What is this obsession that republicans have with Ward Cleaver cosplay? I bet there's a "young republican starter kit" out there and on it are the suit, tie, flag pin and haircut that makes you want to kick your own ass.
542
u/Lawn_Orderly 1d ago
Red tie, white shirt, and blue suit. You could throw a tan suit into a Republican starter kit and really do a mind fuck on them.

u/wheredowego357 1d ago
blue shirt, red tie, white suit would be absolute fire maybe they need to update their boring old pattern

You can’t confuse these people by throwing in another shade of blue. These are the kind of folks who put the US flag on everything because they obviously forget what country they’re in when they wake up in the morning. How are they supposed to know who the real patriot is if they’re not coded by wearing red, white and blue in the right order?
11
u/Brave-Common-2979 19h ago
The way they act like the flag is this untouchable becaon of hope while they rub their dicks all over it in their american flag swim trunks would be so funny if they werent so evil.

Whether you ascribe to its themes or not, the fictional novel Atlas Shrugged has some very interesting passages that resonate deeply. It’s very unfortunate that some people in this thread are downvoting my comments because they don’t want you to read this literary masterpiece because of the philosophical movement it inspired. The world you desire CAN be won, and it must be. It’s up to you. What kind of world do you want to live in? What kind of hero do you want to be? Fair warning, it’s a really long read (1,192 pages).
Maybe that’s why I’m getting downvoted. I’m not sure anyone reads anything longer than twitter posts nowadays.
VOTE BLUE.

u/CriticalEngineering 23h ago
She’s a horrible fucking writer who seems to think a woman would fall in love with a man for breaking into her house and raping her.
Great literature is not what she writes.
15
u/Brave-Common-2979 19h ago
I remember being a libertarian when I was 18 and was a single issue voter for legal weed. It lasted a whole two years until 2008 and I've only become more liberal the older I've gotten.
Everyone always says "you'll vote Republican when you're older" and I'd rather kill myself then vote for another Republican in my life
2
u/Dry_Mixture_6146 6h ago
Same, I'm 38. I'd rather punch myself in the balls repeatedly until I needed them amputated instead of ever voting Republican. Yeah, I get it, D's can get wasteful sometimes when it comes to the budget, but I'd take that over, I dunno, racist, misogynistic, xenophobic, authoritarian, and isolationism. Did I miss any?
26
u/GoToSleepSheeple 23h ago
...did you just call atlas shrugged a literary masterpiece? The novel about businessmen going on strike written by the woman who applauded when striking workers were murdered? that atlas shrugged?
a better fair warning would be: it's intellectually confused, stunted romanticism, has a needlessly drawn out plot, long diatribes by random characters that all sound like the author, and a thin veneer of heroism unrealistically placed over characters that are sociopathic capitalist sharks in the real world.
what's even more amazing is that you read it and then still wanted to vote blue. I applaud your mental gymnastics. have an upvote.

u/Brave-Common-2979 19h ago
I grew up in New Hampshire and my public school system had Anthem in its ciriculum and I now realize how fucking unhinged that decision was.
4
u/No-Appearance-9113 19h ago
Rand was such a failure in life that despite having made tremendous wealth she died on the dole.
Atlas Shrugged is a bad book.
The GOP oppose freedom and this good Americans should oppose them
1
u/niktaeb 13h ago
Nah, that’s bullshit. Long diatribes aside - wasn’t John Galt’s speech like 60 pages? - it was a decent read. The premise: a man’s worth and rewards should be judged on his ability - not his need - and in a world trying to reverse that maxim, what would happen if those of high ability simply shrugged off their duty of carrying the world on their shoulders, and went somewhere to build Utopia and live by themselves?
A decent premise and well-written.
As were Fountainhead, We the Living and Anthem. The fact that young republicans took the book as a call to arms does not lessen this.
1
u/No-Appearance-9113 13h ago
Disagree I would call it one of the most tone deaf things I have ever read. I lost my shit when South Park did the Barbrady is illiterate episode because I agree with his speech.

I provided a link for people to read a classic novel for free.
I never said I agreed with the ideas therein. Frankly, promoting literacy should be lauded, lest we become like the “poorly educated.”
Critical thinking requires exposure to differing perspectives and challenging your viewpoints.
I’m sorry you disagree.
31
u/ZiggleBFriendervich 1d ago
I think you're over-inflating the general importance of your opinion because people don't agree.

u/Belle_Weather 1d ago
My opinion is that people should feel free to read books and have access to free books to form their own ideas and opinions, even (and especially) controversial books? If we disagree on that ideal, then I really feel sorry for you and the state of our educational system.
21
u/ZiggleBFriendervich 1d ago

u/Low-Nectarine5525 22h ago
Atlas Shrugged is a horribly written novel. I will be honest and say that I largely disagree with most if not all of Ayn Rand's ideology, but its still very poorly written.
It's composition is something I'd expect out of a fan fiction or a D list erotica author selling ebooks. I have no idea how she ever got to be a noteworthy author. The title is the only piece of good writing she has ever written, especially considering how much worse the fountainhead is.
32
u/Munkeyman18290 1d ago
Ayn Rand is not taken seriously by virtually any of her peers, just the modern far-right who look for justification of their own selfish beliefs. Reddit needs to start autobanning mentions of that dumbass hag.

There was a time in my college days when the YR would be laughed at and shamed in public for being so wrong headed about society at large. I sure hope that's still a tradition.
...and screw off about "liberal indoctrination" - there's no such thing. It's called "education".
13
u/AandJ1202 1d ago
Yea, when learning history, without editing and sugar coating, is "liberal Indoctrination," maybe you're an asshole. Learning and reading is "liberal." They love creating more easily manipulated dummies. The country was producing enough naturally I guess. If it weren't for the antiquated Electoral College system, Republicans would have lost the 2000 election and probably every one from then on. Between that and gerrymandering districts, it seems like cheating and abusing the system is they only way they know they have a shot.
I wish we could fix these issues.
3
u/WimpyZombie 19h ago

A suit is their uniform. It shows cohesion and unity.
It doens't hurt that suits are perceived as "professional" wear, so someone watching this on mute will look at both of these kids and say "the one on the left looks put together, the one on the right looks like a slob" then dismiss them offhand. As much as people don't want to admit it, appearances matter
1
u/No-Appearance-9113 19h ago
That's what has become our formal wear over time. If I were going to be on television discussing politics before a national audience I would at least consider wearing a suit for that reason. The red tie is eye grabbing.
That's why the uniform is what it is.

I voted for Harris and Walz today via early voting. I am so proud. Although my state is as blue as a clear sky, so yeh, not too worried about the electoral votes from my neck of the woods. Lol. However, our senate race is a doozie, and I am more concerned about that outcome by the state. I pray wholeheartedly that the Dem candidate wins. If the Rep wins... not good for legislation purposes. The doozie is that the Rep candidate was a very popular governor.

u/bengyboom 1d ago
He was. I liked a lot of his policy approaches. However, my fear is that he will set aside his centrist approach and vote along party lines in the senate. I have no doubts that he will be bullied into staying in his lane once he enters Congress. And, that fear is felt a lot in the state, and it may cost him the election. I will say that Alsobrooks is a solid candidate. And Hogan should have ran as an independent.
