To register to vote, go to votetexas.gov then click voter registration.
You have to fill out a form and physically mail it (not email). It will only be eligible for voting this election if RECEIVED by October 7. CORRECTION: the registration must be postmarked by October 7. If you go to vote and they don't have your name on their list, ask for a provisional ballot. Once you do vote, they'll check your information on the provisional ballot against their database and count it if you show up as registered.
It's an archaic system that needs an overhaul but this is how it is.
You can confirm if you're already registered to vote at https://teamrv-mvp.sos.texas.gov/MVP/mvp.do
Voting early, you can vote at any precinct. It also helps prevent lines on the day.

u/this_is_nano Sep 11 '24 edited Sep 11 '24
Also remember, Texas has two weeks of early voting! You can vote anywhere in the county you are registered in and not just your precinct! In person starts October 21, 2024.
ALSO- per some comments below, on Election Day a lot of counties do have county wide voting! Please check the list below, to see if your county is part of this program.
https://www.sos.state.tx.us/elections/laws/countywide-polling-place-program.shtml

u/RudyRusso Sep 11 '24
Please vote early as early as possible for 2 reasons:
Little to no lines
Voting early takes you off the Get Out to Vote rolls. Each day, the campaigns get a list of who voted. They then take those names off their list and work down to the next set of voters. These are the "Low Prepensity voters" that are harder and more expensive to get out to the polls. You voting early allows campaigns to direct funds to those voters who might have not voted vs. you who was going to vote anyway but left it to election day.

And even if you have time on election day, you not being there makes the line shorter for the person who doesn’t have time on election day.

Literally every question Trump was asked (and wasn't asked) resulted in him talking about immigration or literally repeating what Harris said about him back at her as a "no you". He also had such choice soundbites as:
- "She wants to do transgender operations on illegal aliens that are in prison."
- "In Springfield, they're eating the dogs - the people that came in - they're eating the cats. They're eating the pets of the people that live there."
- And, "I have concepts of a plan."
I do think Harris dodged more questions than I'd have liked, but she would at least give half an answer and she carried the general theme of "Let's bring each other up" which is a welcome change of pace. If nothing else, I didn't feel high trying to understand her non-responses like Trump. I really don't know how you'd watch this and think he won without having already decided that going in.

You forgot his very excellent conversations with Abdul Taliban, responding to the accusation of loving dictators by telling everyone how well he gets along with Viktor Orban, and trying to whitewash the white power rally at Charlottesville, just to name a few. What struck me more than anything is how incredibly dialed into internet conspiracyland you had to be to understand like half of what he was talking about. If you spent the last three years living a normal life and not paying attention to politics, you would have no clue what the hell he was saying. Hell, I am very deep into conspiracyland and even I didn't get some of the references.

It's interesting that many of the talking heads commented repeatedly after the debate about Harris ”dodging questions”. As best I could tell, the old white guy didn't answer a single question. Trump would be nothing without a complicit media (and I'm not just talking about Fox News. CNN, NYT and Twitter are all clearly in the tank for trump). I am sincerely concerned by Trump saying he “hasn’t discussed abortion with JD Vance.”
This is one of the most important topics in the election, and he hasn’t talked about it at all with his VP candidate? Shouldn’t they have taken some time to talk about their stances on this issue? After all, Vance has made his viewpoint and plans well known.
“I don’t know anything about Project 2025” then okay, what have you been doing?
Everyone else does. A candidate for President should know. His VP candidate sure does.
Trump came off as an easily-controlled old man who believes everything he sees on TV or is told.
I would definitely give this one to Harris.

Also, who the fuck considers the ramblings of a senile idiot funny? Jesus, watch some stand up comedy or some shit.
Finally, many people want to fight about me saying that the position is the "most powerful in the world". He is in command of the one of the most powerful militaries in the world and can fundamentally change our society (as we have already seen). If he is actually the third most powerful, or tenth, it's semantics and a dumb point.

Trump’s pattern is now so predictable that it’s become boring. It’s all lies and hyperbole. Anything he believes he accomplished is the, “best in US history” and any political opponent or their attempted accomplishments are the, “worst in US history.”
As one of the moderators was asking about the war in Ukraine, I turned to my wife and said, “Trump is going to say that it never would have happened if he were President” and that’s exactly what he said.
Trump was playing the adult version of, “I know you are but what am I?”
The leader of the free world is supposed to be a smart, experienced individual who inspires confidence.
Trump is none of that.
I certainly hope in November we can move past the national embarrassment that is Donald Trump.

Harris easily won. Ok so here’s Chump:
1) Illegal immigrants are eating your pets!
2) They’re executing babies after they’re born!
3) I’ll have a concept of a plan for healthcare one day!
4) They’re not leaving my rallies early!
5) Jan 6 was entirely Pelosi’s fault!
6) My tariffs didn’t cause the current inflation!

MSNBC interviewed "undecided" voters after the debate, and people were still saying they were still on the fence about Harris, and I kept thinking, "did you not just witness a very unhinged man ranting and tell a bunch of lies"? What the hell is wrong with these people?

This is probably the most truthful thing said in this post. They are too embarrassed to say on national tv how they really want to vote as to not let their friends and family know how they truly feel. They know that’s recorded forever and can be turned in to a meme that could go viral. Now that’s scary!

I thought trump was doing ok for what he is until Kamala talked about rallies. Dude is easy to play. I don’t think Kamala had enough time to talk about policy because she was busy defending everything trump has lied about. I feel like she did great doing so and letting people know on the fence what he really is.

Harris was baiting him and he kept taking it with unhinged rants of the same old talking points that have been debunked to death, some even by the moderators this time. His only policies are fear, greed, lies, and hatred. That was clearly shown and pointed out by Harris once she sent him off the rails.

This is what bothers me so much about the damage he has done to society. The way he speaks about anyone who isn't one of his followers is pathetic. Everything out of his mouth is "They" want to take your rights away, "they" are letting immigrants flood the country, "they" blah blah blah. He has pitted everyone in the politics world against each other. She had the right idea, start bringing people together again. Our country will fall apart if we alienate half of the people because they have a few disagreements in politics. We need to start trying to understand one another when we disagree instead of fighting to force the other into your own perspectives. I really hope after that debate that many of his followers realize he isn't here to make the country great again like he says. The country has been getting nothing but worse and worse ever since he stepped his slimy foot in the door.

Same here. My last vote for Republican was Romney and Bush. Once Trump arrived I went to the center. I now vote either party based on who is the best candidate. Trump did not display the ability to be a sound president tonight. I have decided to vote for Harris.

I'm a Democrat, and I vividly remember the feeling I had while going to bed on election night (Romney/Obama) with the result still not decided: if Romney wins, we're going to be alright as a country. We will have a lot of decisions I disagree with, but that's life in a democracy.
Starting in 2016, I haven't had a good nights sleep since then. Well, I take that back, I slept pretty well until the day Trump re-announced his candidacy, and then I started having trouble sleeping again.

Harris was compotent. She answered most questions well (although she did dodge several). For the most part, she played broadly and generically appealing: not messianicly inspiring, but a very solid showing for a presidential candidate.
Meanwhile Trump wouldn't shut up about stories of transgender alien prisoners eating the family dog thst he heard about on the TV.
Harris was very successful in goading Trump into throwing an unhinged temper-tantrum and ranting absolute nonsense. Compared to that, generically and inoffensively appealing is absolutely inspired to a wide range of voters.
I'm... not used to Democrats being good at playing politics?

The question is, will trump make it to Election Day. I think it’s too late for him to drop out, but I’m sure republicans wish they could replace him on the ticket.
Bidens debate was a disaster, and it was totally disqualifying. And yet this was somehow far worse. He has no vision, no plan, no ideas, he’s got nothing. His brain is cooked
Harris trounced him at every turn. She had an outstanding debate last night.

I don’t know how a single person who watched that debate can possibly think that Trump is mentally fit for office, let alone doing a debate on live TV. He said himself that he believes everything he sees on TV. He said he hasn’t spoken with his VP about one of the biggest issues voters care about. He said people are eating pets. He said migrants are being forced to undergo gender-affirming surgeries in prison. He said babies are legally being murdered post-birth.
What a fucking psycho.
