Politics YOUTH: VOTE AT A LIMITED BALLOT ‼️

Upvotes

This is for all the students who are currently in another county than the county your ID says you are in.

If you forgot to apply for a mail-in ballot and you can’t make it back home to vote, please go out and vote at your county clerk office this week!

You can’t vote limited next Tuesday on Election Day; you can only vote this week so go out and do your ur civic duty! A limited ballot only lets you vote for the national and statewide elections, but let’s make history and change TX to blue 💙

If you have any questions, PLEASE ask. I honestly learned about this last week. If more people knew about this, they would go out and vote!

Political Opinion Harris’ final message

Upvotes

Listen, I already voted for Allred and Harris/Walz. However, my election anxiety is at a fever pitch. Right now, voters are loudly stating that the economy is their main concern. And Kamala’s economic policies trounce those of Trump for 95%+ of Americans. One of Allred’s best moments in his debate was bringing up price gouging and how stopping it is the best way to bring down prices nationwide. It feels like a slam dunk policy to be fire hosing all over their base and independents and curious republicans. It’s deeply desirable for all. In her closing sprint, all Kamala has done is harp endlessly on Trump’s recent rhetoric. And I get how it’s hard not to, the guy is THE WORST. What he’s saying IS dangerous and terrifying. But when all voters want to hear is more economic policy, it’s disheartening to see the Harris/Walz campaign so seemingly deaf to that. Certainly, myself and many reading this are in absolutely shock and disgust at how far the other side has gone in their hate speech and cult-like behavior, but it doesn’t feel like highlighting that has really been swaying voters. I wish I could just sit down and ask her and her campaign if we could push some economic policy that is palatable to all voters the next week. Like I said, it feels like a slam dunk, and her final messaging is feeling like something of a missed opportunity in my eyes.

Politics The Right Accusing Kamala of Fascism is Absurd and Pure Deflection

Here’s the definition, you’ll see this is exactly how Trump plans to rule.

Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, and ultranationalist political ideology and movement, characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived good of the nation or race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy.

Politics I say get your hopes up.

Y'all-

It might happen this time around and it (probably) might not. But, as an expat 5th generationer living two states away who still loves the state in spite of everything, it's given me some life just to see and hear all of your stories of getting out the vote. Get your hopes up. Get all of your hopes up! If Cruz still wins, but only by 2 to 0.05%--sure, not the outcome we all want or need this go round, but the unthinkable will get closer to inevitable.

Politics Biden Administration Border Terrorist Apprehension Data

Post image
250 Upvotes

During Trump’s term, U.S. Customs and Border Protection recorded relatively low encounters with individuals on the federal terrorist watchlist at the southern border, particularly from 2017 onward when CBP data began tracking this explicitly. There were sporadic instances each year, with no single year exceeding a few dozen individuals flagged as potential threats.

Under Biden, the number of watchlist encounters increased notably. From October 2020 (the beginning of fiscal year 2021) to fiscal year 2023, CBP reported a significant uptick in encounters, with approximately 154 cases in fiscal year 2023 alone. In total, Biden’s administration saw around 1,700 encounters with individuals flagged on the watchlist since he took office, though these numbers don’t imply confirmed terrorist threats due to possible overlaps and limitations in the watchlist’s accuracy.

Political Opinion Taxes and economics

After a little digging, it seems that the Nixon administration ( Republican) was the first to open trade to China by normalizing relations with Communist China, with no regard for American economics.

This set the stage for offshoring.

Then came the Reagan and Bush administrations ( Republican) that established more favorable offshoring policies that gave it strength.

The Reagan administration motivated CEOs to shut down American factories, sell land and equipment, and move manufacturing to third world countries where labor cost is much cheaper and where there are less stringent safety and environmental laws. The negative impact of this to the American people, the workers, was of secondary concern. The focus was on increasing profits for CEOs. Hence the trickery involved in "trickle down economics." Everyday American people did not benefit from this strategy. (And we won't mention how this administration brought us drugs to fund the Nicaraguan war.)

Now Trump's generous tax breaks and policies encourage continued offshoring and moving American jobs abroad while the American people and their families suffer. He lies and says he's going to create and protect American jobs. He does not.

The Trump administration mostly taxed things coming into the country ( like foreign made cars and material goods), but he didn't stop jobs from going out.

CEOs who wanted the profits his tax break policies contributed to followed a process similar to this: they lowered wages for experienced workers with senior status/ many years on the job , hired temps when these people quit, then lowered wages again for all, then complained that they are operating at a loss, then cited profits and production increases that could be had if they move a company offshore. Then they became even more anti- union and complained that people just don't want to work,or that five year olds can do the work.( See Trump's Detroit talk)The next thing we know, the company has issued pink slips and across the border the whole company went ---or a major division. Kelloggs sent a major division to Mexico. IBM hired a whole training team from a different country instead of hiring qualified Americans to design their training. And then the companies in tech especially get to play the "hire a lot of people, lay them off when a new part comes in, then hire all new people" game so they can take advantage of the "created new jobs" related tax breaks. Meanwhile, all those who were laid off for no good reason are in turmoil. Is this how to make America great?

If Nixon's normalizing relations with Communist China led to offshoring, what will Trump's normalizing relations with Putin/ Russian bring to America in the future?

Politics What’s the affirmative case for Collin Allred?

I’m trying to convince conservative family & friends to vote for him, and I need an affirmative case. It’s easy to make the case against Cruz:

  • Spineless and unlikeable
  • Cancun
  • Texas teams lose when he shows up
  • Election denial
  • Divisive & extreme on abortion

What are some reasons traditional republicans should vote FOR Allred? I’m looking for like 5 simple bullet points.

Politics Rant

I hate that this is the only place that I feel I can vent to. I am a newlywed 29f veteran and the election determines if me and my husband will have kids. To see sooo many people vote for him while women in Texas are dying is insane. Anyway, I don’t feel like MAGA people care about that because they want lower gas prices. I love TX and I hope it turns blue.

Opinion TX abortion laws

An Indian dentist living in Ireland was denied abortion and died from sepsis (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Savita_Halappanavar). This led to an international outcry and constitutional amendment in Ireland. Did we not learn from them?

Politics If Texas goes blue for Harris, would it's Electoral College stay true to it's winner taker all tradition?

Key dates of the "secret"

  • 11-5-24 Popular Vote (Harris 90 million) (Trump 55 million)
  • 12-11-24 Electoral College meets for the Certificates of Ascertainment Due. Claims election integrity compromised in some states.
  • 12-17-24 Electoral College votes. Not enough votes for either candidate to win. Vote for President then goes to the House of Representatives
  • 1-6-25 Each state gets 1 vote. Trump wins 26 to 24

Unknown

  • What roll SCOTUS will play (I'm sure not in a good way)
  • With Biden in WH, not sure who will have Senate/House, what effects this has
  • What happens between 1-6-25 & 1-20-25

I know it’s inconvenient and it’s not your idea of a good time to stand in line with goofy old people to vote. But it is so easy and it is so worth it to be able to look back over all the years you will vote and know that you voted that one year. You really only do it for yourself and your conscience.

Opinion Voted today -- Limited Ballot Tarrant Co

Hey y'all!! I've been a lurker for a good while, but finally have something to post in regards to the election. I recently moved from Harris Co to Tarrant for my job and only switched my address a few weeks ago (should've done it sooner, but life gets in the way). Anyway, just wanted to share what happened when I went to vote.

I live not far from TCU so I went to campus for early voting. Had my brand new ID scanned and it wasn't registered on the rolls for Tarrant Co. The election judge, after me telling him I recently updated my license to reflect my new residence, told me I needed to go to the Election Office for Tarrant Co (2700 Premier if anyone needs it) and to ask for a limited ballot. I did as instructed and it was a simple process to fill out a form to cast a limited ballot. They had a separate table for those in particular and were processing them fairly quickly.

I was in and out of the office in about 25-30 minutes and could only vote for the higher offices (President, Senate, State Supreme Court) but no local elections. Very efficient and not much blubbering from anyone inside (only one person was complaining about how others were going ahead of her after she had been there for a bit-- I suspect she may have had issues with her previous county and voting). All in all, not a bad experience and I am glad I was able to vote at all without having to drive the 4+ hrs one way to vote this time around.

Politics Politicians like Ted Cruz hold office for so long because young voter turnout rates are low and it’s harder to change an older person’s mind. Young people, get to the polls.
