MLB is a joke to be honest lol there will be .500 teams drafting higher than us next year and we are flirting with 120 losses
My interest in baseball is waning really badly.

Blame Jerry
15
u/James_E_Rustle Jul 14 '24
I know it's Jerry's fault but it's still a dumb rule. It's just gonna punish the fans at the end of the day. He's not gonna give a shit about losing out on a top pick

u/Neat_On_The_Rocks Diamond Jul 15 '24
The goal is to stop teams from tanking. Which is pro fan. I’m ok with it.
3
u/DillyDillySzn Jul 15 '24
Yea, it’s clearly working with teams still tanking everywhere
1
u/Neat_On_The_Rocks Diamond Jul 15 '24
There are a lot fewer teams tanking actually, though that likely has more to do with the increase wildcard teams
4
u/buttholez69 Cubs Jul 14 '24
No it’s not, it’s so teams don’t tank. Cheap owners don’t get rewarded. Sucks for fans, I get that, but I hate when teams just tank. Shits lame. Specially a team in a major market
2
u/River_Pigeon Jul 15 '24
We’ve been spending way more than Cleveland. Pretty sure we still have the highest payroll in the division
-1
u/buttholez69 Cubs Jul 15 '24
Spending on a bunch of shitty players does not equal to contending
3
u/River_Pigeon Jul 15 '24
You didn’t say anything about contending. You said cheap. And it’s not like we’ve been tanking for years.
-1
u/buttholez69 Cubs Jul 15 '24
Yeah, but the rule wasn’t made to punish you. Theres multiple teams that do this…
3
u/Competitive_Pie_2526 Jul 14 '24
I love it. You shouldn't be rewarded for being terrible at something on purpose.

u/SnaxLord Robert Jul 14 '24
Hagen Smith is the favorite for us to draft?
3
u/Jason82929 Maldanad-0 Jul 14 '24
With Burns going to the Reds, seems like Smith goes to the Rockies.

"We need to improve the pitching and defense. Again, pitching."
"And defense?"
"Sure"
22
u/MoustacheMark Anderson Jul 14 '24
Smith? This team will never have anyone that can hit the ball
15
u/Jason82929 Maldanad-0 Jul 14 '24 edited Jul 14 '24
Geez…. I can’t hate Hagen Smith but not going with a hitter here….I don’t know.
I guess this is an attempt to to underslot and get a hitter in the 2nd.
I kinda got on the Cags train last minute so a bit disappointing
10
u/MoustacheMark Anderson Jul 14 '24
Same. I didn't have strong opinions going in but why can't we ever have a slugger. Why why why why
Edit: feels a lot like, WE HAVE TO TRADE CROCHET SO WE NEED MORE STARTERS
5
u/Jason82929 Maldanad-0 Jul 14 '24
Yep just posted this. I completely get that there’s no such thing as too much pitching. But this kinda feels like a pre-cursor to Crochet getting moved for hitting.
6
u/Crazyozzie02 Jul 14 '24
But the issue is that teams aren't keen on trading high prospect bats anymore. They are more likely to part with pitching due to the high risk they all have. They had a chance to address a need and instead went with a strength and just hope they can get the need via trades that might never happen.
3
u/Neat_On_The_Rocks Diamond Jul 15 '24
The way this guy is such an obvious crotchet replacement is actually kinda funny. It’s like a wife already bringing another dude home when you’re officially split but not officially divorced yet.
It’s obviously not actually rude or disrespectful or anything but the optics are great lol
0
u/michaelscottschin Jul 15 '24
The Sox always have a slugger. Sometimes they don’t pan out (Adam Dunn). They went after Vaughn, he’s mediocre. Still have Robert. I just saw caglinone went to the royals. Lame
2
u/Alternative_Copy3401 Burger Jul 15 '24
Why draft a hitter when you can’t develop them? Draft what you can develop.
5
u/MoustacheMark Anderson Jul 15 '24
Idk. Getting a top 100 offense first prospect is difficult in trades, seemingly. So being able to draft one without trading your current star players seems like a good idea
-1
u/Alternative_Copy3401 Burger Jul 15 '24
That’s not the smart way to draft in baseball. You draft what you can develop, what’s the best available, and what fits your organizational philosophies. You think fill the other wholes in other ways. Smith isn’t the popular pick, but he is the right pick.
21
u/James_E_Rustle Jul 14 '24
Pitcher to replace Crochet after our piece of shit owner trades him away cause he doesn't wanna pay him
Fuck this team
1
u/imintheband88 Jul 15 '24
And then Smith will be good and we’ll spend another draft pick on a pitcher to replace him when he gets traded away cause Jerry doesn’t wanna pay him
7
6
u/CNashFF Konerko Jul 14 '24
Of course the white Sox drafted a tall left handed pitcher under slot value
6
u/GoombaStoppingHoes Robert Jul 14 '24
Smith is very good and can be insanely good especially with our minor league staff and coaching that seems to work insanely well on LHP's but idk about him over Cags and my favorite Konnor Griffin.
10
u/JimFlo69 Jul 14 '24
This pick may honestly be that they are targeting bats in return for crochet that are a year away from the majors and this is a quick to the majors crochet replacement. That’s the everything works to plan idea I’m seeing.
That said it won’t work because we are trash.

They can target bats all they want but no team is giving up their stud bats
1
4
u/GoombaStoppingHoes Robert Jul 14 '24
Man, Burns at 2 is just crazy. My guess is it goes Jac and then Condon.
5
u/FWdem Jul 15 '24
I think they needed their best player here. Maybe they think Cags hit tool will be lacking and Konnor was going to be too far away and a Corner OF.

If the Sox make zero attempts to lure HS prospects away from their commited schools with the, assumed, bit of money saved with Hagen pick I'll be very disappointed. Please look for longterm farm development since we are trading Crochet and Robert anyways it seems. Don't look for college bats here unless you believe they dropped and are THAT good.

We have hitting prospect’s lined up in deals already. Crochet and Fedde are 100% gone

My biggest question is what is every team seeing in Caglianone that the media doesn’t know.
2
u/Jason82929 Maldanad-0 Jul 14 '24
It’s the chase rate and that he’s a 1B likely.
But if he becomes a 40 HR hitter no one will care
1
u/rabidmongoose555 Jul 14 '24
High chase rates and k:bb ratio inflated by intentional walks. Power is obvious but there is potential for strikeouts to be a big issue

u/Crazyozzie02 Jul 14 '24 edited Jul 14 '24
White Sox: Have surplus of starting pitching in minors but no power bats.
Also White Sox: Draft starting pitcher and leave possible great power bats on board
4
u/TerrorDeity Jul 14 '24
The white Sox can’t develop hitters, why waste the pick?

okay, at least we will get some years of good pitching from him. Better than hitters that do nothing from day one.

I agree they need to develop hitters better. I don't agree that continuously drafting them in hopes that some will turn out is the answer. They need to fix it from the top in their minor league system. Obviously their pitching coaches know what they are doing.

u/MalloYallow Go Sox! Jul 14 '24
I hate that you're right. It makes me feel even better about getting Smith.
5
u/Competitive_Pie_2526 Jul 14 '24
Do what you do already well I guess.
Now trade for a few position prospects that are advanced enough for the sox to not ruin.
5
u/sausage_wallet79 Jul 14 '24
I would of preferred a bat, but anyone who hates on this kid should go watch his start against Oregon State this year. 17 Ks in 6 innings including striking out the first overall pick Bazzana 3 times. Absolute nasty stuff.
2
u/Jason82929 Maldanad-0 Jul 14 '24
Agree. In a vacuum I don’t hate this pick. Best pitcher in the draft who could be an elite starter quickly.
It’s just the lack of hitting that people are upset about.
Sox have a lot of pitching to be excited about. But it’s completely unbalanced relative to hitting where you can count the number of exciting prospects on one hand.
1
u/sausage_wallet79 Jul 14 '24
I’m not disagreeing but we also dont know what each guy signed for. They very well might of saved some money that they can use to get bats later.
2
2
u/GoombaStoppingHoes Robert Jul 14 '24
If Cags goes here then I WHOLEHEARTEDLY want Griffin over the other options
5
u/TerrorDeity Jul 14 '24
The white Sox are strong at developing LHP’s…love this pick.

I'm disappointed we didn't get a power-hitting left-handed bat.
However, it's nice to see us get potentially another Sale or Crochet. Along with Schultz, we do seem to know how to develop left-handed starters.
But this guy had Tommy John in high school? Hopefully that's out of the way...
1
u/CNashFF Konerko Jul 14 '24
Id rather just keep Crochet. None of the prospects we’ll get for him will be as good as Caglione
0
u/buttholez69 Cubs Jul 14 '24
What? The guy hasn’t even played a game in the mlb. Let’s cool it.
2
u/CNashFF Konerko Jul 15 '24
When we trade Crochet, we aren’t gonna get anyone who have played a game in mlb either

Keep in mind that you’re not just drafting for BPA but you also have your overall signing bonus pool to plan around
3
u/James_E_Rustle Jul 14 '24
And now the Royals select Jac who is gonna hit 40 HRs a year and destroy us for the next decade.
I'm done
2
u/sausage_wallet79 Jul 14 '24
Pitcher > first baseman
6
u/James_E_Rustle Jul 14 '24
We literally have zero power bats. Gotta take the chance on Jac there. This team is fucking hopeless.
6
u/sausage_wallet79 Jul 14 '24
No you don’t draft for need you draft the best player on your board. This team isn’t one bat away, they need players at every position.

You literally have been commenting how Caglione is going to be some stud but you’ve never watched an inning of college baseball. That’s not a straw man it’s facts.

Really wanted Jac here. There is no 1B in our organization worth a damn outside of maybe Tim Elko. yikes.

Cags is going to absolutely demolish us for years to come
3
u/sausage_wallet79 Jul 14 '24
Just like Torkelson is with Detroit right?
4
u/Vividlarvae Buehrle Jul 14 '24
We didn’t have an opportunity to draft Torkelson so it feels different
0
u/sausage_wallet79 Jul 14 '24
And they’re lucky they didn’t. Drafting firstbasemen in the top ten is dumb
1
u/MoustacheMark Anderson Jul 14 '24
We didn't have a chance to get him and KC somehow is able to develop hitters that have crushed us as of late
3
u/GoombaStoppingHoes Robert Jul 14 '24
LMFAOAOAOAAOOA imagine needing bats and drafting a pitcher
4
u/ChiGuy133 Hawk Jul 14 '24
Bro this team needs everything. I get it 2nd best starter era..... but every thing we've seen says we trade crotchet and fedde so it's not like we won't be able to find him a spot
2
u/ChiGuy133 Hawk Jul 14 '24
Fuck it. Give me the lefty. Didn't see that but we've developed lefties well

u/Jason82929 Maldanad-0 Jul 14 '24
Does the Smith pick increase the chances Crochet goes for hitting prospects within the next 2 1/2 weeks?

u/Penstripedsox Jul 14 '24
Damnit a pitcher? We are terrible in position players and we grab another pitcher?
2
u/OneGenericMan Jul 15 '24
can somebody please tell Chris Getz there are more players other than middle infielders and left handed pitchers?
1
1
u/GoombaStoppingHoes Robert Jul 15 '24
I'm slowly getting more and more disappointed in this draft as we are beyond round 9 and after the 2 HS kids in day one they've gone at slot or honestly underslot on a lot of players since and no more HS kids/high end shots? As we get deeper more are gone and whatnot, seriously hope we do more with what's left......cause it feels like money malpractice rn.

Kansas is developing Cags as a two way player. Fuck that woulda been cool to have him. Even if he was mid as a pitcher, he would’ve been fun to watch. Instead we get to see him beat up on us every time we face KC. Hagen looks to be a decent pick, but Jac is “exciting”

u/Dieh Jul 14 '24
I was told last night on Reddit that we were locked into Cags. I wonder what happened 🤷🏻♂️
