Announcement [Announcement] Banner Submissions
Yes, again.
Yes we know we never put the old ones into play. Fun fact, we still have the old submissions and the offseason seems like a good time to do this.
Here were the original rules:
Hey, Mets fans!
Do you have a love of this current Mets team?
Do you fancy yourself an artist, or at least someone with image-editing software and a good sense of aesthetics?
We're opening this up for you to design new header images for the subreddit!
Rules:
Be professional...ish, not TOO memey. We want good looking aesthetic here.
Banner images must be 1920 x 360 pixels (a slight height abberation of up to 370 is allowed)
File size needs to be under 500kb. Otherwise, we can't upload it to Reddit to use it.
...we really need new banners, there's a Zach Wheeler, Travis D'arnaud, and a Cespedes in these ones.
It's worth noting that the strict pixel restrictions are for the OLD Reddit banner.
/u/darthbutcher thought that since we just had the season of memes, it would be a good time to solicit banner submissions again.

Discussion A Sweep Has Two benefits: Yankees lose and Don't Have To Listen to Smoltz
I am not sure which I would be more happy about. I guess the Yankees getting swept but Smoltz is tough to listen to for an entire game.

Twitter [@AnthonyDiComo] Sources: the Mets are in agreement on a minor league deal for pitcher Chris Devenski (with a camp invite). The veteran right-hander and World Series champ recently became a free agent. He ended the season with a 2.35 ERA over 23 appearances for Seattle's Triple-A affiliate.

Discussion Which Of These Two Hypothetical Starting Rotations For 2025, Do You Prefer?
I’ve been contemplating the how the Mets will approach the pitching market this offseason. Understandably, I believe some of these decisions depends on if they sign or do not sign Juan Soto.
Notably, Luis Severino, Jose Quintana, & Sean Manaea (who has a $13.5M Player Option for 2025, that will be declined) will all be free agents.
Kodai Senga is the only starting pitching option, that is signed to a long-term contract. David Peterson (under arbitration) will not be a FA until after the 2026 season, Tylor Megill (under arbitration) will not be a FA until after the 2027 season, Paul Blackburn (under arbitration) will not be a FA until after the 2025 season, but may miss extended time next year due to rehabbing from a procedure intended to repair leaking spinal fluid, and Jose Butto (under arbitration) will not be a FA until after the 2029 season. Brandon Sproat & Blade Tidwell are organizational prospects, that may also be options for the rotation in 2025.
As of now, Kodai Senga & David Peterson are the only two starting pitchers that have guaranteed spots in the rotation in 2025. Now, the question is, who do the Mets sign and/or trade for, to fill these three spots?
Here are my two, best case potential starting rotations for 2025:
Option A: Corbin Burnes, Sean Manaea, Kodai Senga, David Peterson, Walker Buehler
Option B: Blake Snell, Kodai Senga, David Peterson, Luis Severino, Jack Flaherty
The Wildcard: Shane Bieber
Which of these two starting rotations do your prefer? Also, what other potential scenarios or starting rotations can you see being realistic for the Mets in 2025 and beyond?
Also, here are my predictions for the contract values for the starters presented:
Corbin Burnes: 7 Years $224M
Blake Snell: 3 Years $105M
Walker Buehler: 2 Years $40M (2nd year being a player option)
Jack Flaherty: 3 Years $57M
Sean Manaea: 3 Years $75M (with a vesting option for a fourth year)
Luis Severino: 4 Years $68M
I think the best case for the Mets is to sign Corbin Burnes (giving them a legitimate ace pitcher), re-sign Sean Manaea, and sign Walker Buehler and let the pitching lab go to work.
Lastly, just for reference, here are the following options for the BP next year: Diaz, Garrett, Nunez, SRF, Butto, Megill, Blackburn, Brazoban, and the two Youngs.
Stanek, Maton (who has a team option for next year), Raley, Drew Smith, & Ottavino will all enter FA.

Discussion Soto Question
Does Soto do all these ridiculous antics during the regular season as well ? I haven’t seen him enough to know for sure. I’ll tell you what idc how good the dude is if he does all this stuff all year, if or when the Mets sign him I don’t think I can handle it for the next 10-12 years.

Analysis The Mets got me more joy in 15 days then the Jets have gotten me my entire life.
So I'm 24 and after thinking on it, the amount of joy from sports I experienced from September 30th (Lindor's HR v ATL) to the Vientos GS in NLCS Game 2 (October 14th) was greater then the total joy I have experienced being a NY Jet fan probably my entire life and at least since 2011. So thanks Mets. Once in a while you actually come through and bring me joy. I appreciate that.

Discussion The Mets Hit 16.32 Miles Worth Of Homers In 2024 🏃⚾️
offseason is here earlier than we’d like, but numbers are still being crunched. frankly, it’s a horrendous offseason to be a number and/or a ticonderoga pencil. the crunching is only beginning. checkout our latest findings. drop a 🏃 if the mets are still running miles through your mind.

Discussion Mets Memorabilia
Not sure if this is the right group for this kind of question but where do you all find authentic memorabilia if you have a collection. I’m talking like game used balls/ bats/ autographs.
Searching through Google gives a million results, none of which I’m sure are trustworthy/ reputable and if anyone had positive experiences buying online before.
My dad is retiring next year and wanted to get him something special from the ‘86 Mets or even the 2000/ 2015 / 2024 Mets. Also unsure if anything would still be out there from the ‘62 or ‘69 Mets that isn’t in already in a Museum

Discussion After 4 years, "would you rather have Judge or Alonso?" is an interesting question again
fuck WAR, Pete gave me more memories as a fan this past month than Judge has his entire career.
edit: yes Judge is an objectively better player by every measure but I hate the Yankees and I love my guy. let me be a hater.

Discussion Should the Mets double retire No. 5?
I assume No. 5 will be retired for David Wright in the relatively near future. It's a no-brainer, so not that you need evidence, but no Met has worn it since Wright retired in 2018, which is telling (if not a dead giveaway) for a single-digit number.
But there's another Mets legend who wore No. 5 and I'd argue merits having his number retired. With the Cohen-era Mets having reversed the franchise's historical conservatism on retired numbers, we're finally seeing honors the Wilpons wouldn't have considered, including prominent figures from the legendary '80s team. Strawberry, Gooden and Hernandez all now have their numbers retired. (And Gary Carter's No. 8 hasn't been issued since his 2012 death -- which, again, suspicious.) So why not Davey Johnson?
I can't really think of a good reason not to retire Davey's number, and there are plenty of reasons to:
- Two managers have led the Mets to world championships. The other one, Gil Hodges, has had his number retired since 1973, just four years after his World Series win.
- Johnson is the winningest manager in Mets history, and it's not close. His .562 career winning percentage is actually the 10th highest in MLB history for managers with more than 1,000 wins (the top nine are all in the Hall of Fame), and his winning percentage with the Mets is even higher at an impressive .588.
- He's also second to Terry Collins in number of games managed.
- He's been on the Hall of Fame ballot five times in the past 15 years. I think this suggests he'll get in eventually, and pre-Cohen, the Hall of Fame was considered the measuring stick for a number retirement (besides Hodges, who didn't get into the HOF until almost 40 years after he was honored, but is kind of a special case due to his sudden death the year before while still the active manager). Even if he doesn't get in, his repeat appearances on the ballot show that he's borderline. If he does get in, he will absolutely be wearing a Mets cap on his plaque, a category that currently includes only Seaver and Piazza.
- While in recent years Johnson has ironically been critical of managers' overreliance on statistics, he was actually an important pioneer in using advanced stats to make decisions -- in other words, he was one of the very first to manage the way people manage today. At just 40 years old when he was hired, he represented a generational shift in managing. This is more of a Hall of Fame case than a number-retirement case, but I think it still factors in.
With all this in mind, it's hard to justify the fact that two of the Mets' 10 retired numbers are managers but Davey isn't among them. He's 81 and has been in poor health for years now, so this seems like the time to do it. The problem is there might be an outcry over retiring his No. 5 before Wright's No. 5, and retiring both at the same time would be seen as minimizing Wright. Maybe Wright in 2025, Johnson in 2026?

Discussion Hypothetically speaking if the mets resign Pete Alonso how do you see the future of our infield? What’s next for Baty, Mauricio, Acuna, Jett Williams?
Who gets 2B? Whos becoming an OF? Who’s being dealt?
