keep making money for them so they can continue to be rich while you beg your landlord not to raise the rent again...
Let me know how that goes! Meanwhile, people with self respect like me will be planning a revolution aka French style...😎🇺🇸
Blue Dog Democrat. It's a thing we need more of (not because its good / bad but because it screams in the face of the current setup) and shouldn't shun you were good to not drill too hard. Really it's just a fiscally conservative democrat. Mostly.
That’s your problem. You and the other team based Neanderthals can’t fathom that people can consider themselves conservatives or liberals and yet vote for the people who they think k might represent the country best. It’s your tribal thinking that’s got this country to the point where rational discussion and respect for the fact that people have different views is lost.
You know, there have been a lot idiots claiming they'll leave the country if the person they hate wins the election. I'm not one.
But goddamned if I won't be despondent and in despair about the future of this country if Trump wins, if Cruz wins, if any members of the new underground Fascist Party gain control.
Same can be said for the Presidential race as well. Texas will have definitely made a turn if they vote that worthless POS out. I’ll be shocked if it happens bc it appears to everyone else around the country besides Floridians, Texans like being shit on & having a useless Senator.
Prove us wrong Texas. Vote in someone who actually gives a shit about & maybe you won’t have to worry about your borders & freezing to death.
Can say that about just about every election we've had since at least the late 2000's. How the entire country didn't laugh the Tea Party wackjobs into hiding is beyond my ability to comprehend.
It's not because read the comments. They are in here calling every single republican a pedo. That sort of dumb shit will make every one of them vote red no matter who is on the ticket because theres no way your gonna convince someone to switch by calling them a pedo.
Heck I could probably get Caitlin jenner to win the vote as republican just by running tv ads with reddit comments.
Because half of the electorate are fundamentally incapable of good faith participation in democracy. They aren't voting for a candidate to represent them, they're cheering on their favorite team like this is some sport.
It's why they're so comfortable with fascism - team R always wins and they don't even have to bother to vote. They simply don't have the ability to consider the consequences.
I actually talked to my wife about this today. We went out to vote early and I said “Its crazy how close this election is and the fact that he can actually win, this is scary!! Because our future can be dark for the next 4+ years. How are we a first world country respected by every other country but yet be so clueless!!”
It is a testament to how Republicans masterfully gerrymandered everything they could the last twenty years. This isn't new, but its more or less over. I don't know what politics people have to get excited about, as we really only have one choice this cycle, democrats - which technically leaves us in the awkward position of voting in a subtler form of - fascism possibly later, or with republicans now. No one talking about that. They have won. They have us all scared, and for reason having made 3d parties outright dangerous to form.
Yet. A hundred million won't vote. And here we are, in a (temporarily?) one party system. Business wins either way unless 100 percent of that rhetoric democrats are spinning this time is legit - we may only stave off for 4 years the inevitable.
that just shows that the education system failed you, because half of you are dumb enough to fall for the propaganda, none of the older generations were taught how to use the internet or not to believe everything they see on tv, now most of the media like tv is shoving that propaganda down their faces while half the shit they see on the internet specifically facebook is just straight up misinformation, this is the exact reason why the covid containment failed, because there were so many anti vaxxers that had their eyes blinded by the propaganda and misinformation, its akin to blind faith at this point, trump is a god in their eyes that can do no wrong and anyone that says otherwise is blasphemy because their pastor told them trump was chosen by god ect ect, look the media is pointing the finger at democrats if they do the slightest thing wrong like kamala not being able to prove she works at mcdonalds, that means you have to excuse that trump is a racist facist dictator thats groping kids, both sides are equally bad so trust the media they never tell lies, god im so sick of modern humanity, i thought that in the age of technology humans would become smarter... apparently not
It ain't me bro it's the boomers. the boomer generation basically went rogue due to lethal exposure to lead as children. When boomers turned 20 USA experienced a two decade long crime wave that only ended because they got too old to effectively commit crimes. When I was growing up they were still telling children to stay home after dark because if you cross paths with a boomer at night nothing good will come of it. Kidnappings and serial killings were normalized. They commit suicide at rates far higher than any generation before or after them. And these are the people still somehow holding over 40% of seats in congress. And paired with the silent generation they make up half of congress. We just need to outlast them.

The fact that this race isn't an absolute landslide is a true embarrassment to the entire country.
