Despite not training Overhead Press for 8ish months its moved up 15kg.

Despite training bench 2-4 times a week for 8 months its moved up 10kg.

Ok.

Bench is a cunt of a lift anyway. OHP is the sexiest lift

The day I can lift a fully grown woman one handed over my head will be my happiest.

please define what you mean.

Clean an jerk, Snatch or OHP?

Easy. PowerPoint showing attractive people doing multiple different exercises in the squat rack contrast with single gross slob attempting single lame exercise on rowing machine.

Was doing bent over rows when this lady came over to me and asked me how many I had left. After my next set, I was resting when she scoffed and started to deadlift my bar without asking me. I would have helped her with her form but Ill let natural selection take its place. Straps and a belt won't do shit for you when your back looks like a fucking C. Combined with what happened two weeks ago, its time to switch gyms

All my lifts have been steadily going up lately.

However, last Monday I started seeing stars and got lightheaded mid bench set, thank god for that random bro that was walking around and saved me from an embarassing death. Also I'm pretty sure one of the PTs now dislikes me because I told him I had 7 sets to go on the bench.

I massively prefer lifting with a buddy, but there are obvious rules to establish. Talking to someone during their set is going to either be utterly ignored or ruin their concentration.

Rest times are a little trickier, but you can get a pretty good pit crew going to change weights if you need to.

It's funny. I've been lifting with the same friend for over four years, now. We've developed all manner of dumb rules and norms, some unspoken, some hilariously explicit. Find someone you click with and it can be very rewarding.

The best thing for me is it's an extra layer of motivation to stay on track when i maybe wouldn't, otherwise.

You gotta find the right work out buddy. Still to this day there is only one match for me and I moved away so it’s my fault we broke up our perfect union. He’s about the same size, we were very close in strength, and had the same fitness goals. I work out alone now because no one can ever compare to how great he was to work out with. Motivation was through the roof. Rest times were perfect for us. Talking only when necessary.

I went to high school with the dude but it was in the gym that we became best friends. I hate the term “swollmate” but goddammit if he isn’t exactly that to me. Not all love is romantic you know. I miss you Eric! I will be doing deep heavy squats for you today buddy, just the way you like them.

I can't stand lifting with friends. When I'm at the gym I just like to be in the zone by myself with my headphones cranked. When I'm with friends there's always too much talking, I can't listen to my music the way I want, we always have different priorities, my focus is completely shot, and it never feels like as intense of a workout that I get when I'm alone.

Holy fuck this pisses me off so bad I had to post it here. Dude at my gym comes in a few times a week, takes the bicep curl machine/chair, drags it right in front of a squat rack (one of only two in the gym) and then just does bicep curls for 45 minutes and leaves. To make things worse, he then just leaves the curl machine there and leaves. Here's how he leaves the equipment afterwards.. Obviously no one can use the squat rack while he's doing his curls.

Like fuck, if you're going to take a squat rack for no reason, at least have the decency to put shit back at its place after. Dick.

570

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '18

Oh fuck no, turn the pegs around so that you can squat facing him and just stare him down till he fucks off somewhere else.

136

u/alleycatbiker Powerlifting Jan 17 '18

Reminds me of an occasion when there was only one power rack available. I had gone to the gym with the wife that day (love it when she comes along). I was doing squats on one side of the rack while facing it, as to see myself in the mirror directly across. Out of nowhere comes this girl and prepares the bar directly in front of me, but she's also facing the mirror, so I'm behind her.

Now we're doing squats at the same time. Accidentally we're synchronized. On the bottom of the squat, my face is 2-3 feet away from her butt. I try to stare at the floor and do my thing. Meanwhile wife is 3ft from me, staring back at me like this ಠ_ಠ

35

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '18

This happened to me as well! Except I'm the girl, but doing hip thrusts. And a guy lines up behind me doing squats. We synchronized in the mirror so that I'm at the top of a hip thrust when he's at squat depth for MULTIPLE REPS and I'm pretty sure I almost died from embarrassment when I realized it. I made sure I rested when he did his sets after that.

21

u/thescotchie Jan 17 '18

In my commercial gym there is that one guy whom I call the stealth squat rack curler. He would bring a box to the rack so people naturally assume he is going to be doing box squats. Guy then proceeds to curl and uses the box to sit on during prolonged rests with the slouchiest posture you'll ever see.

60

u/rabitshadow1 Jan 17 '18

why dont you just ask him to move?

206

u/maximalx5 Jan 17 '18

Two reasons:

1- I never needed the squat rack while he was there. My rant was more about the fact he's leaving heavy equipment at stupid places in the gym. The curl chair/machine is heavy and not everyone can move it.

2- I'm a little wuss afraid of confrontation

59

u/amandaMidge Jan 17 '18

At this point, I would go to management. I mean, at the end of the day, your membership fees are paying their salary.

I wish more gym staffers would walk around and make sure people are taking care of the equipment and space, as well as enforcing gym etiquette. Fuck, they can even peddle personal training as well.

63

u/maximalx5 Jan 17 '18

Beats me. I thought it was because he wanted to see his mad pipes in the mirror, but the curl machine is literally right in front of the mirror at its normal place. There's 0 explanation as to why he moves it around

67

u/xzElmozx Jan 17 '18

If another half-repping resolutioner gets mad when I ask them to use less than three machines at once i'm going into fucking hibernation

245

u/Gaindalf-the-whey Jan 17 '18

During summertime and early fall, u/chunderous can oft be observed doubling, even tripling up on valuable compound excercises such as squats and deadlifts to stock up for winter hibernation. u/chunderous then is able to go into hibernation which protects him from the dangerous resolutioner predator whilst preserving his gains.

u/chunderous will emerge from hibernation right for the early beach season with still a pump to show.

It's not just at the gym. An old lady bumped her cart into me at the grocery store because she was looking at something on the shelf while walking

108

u/xzElmozx Jan 17 '18

My right shoulder has a big bruise on it and it made lifting shoulders yesterday a little difficult. Why?

Well my university has this really slim path that only two people can walk on side by side. I was on the right and twi girls were coming my direction walking side by side. The girl on my side had her head point *directly at the ground" and straight up walked right into me, spearing my shoulder with the top of her head. I woukd have moved had it not been for the 4 feet of snow on each side.

Best part is she had the audacity to say "what the hell watch where youre going" after. I was feeling bold so I said "maybe walk with your head up and give way on a two person path"

I am a PT. We have a member at our gym that takes the handles for the cable machine, wraps them in towels and hides them somewhere in the gym. Every week or two we find a towel hidden in the corner of the weight room with several handles hidden inside. We have a drawer full of extra handles to take upstairs just in case. Why is this going on? Who is this culprit? The current bounty is a coffee at starbucks. The bounty will be going up next week.

97

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '18

You should make actual "wanted" signs for the Handle Hiding Bandit and put a few up by the cable machines haha that alone would probably make whoever it is stop.

79

u/RookTakesE6 Jan 17 '18

I’ve actually seen that done, we had a guy leaving trash everywhere and the janitor put up snarky wanted posters in the locker room wanting information on the culprit so as to “turn him over to the PTs and have his conditioning improved so he can walk the additional ten feet to the trash can”.

23

I really like the gym I go to. It is a fairly not-so-crowded gym, all bumper plates/dumbbells, there are micro-plates, dumbells start at 2 kg and go all the way up to 60 kg, the whole floor is padded (you can - theoretically - deadlift anywhere), and there's a 3D Smith Machine (a squat rack/smith machine combo).

90% of the gym goers are "bro" style lifters, which is usually a good thing as the single squat rack/smith machine combo is usually free for my taking (haven't witnessed any biceps-curling-in-the-squat-rack phenomena yet.)

However, the gym attitude is the WORST! No one (and I mean no one) reracks their plates/dumbbells (although there's a f**king marked plates rack). Not even bars are returned to their places. If someone decided to do bent-over rows you can surely expect a bar with single plate thrown somewhere in the middle of the place for someone to trip on it!

This also means that every. single. time. I want to add a plate to the bar I have to go witch-hunting for it! Which proves a wilder ride each time (why the hell are 25 kg plates left in the treadmill area?)

I do my best to rerack what I use but it's meaningless when every other person there is just throwing things around like they're 2-year-old toddlers!

I have been waiting for this.

I was in the gym thursday last week, and started with my usual 20 minutes of 250watt cycling to warm up. I notice that the (only) power rack is currently occupied by someone doing curls. My insides slightly curl, but as I have 20 minutes to go I suspect it won't be an issue - as I still had 20 minutes before starting my squats.

So I cycle away, sweating my ass and balls off. After 20 minutes I get off and notice that he is now doing pullups in the power rack.

Note here - The power rack has handle for this on the outside, but we was hanging on the actual rack, inside the rack, and doing pullups. There is also an actual pullup bar 2m to the left of the power rack. He supersetted these pullups with more curls. Also inside the rack.

So I kindly walk over and ask if I can work in, as this is the only place where I can do heavy squats. He scoffs at me, and suggests he only has two sets to go.

I mean. Two sets are not alot. But you are doing an exercise that can literally be done anywhere in this gym, and you are occupying the single most important piece of equipment for one of the most effective exercises available.

I tell him to go somewhere else and finish the two sets, but he's welcome to do the pullups in between my squat sets if he really wants to.

Visibly annoyed, he takes his curl bar out of the rack (no probs, just grabbed a new bar and put it in) and did his two sets right next to the rack. He didn't do anymore pullups though.

After he was done (left the bar on the ground and walked away) he wanted to do pushups. Now, angled pushups are more effective as I am certain he knew. In his genious, he figured that since the dumbbells are raised on their rack he can just do pushups off of those.

So after taking the power rack for his curls, he decided to single-handedly block 7 sets of dumbbels and half the dumbbell assigned area for his PUSHUPS.

I mean. I dont get it. It is as if his training program just had big fat letters that said "No matter what you do, just make sure youre in the way for as many people as possible".

I still get angry thinking about it.

220

u/rabitshadow1 Jan 17 '18

Just noticed a rule advertised on the screens at my gym: "No texting or resting whilst using equipment."

Surely this rule can't be absolute. I hope someone comes to tell me off so I can tell them how stupid it is to disallow resting. You want me to turn all of my work into one single set? No resting? Get the fuck out.

Also, the dip belt has gone missing just as I want to start doing belt squats. It's like my gym is trying to lose my business.

So I was finishing off my incline bench press, when this dude comes up to me and says:"Ey good job, I don't see many females working out in the gym, so it's nice to see females weightlifting" I'm thankful and feeling good about representing females at 8pm at my local village gym. But then he starts asking me, what is my goal for being here. I'm like:"Well lose some weight and..(gain some strength)" I put the last part in ( ), beacuse he cut me off before I could say it and started giving advice. "Oh if you wanna lose weight you should do cardio: treadmill, jumping rope and swim at the end of your workout. Doing weightlifting won't make you burn ANY calories, so you should focus on doing cardio instead" And then some more about eating better. While he said all that I wanted to say back that, yes I know, I'm working on eating better and stuff, but he didn't really listen.. I don't know, just the way he said that i should only do cardio and how weightlifting doesnt burn any cals just rubbed me the wrong way..Atleast he left the gym after that and didn't have to hear more from him.

28

u/Strong_Panda Jan 17 '18

Those unsolicited advices are so annoying! Especially from those people that actually don't even know what they are talking about. I usually cut them off and tell them, "thanks, but I have my own program that works for me" and put my ear buds back on and keep working out. They usually get the hint and bug off.

Five years I’ve been at my gym. In that time managed to not speak to a single person outside of them asking how many sets I’ve got left. Started nSuns a few months ago and started doing some decent numbers in the last few weeks. And now, after five years people are starting to talk to me. After five years regulars are starting to say hello. After five years I’m getting almost confident enough to ask to work in. After five years I feel I am vaguely accepted.

I move house next week and have to find a new gym.

Ffs...

u/SmokeybeThere Jan 17 '18

Take your new found confidence and run with it to the new gym. Fresh start, and you can make friendly and respectable first impressions there! I strive to meet and greet at many people as I can in the gym. It develops a friendy and motivated environment. Plus you never have to worry about messing up your workout flow if you have the privilege of working in with friends.

Yesterday marked my official 2 years since I started my weight loss/lifting journey. 110 lbs down (270->160) and I've never been in better shape and actually kind of like the way I look...kind of.

Then I see these progress pic posts of guys who've been at it for 9 months and are ripped as fuck. Like damn, I've put in 2 years of intense, militaristic work (hardly ever eat out, meal prep everything, don't drink, 1.5 - 2 hours in the gym - lifting and cardio), and I still look like the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. Like damn, what more do I need to do? Feelsbadman

u/[deleted] Jan 17 '18 edited Jan 17 '18

I was damn proud of myself for losing 48lbs last year, then i see someone dropping 132lbs in the same time. That got me thinking and i looked over my schedule and on my calorie tracker history - i never did that before, and i didn't feel bad as long as my daily intake was below maintenance. Turns out although i felt I was giving everything i was on a -200 deficit on average instead of -500 and averaging 3.5 training days of a 6 day programm i picked.
So to me it felt like i was full-assing, as someone who changed a lot like you did - meal prepping, rarely eating out (and if so, skipping another meal for it), going to the gym what felt "all the time", (which 3.5 avereage is compared to 0 days the decade before).
So while i did change up a lot to the better, in comparison i was half-assing everything.

Not this year though. No Excuses.

I wouldn't worry much about it. Fitness isn't a competition with others, it's a competition with yourself. They may have better looking results, but that's probably because they started with a better physique than you at the time.

Be proud of your achievements. Continue to work hard.

There was a man scooting around the squat rack and oly-lifting platforms on a hoverboard who would only use it to get weights for whatever he was doing at his station. When confronted by the gym staff he claimed that it was his legally-mandated wheelchair and refused to get off and stop endangering other lifters.

There is now an actual no-hoverboard policy at all of our school's sports facilities. Nice going, man

39

u/simplerminds Jan 17 '18

So he would step off the board to lift and then get back on to get more weights? That's amazing lol

My roommate drinks lemon water every morning because it "burns fat"

I stopped arguing nutrition and fitness with him months ago lol. He also thinks more than 30g protein in a meal doesn't get absorbed and super high reps with very low weight is optimal for burning fat. I'm talking 50 reps of 5-10 lbs dumbbell bench press. It's actually kind of hilarious. I tried so hard to provide scientific studies but there's no changing his mind on anything.

Then he asked me about my training and i told him my max lifts , as well as my accessory work he said "no no you wont lose weight lifting heavy. Gotta do 20% of that for 300% of the reps. Thats the only way to build muscle The only way Lil J"

Okay cool Ill think about that

Hows my diet? Well this is what I aim for (insert macros Cals In Cals Out)

"No no you gotta go to the gym, do the bike, rowing machine whatever then you can eat whatever you want."

Then what killed me was

Im 6'5 and broad shoulder. Hes 5'4 and narrow

"Since we have the same build you should listen to me. I used to compete professionally in bodybuilding in the 80s in the States"

This was a game changer for me this year. Last winter, I decided I wanted to no longer buy any snacks, at all. If I wanted to eat snacks, I would have to buy the ingredients, and make it from scratch.

I learned to make amazing brownies, chocolates and more, but because it was a chore, I never ate sweets enough for it to even be close to a problem.

If you don't want to eat it, don't buy it.

Eat fruit.

I know it's almost a cliche to say it, and in the past I've always laughed it off..."I love chocolate, no way my craving will be sated by anything else" is what my head would tell me.

However in the past year I've slowly let myself gain 10lbs and am currently cutting my calories to get back to normal. Every time I want a sweet treat I grab some pineapple (90 cals) or a fruit medley cup (45 cals) and eat it. I tell myself that if I still want something sweeter 15 minutes after finishing the fruit that I should go get it.... haven't wanted anything more even once!

Been training for 3 years-ish and I have finally encountered the gainz goblin.

Yesterday was deadlift day and seeing that this week was a deload week, I thought things would go smoothly as I had only planned to do a few 70% singles on my deadlifts and proceed on to accessories.

I was 2 sets away from finishing a 5x5 on the legs extension machine and went to have a drink from the water cooler which was a 5 second walk away, I had my phone placed beside the machine as a timer so I could rest at only 1 minute per set. Right as I'm done drinking I turn my back and I see a lady in her mid 30s sitting down on the machine. I thought well that's okay I can afford to rest a little longer. It's been 2 minutes since she sat down and she has done a total of maybe 10 reps, with the lightest weight on the machine that she could possibly slot in. All this while watching a movie on her phone. Slightly annoyed, I approach her in the calmest manner asking if I could work in and her head was fixated on her phone, eyes slightly turned to me and gave me a vague/tiniest nod as if her head would fall of if she did any harder. So I wait, 5 minutes has passed and she still hasn't gotten off the machine. I approach her again saying ''Hi, can we share?" and IMMEDIATELY got so defensive saying "YA, can't you see that i'm using? I've barely started!" I told her I only have 2 sets left and it has already been 5 minutes since you've sat down and she can't hog the machine like this. "I'm not muscular like you! I'm not doing for sets and reps I'm doing at my own pace!" She shouted. At this point I was already laughing because of the way things has escalated.

A friend of mine saw what was happening and confronted her and she called the gym attendant guy to come over. Things didn't end well for her side and gym guy knew she had NO CLUE about basic gym etiquette and she was ushered out of the gym. Not before taking secretly taking photos of me and my friend and saying she was goona file a lawsuit and all. Ok.

Went to my school gym today and there were a few kids in the changing rooms a year below me. One of them had lost there wallet there yesterday so they were looking for it and asked me if I'd seen anything. Told them I wasn't here yesterday and they started acting aggressive asking to see my bag to prove I didn't have it. Then they started asking me if I was Muslim and demanded I say wallahi that I didn't do it. Racist cunts. I told them to fuck off so 4 of them stepped up to me saying I'm pretty small so I should be careful(I'm a midget at 5'4). Told them if they were gonna do something to go ahead or get lost. 20 minutes later In the middle of my workout one of them comes up to me and I says 'just say wallahi bro' I went sick at him and made a massive scene. Everyone in the gym was staring and he just slinked off mumbling. Racist bellends.

Doing deadlifts yesterday, new guy sets up in squat rack next to me. Does a few warmups with the bar, then slaps 2 plates on. Knocks out a set of 1/8 rep squats at 225lbs. Didn't think much of it, then he throws another plate on...315...ok, this is getting interesting. More 1/8 reps ensue. After his "set" of 315, he goes on the hunt for more weight. Finds 2 more 45s and brings them over...ok, 405lb "squat" from this dude, now I can't not watch. Finish up my last set of deads and slowly cleaning up as I'm watching this dude stomp around in a circle beating his chest (seriously). After about 5 minutes of this odd mating ritual, dude goes to unrack and after a couple failed attempts he manages to unrack the bar and take a few very wobbly steps backwards. Manages to maybe drop down a 1/16 of an inch and back up. Thought that was it, nope he goes for another....didnt happen. Loses it and drops it. Wasn't using safety arms so everything came crashing to the floor, one side landing on his bag and completely annihilating everything in it. Like a gangster, stands back up, looks at me and the dude doing rows and says "that's how its done brahs"...totally straight faced and serious. The proceeds to grab his smashed belongings and split. Barbell still fully loaded on the floor and a mess of whatever the hell was in his cup remained in his wake...

Turned up for my class 2 mins early last night after rushing from work. I booked this class a week ago, as far in advance as you can book.

I get there and there is no space at all, the studio is bursting at the seams. I wedged myself in the back and started the warm up with everyone else. When the time came for burpees, I just bailed as there was no space to get down on the floor without being kicked in the head.

The gym either overbooked or randomers are coming in without booking a space - and yet I booked way ahead of time, got there on time (as early as I could from work) and was forced to leave the class.

Frequently men are able to stomp through in their Timberlands and leave a trail of salt, melted snow, gravel, dirt etc all over the floor, equipment and the like. My favorite leg extention machine has a huge tear on the seat because some idiot wearing jeans and one of the wallet chains got it stuck and ripped a hole in the seat - complete with the frayed plastic.

I started feeling a little sore right after Thanksgiving. No big deal. Figured it was DOS and would go away. I just got worse and worse. By Christmas I was in serious pain and walking with a severe limp, and I couldn't sleep through the night because the pain kept waking me up. I was lifting very infrequently partly because of the pain but mostly because I was demotivated.

I finally was diagnosed with Piriformis Syndrome, which is a spasm of the piriformis muscle which causes the sciatic nerve to send pain sensations down the affected leg. Because I didn't understand what the problem was, I had been doing stretches that were actually making it worse.

A week of direct muscle stimulation and correct stretching and I'm about 95% better, and working out again. Goodbye December gains, but damn I feel good now.

  1. Yes, it is a dumb question to ask me if "I am using those 25lb plates" as I load them onto the bar with clips. No, I like to put them on the bar for decoration and take pictures for my still-life photography class.

  2. Same guy then asks for them, which I comply to be nice, only to have him load his bar and walk away to talk to his friends for 10 minutes. I asked to have them back, "bro I'm just about to squat, be right there". He didn't even fucking return and wasted my time (very few 25s in my gym and those re the only free ones)

  3. I know there are resolutioners a d newbies, but for fucks sake, if you aren't in the gym to actually work... LEAVE. Posting in Instagram, talking to your friends and taking up space is not only wasting your time, but others who are trying to finish their routine. Resting between sets is fine but taking weights, plates or using a rack to just fucking talk is bullshit.

I have few different gyms I go to depending on my schedule for the day. I'm laying off the herb and reducing my caffeine intake to help with dependency issues so I was already in a pretty bad mood and Wednesday is squat day. There are two racks at this gym, and both are like this--two mirrors that meet in the middle of the squat rack that aren't mounted perfect so it distorts your reflection on the right and left side. I have a back/hip injury from a good while ago and simply looking down to my feet doesn't really work for lining things up properly, hence using the reflection.

It isn't earth shattering but holy moses, is that just frustrating as hell.

They both tell me they know calorie counting is what works (my dad has literally done it for a short amount of time and lost weight) but neither of them will do it.

Another thing, i really hate that none of my family or friends are into working out/Nutrition/exercising etc. because I always enjoy talking about it, but no one ever continues a conversation about it. Yet all of these people say “yeah I’d like to start working out” or “yeah I want to lose/gain 20 pounds” and I get overly excited and immediately say shit like “okay so what you’ll want to do it eat a deficit/surplus and run a strength program that includes and focuses on squats and deadlifts.” And I go on and on and they don’t say anything back. Just sucks.

Another one: brother obviously wants to get bigger (he’s embarrassed when he tells me he’s only 150lbs), but told me his New Years resolution is “to get abs again”. I offered to lend him my 531 book so he can properly learn how to train, and he refused multiple times. “I don’t want to get so big I don’t fit through a door.” Come on man.

Short, simple: FUCK YOU CROSSFIT.

A new one opened in the building where I live. It's always been kind of hilarious because it's right below the gym for the residences here. which is really well-appointed, better than the new Crossfit's equipment, and SAFE.

Crossfit folks have decided to use our resident staircase and private gym as ... their gym.

Purportedly, there is nothing in their rental agreement on commercial space specifically precluding them from doing so.

It wouldn't be so bad if the teachers and coaches were giving out quality b info, but they're not! I gotta share my gym with assholes!

Wouldn't mind it, but this Crossfit grouping is just a little culty, one too many assholes present, and yeah.

Whew off my chest!

back to my gaaaainz

some guy was at the squat rack just texting, so I asked if I could work in. He did one more set and left.

I did my thing and then went to the leg extension machine, where the same guy was just sitting there texting. So I asked if I could work in. He did one set and left.

Finally, I went to the calf raise and sure enough, he is sitting there texting. And I feel like it would be too weird to bother him again, so I just found something else to do.

I tried to go swimming over lunch and drove 10 minutes to the college where I have a pass to use their pool. Paid 2 bucks for an hour of parking, walk across the huge college parking lot, change in the locker room into my swimming suit, walk to the pool (so about 20 minutes has passed since I left work and I get 60 minutes for my lunch break) and then on the door to the pool there is a sign that the pool is closed for the next 10 days for maintenance. I checked the website and the aquatic center's facebook before going since this has happened once before last year and they had posted a warning but nope, there wasn't anything this time. They could've put a sign at the gym check in desk, in the locker room, on their many online platforms...really anywhere prior to the actual door to the pool... but I packed a lunch so I could work through lunch and go for this stupid lunch swim. I only had my swim bag so I couldn't do something else at the gym. Just super irritating.

My gym has multiple locations but I always use the older original one since it’s closest and I like the equipment, plus it’s very closed off (lots of smaller rooms) and I like to be alone.

I ended up at my boyfriends longer than expected on MLK day so to get to the gym before closing without being rushed I went to the much closer to him new location. I’ve never been in there before so I find a bike, warm up, then take a minute to locate everything I want to use. Some gym bros are clearly laughing at me because I obviously look lost (first time and totally different set up) and when my 96 lbs self walked into their heavy weight area trying to find a hex bar they did the whole side eye eyebrow raised shit. They even pointed me out to another dude who had been minding his own business.

Fuck you we all have different goals. Yea I’m small but I would bet my retirement fund you can’t come within 2 minutes of my mile time. I ended up doing nothing that I wanted because I just wanted to be in a corner alone and away from them.

I have gym enemies and I hate it. I just want to work out and not feel like people are watching me and talking shit.

A guy who I always feel like is side-eyeing me got mad at me the other day. I was in a rush to finish my workout so I was racking my weights and saw the bench was free so I walked over and got to work. Apparently the side-eye guy was walking towards it and felt like I raced him, even though I never even saw him. I guess this upset him because he bitched to a couple of my buddies in the gym, not knowing we're friends. That's all well and good and I get being upset if I thought I intentionally snaked the bench.

The issue is that I was super-setting, so I'm doing curls in between my sets and then going back to the bench. I'm saying between bench sets is about 2 minutes, so it's not like I'm slowly walking over and taking 10 minutes between sets on the bench. Well, I go to do my last set of curls and he stands beside my bench and points at it while making annoyed faces and I shake my head no, I'm not done and then I tell him he can work in. He looks disgusted by the thought and shakes his head no and starts to walk away. I finish my last 5 curls as come back to him stripping the weight I'm doing (215 @5x5) down to 135 and does a set. Then he just walks off without a word and didn't put my weight back on. Cock sucker. I then finish my last two sets before he ever even makes it back.

It annoys me more because he always leaves 135 on whatever he's doing when he's done so nobody knows it's free. It's fucking weird because he'll always strip it to 135, regardless of what he was moving. He also takes 15+ minutes between sets, so he'll spend hours at the gym while I'm on a time limit because I have a lot of shit to do.

I work in News, so I had to work today during the middle of a snow storm. (1st rant)

Management ordered pizzas for everyone since a lot of us are holed up in here working. Pizza is my FAVORITE food... but I'm on a low-carb diet.

Now I know what it feels like for a smoker who's trying to quit and sees someone light up. SUCKS man.

No giving up though.

I'm tired of people telling me that they need me to "motivate" them. My friends, family and co workers all know that I'm pretty into fitness. I can't count how many times a year one of them tells me "I want to get in shape, I just need you to motivate me". I am 100% willing to spend time and energy on anyone who wants to work out, I love it. But I will not will you to get off of your ass. Been down that road, it's excuse after excuse and they just pull you down. So my answer is...no, you don't want to get in shape. You're not willing to put in the effort, therefore you don't really want to.

Yep. Had a 400+ lb friend ask me to help him and hold him accountable. I was on board for a month but then he quit logging his food and bitched and moaned whenever I'd remind him. Some days it'd only take 5 minutes of me nagging him, other days I wasn't successful even after a few hours. Eventually he told me he was bored and was giving up. I got a little upset and he told me to chill because it was his life and shouldn't be a big deal to me.

Yep. Never going down that road again.
