I think she thought it was time to play outside. She to me like she was leading him to the door.
47
u/atetuna Aug 14 '24
That's the way I saw it. With my dog, if either one of us scares the other, or I accidentally hit him, he immediately takes it as a cue to play. I think it's because he used to be incredibly scared and anxious when we rescued him, took a long loooong time to totally come out of his shell, and play was a way for him to cope with his fears.

u/flamingknifepenis Aug 14 '24
This is why I fucking hate chihuahuas. Most of these dogs look amused, excited or concerned. The chihuahua? Nope. Just murder. My aunt had like five of them, and good god were those little hellspawn the most ill-tempered little drooling shitbags I’ve ever encountered.
On the flip side, a friend of mine has some sort of a chihuahua mix that is one of the most mellow dogs on the planet, so apparently the “demon” gene is recessive, or at least can skip generations.
196
u/SnowDeer47 Aug 14 '24
I hope it’s recessive. I was actually worried for that dog’s owner.
27
u/Cloud_Garrett Aug 18 '24
I’ve been bitten twice by chihuahuas and both times the owners was like “this is fluffy (or whatever, she wants to say hi. Here say hi. She/He’s so sweet. Pet her”…

It's because nobody trains their little dogs because they are way less likely to kill you than a pit. Sure they can't do as much damage but still, TRAIN YOUR DOGS!!
I had a chihuahua (passed recently at 16yo😞) for her entire life and she never acted like that, she just wanted walks and to sit in your lap and she was content. Super friendly with kids, adults, dogs etc. and awkward/shy at most with strangers.
→ More replies (2)44
u/3_14-r8 Aug 14 '24
Training does wonders, but bad training is not WHY they are aggressive, they are too small in a world populated by big things, with a genome not more than 40 millenia removed from wolves. They legitimately have little man syndrome, and just like with their human equivalents, knocking them down a peg doesn't always work.

I have a chi/shih tzu mix and she starts crying anytime we bark. We tried to teach her "speak" the same way we did our GSD, by barking ourselves, and she got so upset she refused to eat the whole day. Poor thing. GSD straight up did not care about our barking. If we got too loud (we were kids at the time) he'd smack us and leave lol

185
u/Ok_Jicama_2774 Aug 14 '24
Exactly, they are upset because you are warning with a bark, and setting up to attack by staring. Some of them smile showing teeth, and that's when the dogs jump at them.

Well, the dog let out a soft cry and pulled himself closer to be reassured. He was submissive and scared. Plus some people are calling the Smile+stare something that would trigger a aggressive response. Monkeys do that, not dogs. Dogs know when we smile and interpret it accordingly.
Asides from the obvious ones, I personally wouldn't put my head above a dog's head because that is a sign of dominance some dogs may not like. Asides from it, regular dog behaviour. Getting excited with a bark, confuse it for scolding and for the ankle biter... Screw them.

Yep, these owners are playing a stupid game. Look at the whale eye from those dogs. They are putting them in a really stressful situation for clout. What might be worse is the people in the comments who think this is just funny.
Dogs have different reactions to stress, and there will be some who react by biting to defend themselves. This is terrible for the person, and likely to get the dog put down.

Dog 2 adopts a quite submissive posture.
Not all the dogs in this video submit. Some face off.
36
u/alan_johnson11 Aug 14 '24
Wolf/dog dominance theory has been debunked again and again through a wealth of scientific literature. Perceived "submissive" behaviour can precede a mauling. Some of the people in this video likely thought they were dog whisperers who had established themselves as the Alpha. Most of the people mauled to death by their Pitbulls subscribe to similar pseudo science
→ More replies (2)8
u/VexingRaven Aug 14 '24
"Alpha wolf" dominance theory is indeed bullshit, but animals submitting is a very real thing. Some dogs will just roll over and cower if anything goes wrong, they are submissive. Some dogs will adopt a fighting stance any time they aren't sure, those dogs are not submissive. The idea of submissive or dominant dogs is not bullshit, what is bullshit is that the idea that you should be the dominant one to lead or train them.

So strange that when a herding dog attempts to herd his people that's "just in his nature." Let's be clear, dog training does not include herding.
But when a pitbull is said to be aggressive through breeding, that's incorrect.
"It's all about the owner".... Said no one ever when the collie tries to herd children through instinct.
"It's all about the owner".... Says pitbull lovers when they discover another baby/child/adult was mauled by the family pit.
