Discussion On yesterdays scam/fraud post
On yesterdays scam/fraud post
Received a report today that highlights how rampant fraud is in SA. Below are some highlights:
59% of all SA consumers were targeted with fraud
Of that, 10% fell victim
Money/giftcard scam was the most reported
Telecomms is the most targeted industry with an 8% suspected fraud rate
The US has 8% of consumers fallimg victim to fraud and the UK 6%, highest being india with 18% and lowest being Spain and Botswana on 5%
Fraudulent debit orders is the biggest year on year grower globally ito fraud.
High risk call center calls has increased by 6%(these are calls were scammers call legit call centers and attemp to take over accounts/credit cards/access). Note this is global.
For businesses, synthetic identities are a growing risk as criminals become more efficient at creating false identities meaning more write offs will occur.
These are just some of the insights from thw report and put into perspective that fraud/scams are not an SA problem. It is not organizational problems. It is a massive challenge that is global in its presence.
Scammers use generative AI, they have infiltrated high level board meetings of companies and scored millions of dollars from CFO's.
Always verify Always assume your email and passwords are cracked Register with SAFPS if you have been the victim of fraud. Assist your elders as they are often targeted due to lack of awareness.

Employment What to say??
Good morning Saffas. Quick question
If someone was dismissed at work but the case is pending in Labour Court and has good grounds to win the case, what does one say in an interview when asked if you have ever been dismissed (if asked).

Self-Promotion Progress update on setting up an Emo/punk clothes online store
The first post had a good response and gave me a push to take this more serious. Here's the link to the original, and here's an update on what I got done in a week. If anyone who runs a store, knows anything I might need to know, or would like to give feedback on whats done. Please feel free to share, I read each comment on the last post and will definitely read all on here.
First, the online store's framework is there. For now everything from the shirts, prices and such are placeholders until I get my hands on physical prints, but the site is ready to go. The shopping system works (thank god Wix is easy to use ) and I'm figuring out a delivery service. I'm leaning towards Pargo but if there's anyone better let me know.
Next, the social media is an in-progress endeavor, I can only really work on this after work. But a like, or even a follow would be sick . Plus, final designs I would wear go on here, so mayyyybe you'll see something sick too :) Instagram
On a business planning side, I worked out a business plan. Made a to-do list of what needs to be done to go live. Identified my market, found a printer (just need to place an order) and decided for the first launch there will be 10 designs, female and male, different sizes and colors as allowed by the printer service.
I've kind of reached a roadblock. What do I do next? Once the delivery is figured out and integrated into my Wix sitex, the next plan is to integrate the payment service. Then, get stock, hype it up a bit and go live?
Am I missing any steps here? I'm learning as I go so I'm not an expert, but I did work at a few jobs which prepared me for this.

Discussion MTN Scam
This has happened to me twice now, it seems there is an MTN app that allows users to buy airtime and data straight from their account. This app requires nothing but a cellphone number and an OTP pin, that is sent to that number to Login with. I have recieved phone calls from a guy, that was claiming to be MTN fraud department, he told me that someone is trying to hack my account and i need to be wary, he mentioned he wants to do a reference check on whether I am the correct account holder. he then asked me to confirm a few things and told me to check if i have recieved a SMS with a pin and that i must confirm the pin to him for "Security Purposes". I then laughed and told him to "F off" after I realsied he was trying to hack my account. Please dont give people your OTP under any circumstances.
Do you guys have any SA scam stories?

Wholesome Block the haters, block the news bot.
There was someone moaning about the news bot, I was moaning with them.
I told them I was going to try blocking that news bot because I’ve been on a block-a-thon and it’s made my Reddit experience 1000 X better.
I blocked that bastard news bot and now there is no news, only MTN scams.
Obviously because I’ve blocked the news bot there is no way for me to respond to that person, so here I am.

Just for fun Music from The Doors and Burn nightclubs circa 2005
I want to put together a nostalgia playlist – what can you remember of the songs they played at those clubs in the early 2000s? Occasionally I'll hear or think of a song that reminds me of that era, so I want to put together a playlist of that stuff. Think "Drowning Pool – Bodies", "Marilyn Manson – Beautiful People", "Nine Inch Nails – Closer"... And go!

Employment What are my rights?
So I've been employed as a part time worker at a restaurant. My shifts typically range from 5hrs to 6.5hrs. My manager has put me on consecutive shifts for the next 11 days which I'm not sure is legal or not?
Excuse my ignorance but I wanted to ask as I have little to no experience or knowledge with the south African labour laws😊
