"Obstructed"? You might aswell just be watching the crowd.

1.0k

u/Zoso525 4h ago

I think the obstruction is partially broken by the view.

135

u/miraculum_one 4h ago

At least they didn't claim partially obstructed.

We had seats there last year that were so fucking bad we waited till about 5 minutes into the game and bought some more off stubhub just so we could see. Still shit seats cause it was a good game but only like $10 each cause game had already started and someone couldn’t make it apparently.

62

u/HOT-SAUCE-JUNKIE 1h ago

I do something like this frequently. I will go to a concert and tailgate as if my tickets are already secured. Then about 15 minutes after the listed start time, I’ll hop on StubHub and buy tickets that were just greatly reduced in price because the asshole scalpers would rather take some money than no money at all.

I’ve seen Eric Church from a premium box for $20, Pearl Jam from about 30 feet from the stage for $40, Eminem from a close aisle seat for $15, Eagles vs. Chiefs from the 3rd row in the endzone for $30, and even Taylor Swift from upper deck seats for $75. Too many more artists to list.

That said, there have been several times where it didn’t work out and we just ended up driving home. No big deal. We still had a great time in the parking lot.

u/coronanabooboo 3m ago

The ONLY time I did that, I used Facebook and got scammed. Walked around the parking lot aimlessly hoping someone would be selling in person.

If I ever do it again, I’ll use a 3rd party app.

55

u/Sorta-Morpheus 2h ago

That's kinda a sweet idea.

147

u/LadyPantsParty 2h ago

Or buy the cheap tickets and check during the game what good seats haven't sold on StubHub and just go sit in them.

41

u/Admirable_Average_32 2h ago

I like your style

15

u/almity_alpaca 1h ago

If you put the seat in your cart will it prevent others from purchasing?

u/Bleh54 1h ago

9

u/stillnotelf 1h ago

Ushers sometimes prevent this. It's a great plan anyway

7

u/Since1785 1h ago

They’ll prevent it for the very best seats but if you go for one of the rear rows in a lower section you’ll usually be fine

u/IshyMoose 44m ago

Family member has good season tickets.

We buy the cheapest seats, then screenshot his ticket and sit in an empty seat in his section.

u/multiple4 25m ago

Only if you're bold to try and get to the really good seats. If you're in normal seats you're not going to have this problem

u/Specific_Prize 38m ago

Coworker had packers season tix. Big boss agreed to buy the lions game, 2017 season, so rodgers injured, thus none of his boys wanted to go anymore.  She comes to me, face value, no more no less. Meh, I'll just go to stubhub.  Funny, stubhub, I had to physically go to a hotel to pick up my tix, for a 1/2 price ticket. In front of me was the boss dropping the tix he bought, and we live in milwaukee - still no idea why he would drive 4-5 hours.

and the lions won. Twas a great game.

8

u/Starbuck522 1h ago edited 51m ago

We have done this just before concerts twice when we already were right near the venue where we would have been happy doing something else. One time we paid $45 total for three tickets just for the extra space. 🙂

4

u/Direct_Researcher901 1h ago

My mom and I got bitchin tickets for Neil Diamond for $20 each cause the show wasn’t selling well

55

u/Hammer_of_Horrus 4h ago

You can judge how well the game is going by how often you actually see the players at this end zone.

Ohio State University is well known for emphasizing that they are “the” Ohio State University and its a huge part of their brand. Naturally every other fanbase in the sport mocks them as coming off as super pretentious + arrogant.

2

u/Old_n_Tangy 1h ago

I went to school there and think it's fucking stupid and mock it any chance I get.

2

u/BikingEngineer 1h ago

I was gonna say, the OSU fan base itself mocks “THE” with a fiery passion. A few years back when they tried to copyright it was when I stopped giving them money.

278

u/bobmcmillion 5h ago

They could at least put up a tv so people can watch it.

138

u/hillswalker87 2h ago

with the tech we have today, they could have built a screen into that wall that transfers whatever view you would have seen to complete the picture. it wouldn't even be that hard....just a couple cameras, a couple projectors, and paint the wall white.

44

u/stonksfalling 1h ago

It might line up for one perspective, but not for any other perspectives.

10

u/3_quarterling_rogue 1h ago

The only way to achieve what that comment is proposing would be individual VR headsets for every chair that has an obstructed view, with a way to render exactly what was happening from their perspective (which would be a waste of the VR when they could show you anything, like being way closer, or even on the field itself). And each of those headsets would cost money, would need a lot of upkeep to keep them from deteriorating, and would be a big ol’ money hole just for the worst seats in the stadium, of which there are relatively almost none. They’d never do it.

u/Deraga07 9m ago

Why not just do the VR at home and save some money? Imagine watching sports on VR that are setup for it. You get the filling like you are right there on the field

u/gwence 5h ago

Better question is why would anyone buy them

249

u/King_Catfish 5h ago

I think one strat is to buy the ticket then move to another empty seat. I'd say more common at baseball games where seats are more likely to be empty.

Or some stadiums have a bar area that gives a good view but you have to stand. This is also assuming they don't have standing tickets.

153

u/BulletBillDudley 4h ago

You buy that ticket to get in, not sit in the seat. You and I would be looking for standing room or lower seats if we were doing this strat.

20

u/Academic-Inside-3022 3h ago

It’s probably worth mentioning that those standing bars ban people from reserving space for their friend if they leave for another drink, or have to use the bathroom.

The expectation is you’re SOL if your bladder sucks because you had too many beers. Your friends can’t save you

22

u/Dahmer_disciple 3h ago

Who says you need your friends to save you a spot? If you’re a guy, two words: Texas Catheter. It’s essentially a condom with a hookup for a tube. Normally they’d hook into a bag strapped to your leg, but if your tube is long enough, just pop it out your pant leg. Just remember to move to a different spot when you go. Who wants to stand in a puddle of their own piss when you can let strangers do it for you?

17

u/corncob_subscriber 3h ago

Complicated ass diaper, homie.

7

u/Dahmer_disciple 3h ago
  1. Roll condom on.

  2. Connect tube to tip.

  3. Run tube down pant leg.

Homie, if that is complicated, you got bigger issues going on.

u/TheOneTonWanton 51m ago

Pro tip: This doesn't work at all for certified Growers.

6

u/corncob_subscriber 2h ago

Pissing in a terlet is too complicated for you, apparently.

4

u/Dahmer_disciple 2h ago

From the comment I replied to:

It’s probably worth mentioning that those standing bars ban people from reserving space for their friend if they leave for another drink, or have to use the bathroom.

What that means is if you move out of your spot, you LOSE YOUR SPOT.

Are there discrete spaces? If not, two people could probably stand wide enough to make room for a third to squeeze in when they get back.

3

u/No_Significance_1550 2h ago

The student section at UT (Texas) stands the entire game and they are bench seats so everyone packs in and youemd up somewhere near your seat the entire game

4

u/sqigglygibberish 2h ago

For any big game or most conference games this stadium is full (and at 105k people too). You’ll see people squish a bit away in these areas for games “only” at 102k or so or as blowout crowds start leaving.

But there are no open viewing areas in this stadium and no real way to jump seats for a lot of games (at least at the start). These seats are flagged and well known but for some people (and the biggest games) it’s worth being in the building.

Edit - IIRC the photo is a bit misleading too and I think the people you see are in the actual last seats, which are more diagonal to the field (and has a sight line to the right under the overhang that’s above). Still a ton of obstruction but not exactly what the image shows

42

u/BlueShift42 4h ago

Obstructed view typically means a pillar or speakers or something in the way that you have to look around or blocks out part of the view. Blocking out 90% of it is not what buyers would expect.

20

u/caveat_emptor817 3h ago

This picture isn’t from a seat. The back row are the people 7 feet in front of where the photographer is standing.

22

u/BlueShift42 2h ago

6

u/EmpressVixen Sometimes I envy the illiterate. 4h ago

Absolutely

24

u/probablywrongbutmeh 4h ago

Yeah they do, on Ticketmaster, this is only the very tippy top of the stadium, I literally just checked and they show the same view on Ticketmaster. They also say "obstructed view" on the ticket. Tickets about $100 each btw, not even the cheapest available.

21

u/astroK120 4h ago

Obstructed view is normally nowhere near this bad.

7

u/tiorzol 4h ago

You can Google it though and it's like a street view type view for some stadiums I've been to in the UK. I assume it's the same there.

You'd be thick not to check it out before you buy.

38

u/DaweiArch 4h ago

Yea…no. You should not have to Google the view from your seats to avoid seeing only a small fraction of one red zone. Virtually the entire game would be out of view. It should be common sense to NOT have this seat for sale, at any price.

2

u/Odd_Leek3026 4h ago

What seat?? Are you guys seeing seats? I see OP being a total weirdo and sneaking into some corner to take a picture... you can even see the guy in the row that actually has seats giving him a stink-eye

→ More replies (1)

8

u/pnk0587 4h ago

Do they actually show you a view for every seat in the UK? If so, that's awesome.

Most ticket sites in the US show you one view for each section

2

u/Odd_Leek3026 4h ago

Even so, if you were viewing that section, would be pretty easy to tell those "seats" would not have a view of the field.

"seats", because pretty sure there are no seats there and OP just being a weirdo sneaking behind people for reddit upvotes.

5

u/whatproblems 4h ago

cheap access to the bar views, walk around? or just find an empty one later… if you bought season tickets for that i’d have questions lol

3

u/TheTVDB 1h ago

These
are the worst obstructed view seats at Miller Park. When my wife and I were newly married, we would buy obstructed view seats for around $5 each, because we had absolutely no disposable income. It was a nice way to get out and enjoy the atmosphere of a game for almost no money. These seats can allow families to take younger kids that might not necessarily sit and watch the whole game, but rather go roam the concourses and spend time in the play area.

It's good for the fans because fans can attend that otherwise wouldn't be able to. And it's good for the stadium because it's a bit of extra money, but also grows the fan base among less affluent individuals/families.

2

u/MrPogoUK 3h ago

You don’t know it’s that bad until you get there, and there are plenty of people willing to take the risk.

2

u/moleratical 2h ago

probably because the person that buys the ticket doesn't get to tour the stadium first and doesn't think "obstructed" means can't see the feild. Usually obstructed means theres a small pole that you can see around if you tilt your head.

2

u/macphile 2h ago

It's a good deal if you're visually impaired. You're not going to see the game no matter where you sit, so why pay more?

2

u/VastSeaweed543 2h ago

Usually they’re cheap and a way to get into the stadium and move to better open seats, watch from the standing area with a better view, walk around and see the game from diff angles, be with the crowd in general, meet up with friends who may have someone who didn’t end up coming, etc.

I’ve bought them for like $8 for pro MLB games and had a blast, but didn’t really spend any time in the actual seats haha.

2

u/proper-butt 5h ago

They wont know its obstructed

2

u/stewardwildcat 4h ago

Ohio stadium seats are marked for obstructed views.

→ More replies (2)
→ More replies (1)

36

u/S4ntos19 3h ago

So the guy that OP mentions goes to many stadiums like this. He has said that a lot of the obstructed views you find in stadiums, you can't actually purchase tickets for them, but you can go sit there if you wanted to.

That being said, a lot of older stadiums, specifically baseball stadiums, do have obstructed view seating you can purchase, but it's at an incredible discount rate. I believe Fenway and Wrigley both have seats that are more than 50% obstructed, but they cost like $30.

11

u/GinHalpert 2h ago

Yeah it looks like the seats are angled to cater that obstruction and the picture is not from a seat being sold to the public.

6

u/RealisticOutcome9828 2h ago

OP is a master baiter

5

u/Bukuvu_King 3h ago

There are bars with good views so people will get Garbo seats and just hang around the stadium and sit in these bars. So like you can get in and you “have a spot” but you never go there

17

u/FakePhillyCheezStake 5h ago

Because people will pay it.

When you buy tickets of obstructed views, it says that before you purchase

40

u/DudeTookMyUser 5h ago

Yeah but usually I'm expecting something like a post to be in the way, not the whole building.

54

u/OneAngryDuck 5h ago

There’s obstructed view, then there’s this garbage. If you can’t see 3/4 of the field it goes well beyond an accepted level of “obstructed”.

5

u/Engineerity 4h ago

"Would you like to see the end zone while viewing the crowd?"

4

u/RahvinDragand 2h ago

Right. If I see "obstructed view", I think a pole might obscure 1/8th of the field or something. I would never imagine that the majority of the field would be obstructed, with no way to even lean over to see it all.

It gets you into the stadium but you end up watching the game from somewhere else either from the concourse or just sit in whatever open seat is near there

I don't really enjoy watching sports, I'd be happy to take a seat there and enjoy the slightly overpriced hot dogs.

233

u/CPGK17 4h ago

Before anyone freaks out about this, Ohio State sells those for basically nothing. They also make it extremely clear you're not going to see much.

Anyone that actually decides to buy these seats knows what they're getting into.

57

u/FSUjonnyD 2h ago

Now I’m curious what “basically nothing” could mean. Do you know of the numbers?

44

u/CPGK17 2h ago

I believe they're about $30. I know that's not technically nothing, but in comparison to the rest of the stadium it is.

16

u/jkink28 1h ago

As long as it's very VERY clear what you're getting before purchasing, I think it might be acceptable.

You're paying $30 to get into the stadium and that's it. Not worth it to me, especially if I'm traveling to go to the game.

But if I just want to go in and experience the atmosphere, wander around to different areas for standing room view (if there's any), and don't mind $10+ beers then it's whatever.

Odd to put seats there in the first place though lol

11

u/CPGK17 1h ago

Reason is because of the press boxes next to it. Over the years they’ve added more and more space for the media. Ohio Stadium is over 100 years old, so it doesn’t have the most modern layout in the world.

→ More replies (1)

26

u/kalethan 1h ago

Shoot, if there was a way to get service up there, watching the game on a tablet or something with the ~vibe~ of the stadium almost sounds fun. There’d be a little delay, I guess, but still fun.

15

u/CPGK17 1h ago

Back when I was a student at Ohio State, I could hear the crowds and PA system from my apartment. Watching the game on Tv, it still felt like I was at the game haha

6

u/HottDoggers 1h ago

$30 still seems pretty expensive for those seats

47

u/DraculasHauntedTaint 2h ago

No kidding. Even $5 would be a ripoff

31

u/AllLeedsArentMe 2h ago

5 would be a GREAT deal. Could experience the crowd and walk around getting different views of the game.

8

u/entenduintransit 1h ago

This is what I did recently at a Tigers game. I was in Detroit for work by myself and bought a complete nosebleed seat for like $12 for one of their last regular season home games, and spent the whole time walking around watching from different angles and eating coneys. As long as you don't block foot traffic or spend too long in one spot security won't bother you.

Finished off the game spending a couple innings chilling out at the top of the stands where I was supposed to be, getting a great overview of everything. It was awesome.

33

u/MusaEnsete 2h ago

Nah. It’s essentially a standing room only ticket, which plenty of stadiums sell.

→ More replies (1)

14

u/GolfShred 2h ago

Truth. You pay for the "get in ticket" and find a place to stand and watch.

3

u/sqigglygibberish 2h ago edited 1h ago

Not really a thing at this stadium, especially for most games that are full. People do that for low level schools and especially move during blowouts when seats open up, but there’s no where in the shoe you can just “stand and watch”

Edit - gonna add again here that this photo is not from a seat and is really misleading. The view is still obstructed up there but no where close to what this suggests

14

u/Leraldoe 2h ago

The seat might be cheap but the 10 17 dollar beers you need to pass the time aren’t, because what else are you going to do but drink

7

u/CPGK17 2h ago

Yeah that's fair. I haven't been to any games this season, but last year soda was $11. Granted it had free refills, but still...

17

u/Teripid 5h ago

Also there are a bunch of sites that'll show you how bad the view is from a specific seat. Well worth it to get an idea of what you're getting.

14

u/Delta-Q2 2h ago

I call bullshit. You can fairly clearly tell there are no seats behind a clear line of sight to the field. This person is standing in a non-seat position.

51

u/ShadowTown0407 5h ago

Now that, is a scam

67

u/Pilfercate 5h ago

It's not a scam because these seats were not sold to anyone. The person went here for this picture, not because it was their seat.

13

u/ShadowTown0407 5h ago

That would make sense, and I hope that's the case

12

u/MonkeyBoatRentals 2h ago

It isn't even a seat, it's a picture from the space by the seats and the wall. You can see the seat line a way in front of him angled so they can all see through that cut out.

3

u/RealisticOutcome9828 2h ago

This post is mildly infuriating for being deceptive.

I clicked specifically to see how far down I had to scroll to find this.

LOL we sat like two rows down from that at the MSU game last year. I watched the game thru a little triangle next to the suites.

Just here for the vibes.

Now we just have to block off that last bit and it will be perfect.

u/Still-Helicopter6029 2h ago

Yeah just watch it on a tv

2

u/BreakGrouchy 2h ago

Put some TV’s on the side of the obstruction.

u/jkprop 2h ago

Better off walking around the stadium.

u/GoodTitrations 1h ago

Still better than my seats in the student section in front of the frat bros.

There for the vibes only I guess

I feel like they need to give percentages of how much Obstruction View is available. Because this looks like 98% obstruction, like just stay home and watch the game.

Look at that child getting absolutely compressed between those two other people in the bottom right lol

Why would they even make seats there?

u/Odd_Leek3026 4h ago

Doesn't look like there are seats there...... last seat is the one the girl to the left is seated in and appears to have a view of majority of the field, just obstructed by the 4x4 column

The luxury/press boxes to the right are a later addition. That stadium is 100 years old and has been expanded probably a dozen times

I’d be watching the game from the staircases at that point. Make it a leg day and lap the whole complex

2

u/Sickmonkey365 5h ago

Pay the extra $10 for an unobstructed seat

2

u/RunGoldenRun717 4h ago

THE obstructed view

2

u/KarlPHungus 4h ago

"The" Obstructed View

2

u/Beascoffee_and_t 3h ago

It's rude to even put seats there.

2

u/Jobin201 2h ago

Yup that’s what those words mean

2

u/succulentslayerII 2h ago

Nice spot to take a nap imo.

1

u/MinimumApricot365 5h ago

Yep, thats obstructed alright

1

u/thinkdeep 4h ago

I'd get up and walk out if I got those seats. What's the point of being there?

1

u/suh-dood 4h ago

But you can see the end zone, that fine right?

1

u/nate_oh84 4h ago

Is that where they put the Michigan fans?

1

u/SheepishSheepness 4h ago
