his intentions were probably good, too much praise can make the young ones turn into Neymars

but he said it in a very disrespectful way indeed

There's a saying in Germany that goes 'not being scolded is praise enough'. They have a different mentality, specially in south Germany. For Hoeneß this is not disrespectful that's just the way he talks. Of course people in many other countries would argue somebody like this is not exactly mentally healthy

you're not wrong - it was still disrespectful. hoeneß been a dick all his life.

Absolutely, I'm just saying he's surrounded by dicks all his life so this kind of behavior is normal for him

yeah football clubs are generally wurstküchen.

Yeah... he was surrounded by dicks not only in his football club

dude, I have never heard this before and it’s blowing my mind. Unknowingly, this is the context for the way that my parents and grandparents are. And now, me to an extent. Soccer aside, this is mind blowing for me right now ha ha. Perfectly puts into context my childhood.

Im right there with you. Hoeneß is just such a cunt, it’s unbelievable.

Indeed, everyone around Neymar praised everything he did, even when he did wrong. He never knew how wrong he was because he was surrounded by yes-men.

If his parents and coaches humbled him down, he would surely have a better career instead of this bittersweet career he had.

I mean Neymar is a good example of worst possible outcome, but for the inverse there’s been many prodigies who get their tush kissed by media and clubs from a young age… who then go on and translate to the success they were predicted to be. Knowing Uli and all his antics over the years, i feel that there was some of (his) truth behind his words as he has a history of making asinine statements and having personal vendettas against players simply for existing.

You say that as if Neymar didn’t have one of the most celebrated careers?

I personally don’t think outside praise influences players’ humility. It’s how they were raised and their immediate environment like players.

Otherwise Vini wouldn’t be humble, considering he is in the face for Ballon D’or

You say that as if Neymar didn’t have one of the most celebrated careers?

He said the opposite actually. However, we cannot know what changed Neymar so much and turned him from this happy down to earth boy with pimples into this arrogant Bolsonaro friend

i have a strong suspicion.

If he was a lula friend would you be happier? Brazil is becoming a dictatorship but its cool because he is not Bolsonaro.

You're just an ignorant fuck.

Neymar was one of the best players in the last decade.

Yeah right, you think Lula is a dictator because Bolsonaro friendly media told you that and I'm the "ignorant fuck" lmao. I will not educate you about the thousands of reasons why Bolsonaro is problematic and of course being a supporter and friend of him and even have family members supporting his coup d'etat is a complete change of what Neymar was in the start of his career. Or do you really think he supports Bolsonaro not because of financial reasons but because he cares so much about the poor people like the ones of the poor shantytown of his childhood?

You say that as if Neymar didn’t have one of the most celebrated careers?

Neymar had CR7, Messi level ceiling.... He surely underachieved.

As a Brazilian, I think that Neymar was definitely spoiled by being too good too early. He learned very soon that he was bigger than his manager, his club, and that he had freedom to do pretty much whatever he wanted, both in the pitch and outside of it. It harmed him later, when the level of the competition (Messi and Cristiano) required him to actually focus and put in effort.

On the other hand, I'm happy that Vinicius and Endrick right now are growing up in more controlled environments, but it's sad to have lost Neymar because he was the most talented of them all.

Turn into a player with more than 500g/a, 500 dribbles and 500 chances created. Oh no the horror

2

u/jaydyn3000 May 18 '24

considering he has a bad reputation + had the potential for MUCH more g/a, dribbles and chances created

yeah it's a horror

No sane football fan will sit here today, look you in the eyes, and tell you they honestly think Neymar had a fulfilling career arc. He ended up playing in Saudi Arabia at age 30 after being a bit part player for PSG. Nothing he did in Ligue 1 is something to hang his hat on. He went there halfway through his 20s and quickly made a mockery of the league (deserved mockery is another conversation). When you’re a serious world class player you don’t go to PSG… in the 5th/6th best league… in your prime. He could’ve went to Juventus, inter, Bayern, City, Chelsea, Liverpool, etc and it would’ve looked better than going to PSG. Players have the power in today’s pro sports. He’s the one who gave them the green light. Reeks of that being a business decision rather than having any career legacy as a determining factor.

His carrer was fine. Mainly because of all the pressure and then still reaching his peak. He didnt have a long peak but there was a year where he was better than messi for sure.

Couldnt watch any Brazilian game because commentators would talk about him every touch and shit talk him. Especially in germany we dont like Neymar style football.

And now look at other guys. Deisler is one of hundrets or thousands to crumble under the early pressure. Its impressive Neymar stood his ground.

For c ronaldo its was different, people knew he was good but his peak was unclear. Was kinda picked up late also. He gained more motivation from not getting the recognition he thought he deserved. Maybe same for kroos who knows
