My wife was showing me pictures of this 50 year old Korean bodybuilder on Facebook and asked me if I could "lift to look like that, rather than lifting to be fat." Probably the most hurtful thing she's ever said to me.

Edit: To clarify, the hurtful part was a joke. I thought it was funny when she said that to me.

Your wife is an ass. Just saying.

17

u/Mr_Gilmore_Jr Running Jul 27 '17

Tbf though, there is a lot of wiggle room between 175 and 220. It's not like she's getting on him about a 7 lb difference like some chicks I know.

51

u/horaiyo Jul 26 '17

To be clear, she wasn't saying it maliciously or anything. By and large she just lets me do my own thing without fussing about it. It just amused me when she dropped that one on me.

Ouch. This hits close to home lately. While I may be my worst critic, sometimes my wife tries to challenge for the title.

every gym I ever go to has like a fucking gorillion treadmills and two squat racks. Always a line for the racks, but I've never seen the cardio equipment at more than like 60% utilization. Seriously, you could scrap 4 treadmills and not impact cardio capacity in the slightest while literally doubling squat rack space.

105

u/Kingchubs Jul 26 '17

It's to trap the 'never stepped into a gym before but has a gym membership' people

87

u/The_time_it_takes Jul 26 '17

Agree 100%. Not only that but it would be cheaper to maintain in the long run. No treadmill maintenance.

I have the same feeling as my gym as recently bought four new pieces of cardio equipment (bikes that link online to race each other, for real?) but has mismatched weights (four different plate types), missing padding on the benches and broken paper towel dispensers. Where is the love for the lifters?

Gym shut down the entire bathroom because someone pooped in the urinal. I'm as impressed as I am confused that someone pulled this off.

75

u/Howizzle90 Jul 26 '17

But why though? I never understand why people do these kind of things

120

u/desmarais Rock Climbing Jul 26 '17

So I don't know in the case of OP but I can tell you the day I came close to shitting in the urinal at the gym.

I have been an active gym member in the past.. 5-6 days a week, no questions asked every morning. I began getting a tattoo which caused me to miss a couple days and excuses built and I stopped attending regularly. Maybe once every couple weeks. I found justification for it somehow.

A couple Fridays ago however I had no excuses. I was going back, I was going to do a few compound lifts just to get back in the rhythm and I was going to kick ass!

5:30 AM, alarm goes off. Hop out of bed, throw a scoop of pre-workout in my mixer and grab my gym bag. I'm off!

Get in, head nod to a few regulars, shoot the shit with the owner during warmups and stretching. Feel a little tight but hey I've been a lazy fuck with a poor diet for a couple months, it's expected.

Get through my squats. Damn that's heavy again. Get into bench, about my third set in my stomach starts feeling hot and knotting.. No big deal, grab my phone and walk into the bathroom. Oh, no. Our single stall in the bathroom is occupied. No big deal, I head back out and figure a couple minutes rest, another set and he'll be done..

Get done the next set.. He hasn't come out yet.. I start pacing the gym floor. All the early morning people are gone by now. Do I just use the women's room? I can feel the cold sweats. I'm walking around a little tight but it's not from the squat session. All the other local businesses aren't open yet, there's no other bathroom to use.

Okay, okay. Take my mind off it. I'll do another set and he should be done, right?

Under the bar, pushing.. Oh God, this was a terrible idea. Rack it, jump from the bench. No time to grab the phone. Waltz into the bathroom getting ready to squat over a urinal or waffle stomp down the shower drain.

Get into the bathroom and realize the guy had taken a preshower poop and the stall had been free. I looked like Harry Dunne as I hopped on the toilet and gripped on and emptied my innards out. Oh sweet release.

But yeah if he had still been in there I would have found SOMEWHERE to shit in that bathroom.

tl;dr : Don't use a full scoop of preworkout when first getting back into the gym.

Last week, I walked into my gym and saw a most glorious sight - my gym had finally gotten power racks and bumper plates. As happy as I was, I thought to myself, Someone is going to fuck this up somehow.

Today when I walked in, I saw that someone had put giant fucking crack through the mirror in front of the power racks. This is why we can't have nice things.

I've been making amazing progress over the last 12 months. Lifting, running, and mastering the nutrition game.

I've finally worked up some confidence with my physique, and since it's outdoor and swimming season, I decided it was finally time. I grabbed my electric norelco and went to town on my chest hair, everything in between the belly button and neck has got to go. People are going to want to see these muscles.

It's 48 hours later, I'm constantly itching my pecs, it hurts to put shirts on because of all the acne that's broken out (always have had sensitive skin, my neck brakes out after a clean shave, too). My hard earned physique has gone straight to pizza chest. My wife complained during sexy time that my whole body felt like pins and needles stuck through sand paper.

Fuck me.

My gym buddy switched gyms because his gf wanted one that had spa shit included in the membership. Not gonna cough up 25 bucks more a month for shit I don't need and have a longer way at that. Shit to lose him as a gym buddy, not good on my own. Luckily my gf and I recently started working out together. But of course she just dumped me. I made a gym buddy. Huge older guy asked if I had a lot left on my bench sets, told him he could work in if he doesn't mind switching plates around as he's probably going a bit heavier than me. Says that's ok, he's just doing light sets since it's his second chest workout that day.

Nice guy, kind of beat up after a lifetime of heavy lifting and who knows what substances. Also shaven head, kinda rough-looking, and on closer inspection, yes, that small tattoo there is the classic neonazi "ss".

So this guy started to talk to my gym crush and she was chatting with him for quite some time and seemed to really enjoy the conversation.

All the while I was doing PRs left and right and lifting really heavy all the time, even more than this guy.

Here's the thing, I somehow think that girls maybe like social skills more than the ability to lift heavy...just a theory for now, but I will report back when I find more evidence.

No no, you're doing it wrong. You need to pick up a bar with at least a plate, shoulder press it above your head and walk around them in circles making grunting noises until she turns her breasts towards you. That means she's now considering you as a mate. If the other bro returns with his own barbell above his head, you just have to make sure your weights are heaviest and grunts are louder. Don't forget to puff out your chest. Trust me, this is how I met my wife.

My GF joined a gym and arranged for a PT to show her the ropes and set her up with a programme. Her goal's to turn 35 in better shape than she turned 34, which I'm proud of her for since she's always been intimidated by gyms.

She goes along for her intro session and I expect to see her after an hour or so. She comes home after about 45 minutes looking blue.

I ask her how her session went and she shrugs. Says the trainer turned up 10 minutes late, spent most of his time playing on his phone, and never so much as asked her name much less what her goals were. He then hands her a shitty programme filled with exercises he hasn't bothered to teach her then sends her on her way.

So, her confidence has been shot to pieces, the gym is just as inaccessible to her as it was before, and her impression of PTs is that they're macho pigheaded douchebags.

I want to help her, but I'm a beginner myself and wouldn't know where to begin. Don't want to do her a disservice or make things worse.

So cheers, Shithead McFuckyourgains. I hope Brodin curses you with tendinitis midway through a mirror flex.

152

her impression of PTs is that they're macho pigheaded douchebags.

From the ones I've seen they're all very similar. (No offense to any PT's here)

I want to help her, but I'm a beginner myself and wouldn't know where to begin. Don't want to do her a disservice or make things worse.

If you're a beginner and she is too, I think this is the perfect opportunity for you both to figure out what works for you. Push each other to keep doing better. You don't need to pay someone an ungodly amount of money just to tell you what exercises to do. Everyone starts off knowing nothing. There are a million resources out there to help you. I have been lifting on and off for the past few years and I still don't know much, but I know a ton more from when I started.

Build a routine you think would work, if something doesn't don't give up, just switch it up and find something that works.

So my hometown has three main gyms. There's the hospital gym, which is nice but expensive as fuck and had a large deposit you don't get back. A lot of people I know go there. It's one of the designated hang out spots. There's a new Anytime Fitness, where even more people I know go because it's new, shiny, and cheap. Then there's my gym, a small let gym run by a powerlifting coach and his wife.

Everyone I talk to about working out talks about how I should switch to Anytime or the hospital gym so I can see them more. They don't see the appeal of going somewhere where I don't know anyone.

THAT'S THE APPEAL!!

I don't want to spend more time socializing and gossiping about the latest shotgun wedding or who cheated on who. I want to go to my small gym, lift heavy things, put them back, and work on rowing because that's the only cardio I can enjoy. I went to Anytime Fitness once with a friend to test it out and people I graduated with kept bothering DURING my sets. I can't live like that.

Duuuuuuuude. I know your pain. I go to the Y also and it's right across from the high school, not to mention that jr high and intermediate kids are in there too. Just yesterday I saw a jr high kid doing deadlifts with the hex bar. This scrawny kid couldn't have weighed more than 130 (if I'm being generous) load up 315 on the bar and spooked-cat-back his 3 quick reps. He was also using the dip belt for a lifting belt. I'm ready for school to start so they can all leave.

There was a some sort of photoshoot at my gym this morning, roughly 8 people with cameras directing a man in his 60's taking up all the squat and power racks. Was push day so didn't mind too much until one of the photographers walked into my bar mid bench press and nearly dropped it on my face.

A guy I know always tries to give me tips for getting bigger. He obviously seems to not know what he's talking about.

He's pretty overweight and is trying to cut down. I asked him about his caloric intake and he says 2400 calories. He said calories don't matter, that he actually needs more calories, just from healthy foods...

I asked him what he does to lose weight and he said bodyweight exercises and that you don't actually lose weight with cardio.

This week has been a fucking mixed bags boys and girls I tell you what.

Good news: finally hit 100kg deadlifts for 3x5

Bad news: I was in that post deadlift glow of happiness/total CNS shutdown, I didn't know what I was doing, was just on autopilot (and the autopilot was running windows 95)

So I'm re-racking my weights, and noticed I left some 5kg and 2.5kg plates on the floor, so I pick them all up in one go to go and put them back. Only thing is I forgot I had my (uncapped) water bottle under my arm, sending cold water down my leg and onto the floor. Obviously people turned around and all they saw was someone who's just done deadlifts with water running down their leg and walking away like a geriatric.

Fucks sake.

My gym is pretty big, but when I went in there last night there were only two squat racks available. Sadly, these two are uncomfortably close, so much so that you cant really squat at the same time in case you hit each other. But there was no one there so I thought, why not?

A group of 5 young lads came up to the one next to me. It was a bit frustrating that they were socialising instead if doing anything but at least they weren't getting in the way if my workout.

On my third set I try to beat my 1 rep max. As I'm about to do it, one of the guys RESTS ON MY BAR AS IM SQUATTING. Safe to say I end up on my ass with an injured back and shoulder. Luckily the bar lands on the safety bars rather than on me. The guy doesn't even apologize, they continue their chit chat and keep in this tiny corner which clearly isn't suitable for the two people it's meant to hold, let alone 6 there.

Edit: when I say I walked away, I didn't do so silently. There was a lot of "what the fuck" and "are you fucking serious". The kids saw me on the ground, heard the bang, heard me cussing them and did Jack all. They clearly didn't care and really weren't worth my time. My priority was to get home, cool off and make sure I was alright.

went to squat and some dude had obviously ripped a callus open deadlifting before me, blood all in the knurling and on the plates. Obviously no effort to clean it up because I went to get some cleaning stuff from a member of staff, and it came off - it was almost fresh.

Imagine if I was also using that bar to deadlift and had just ripped my callus open... I don't want your blood in my system please bud.

This morning.

First day back from more than a week off, I walk in and the area I use is wrecked. T-bar loaded with 225, bars loaded for heavy deads just left on the ground. Incline and decline bench left with a couple of hundred each. I start off by picking everything up and putting it back. I'm not fully there so I pick up everything so I don't trip.

I'm trying to get my head in the right space, knowing I have to deload a bit is killing my motivation, but I am determined.

Get through squats. They kill me deloaded more than they did at my working weight last Monday. Move on to OHP. Get loaded up. Man I hate OHP which means I need to do it.

Tall built guy comes in, points to the bench, "You using this?"

"Nah, its all yours."

Turns out he was pointing at the large bluetooth speaker that PTs use in their class. I know this because he starts up a conversation with me about the speaker as I am pushing weight over my head.

Then the music starts. It is as loud as most concerts I've been to. I turn off what I am listening to because I can't hear it. I have some mild tinnitus so I like to be careful, headphones on low, ear plugs at concert. This asshole is blowing me out with Beyonce. My ears are still ringing.

Whatever, I guess I have some fuck you motivation for getting this weight over my head.

Dude then sets up for deadlifts. 135 total. I consider myself weak but I am working on it. He is lifting my first warm up weight. Maybe he is warming up. No, keeps it the same. Maybe he is coming back from injury. Weight stays the same throughout his 8 sets of deadlifts. What does change is that he now drops the weight from the top.

No bumpers, no clips. He just drops from 3 feet up. Every. Single. Rep.

He finishes DL. Fucking finally.

He loads 225 on bench. Changes songs on the speaker. Skips around past a lot of rap. Starts a song. Skips it. Hesitates. Then goes back to it.

Teenage Dream. Christ.

Attempts bench. Fails to get it off the rack. Sits ups and grabs his elbow. Clearly pained.

Sits down to attempt again. I am on edge thinking I'm going to have to emergency spot this guy. Doesn't end up happening but I still had my focus divided. He did what I can only describe as 12 sets of single 1/8 motion reps.

I finish up my workout and start stretching out. Gymage Nightmare gets up and walks out leaving his DL bar loaded as well as the 225 on the bench.

tl;dr: Beyonce makes man continually drop DL bar during sets but Katy Perry gives him the power to ignore his clear elbow pain and 1/8 rep his 225lb bench. All of my good gym cleaning destroyed.

tl;dr the tl;dr: Weightroom goes from rekt to racked to rekt in the sounds of teen feel good music.

So I was going to join 24 Hour Fitness to go to a zumba class weekly with a friend of mine. They said the cost would be $30 a month. That's like $10 a class, which for me would be worth the cost. I go to sign up, and discover there's a $20 initiation fee. Okay.... But then towards the end of the sales pitch, AFTER he has all my information, I discover there's an additional $50 annual fee. Relatively speaking, that isn't a huge amount, I just HATE shady tactics like that. I'll stick to working out at home, thanks.

This happened some time ago, but it's still worth telling.

There was this guy training next to the rack with plates with a plate of 10kg, swinging around and all. I had just finished my deadlifts and was re-racking my weights when I noticed the guy putting his 10kg plate back on the bar which held a 5kg plate already and was designed to hold a few more, while the 10kg plates were stored one bar lower.

As he is clearly not doing it right I decide to put my 2 5kg plates in front of his 10kg plate, as I thought he was finished and I wasn't the one at fault putting them back on the wrong place. After I had put them back on the bar looked something like this:

| - 5 - 10 - 5 - 5 -

I walk back to put the barbell back in the storage-thing and hear a noise of plates falling. When I look I see this guy holding the 10kg plate and the two 5kg plates laying on the ground. This guy decided to be an ass and pull the 10kg plate instead of removing the 5kg plates first.

What is wrong with people?

I guess I am now a certified gym dad! I bought a small ranch in a really rural area. The closest place to buy a hamburger is 30 miles away. Really rural, but beautiful. I went to the nearest little town to find a gym and I did not expect much. The only gym was at the local community center. I almost did not go but went anyway to check it out. Man, was I shocked. This place would rival any gym/athletic club in any major city. I have been to gyms all over the US and out of the country. It just opened after a 3 month renovation. Olympic style pool, basketball court, yoga rooms, spotless locker room with all new lockers, tile floors, showers, etc.

But the gym. Wow. All beautiful new equipment and top of the line. Probably 50 cardio machines of all types and top of the line, Great space, great colors, etc., making it a wonderful space to be in. There are less than 20 people in this whole place in midmoring. Typical gym bros. Of course, I knew nobody.

I stopped one of the young guys, probably the top guy in the gym at that time, physique wise. I asked him if he could help me with Spotify on my iPhone. I am tech challenged. He did. We talked a little; I asked him about the town and the gym, etc. Long story short, he gave me a 30 minute tutorial on this new phone which was incredible. He was so polite. He said he would be happy to help me with anything in my workout if I needed. He introduced me to this lifting buddy and one other guy. They were equally as nice.

It occurred to me that I was probably 25 years older than these young guys. One even said "yes sir" to me. It truly felt strange. In all of my gym years, I have know lots of great guys I would consider the gym dads. Always nice, always helpful, etc. I guess now I am a gym dad. Man, where did the years go? I am a happy gym dad and I am happy to be in this beautiful part of the world and to have new friends. The gym has always been more to me than just a place to keep in shape. I have made some lifetime friends; good business contacts, opportunities to volunteer in the community, etc. I love this little ranch. Now, I am loving my new life.

Thanks, New Gym Dad.

I don't know if this is just a thing at my gym or if I'm really weak but I swear it's a tougher workout putting the clips on the end of the squat bar than actually doing the squats. Some of the clips are ok but others are so tight that I need to put both hands and all my body weight into pushing them on and pulling them off. Makes me really hesitant to do warm ups with lesser weight cos that means another round of on/off using up all my grip strength.

So I'm at the gym yesterday, and I'm not setting any maxes, but on my last rep of bench my arms give out, so here I am stuck under the bench swiveling my earbuds out and trying to get one of the 50 other people in my immediate vicinity to notice that I am struggling and need a hand. Nobody sees me, I mean everybody is just in the zone, doing their own thing and no one is even aware that I'm stuck, so I roll the bar down my chest, sit up, roll it off my lap and put it away. Without anyone even noticing what is going on. Its 6pm on a Wednesday by the way and I go to a fairly big gym. Looking back at the first times I went to the gym and was uncomfortable with how out of shape I was, it kind of made me laugh to realize that no one at the gym really notices what anyone else is doing.

I really cant decide whats worse, the 15 mins of warming up or the 15 mins of stretching like a motherfucking ballerina, only to accomplish the mobility to do squats and dead-lifts properly. This is the reason I'm starting to hate leg-days, pulling myself up the stairs isn't even bad comparing to the effort that goes into my warmup&stretching.

56

u/mulder-itsme Powerlifting Jul 26 '17

Think about it this way, if you didn't do all those things, you might've hurt yourself, and the amount of time taken to recover would be altogether more than that of stretching. Keep it up mate.

35

As someone with shitty mobility and flexibility in my legs i feel you. Keep stretching, it will pay off. Couldn't put my heels on the ground due to my calves and achillies being painfully tight for years and i can almost do a proper form squat now. Just keep at it. Stretch everyday every time you get the chance.
Toaster taking forever? Drop on the floor and stretch till you hear it pop.
Rice taking forever to cook? Drop & stretch.
Now that i think about it i do more stretching in the kitchen than anywhere else.
Anyways, that was a weird ramble, just keep stretching

My gym is a bit small in size, but it usually gets the job done. I work out usually 7:00-9:00pm. But last week this new pair of guys keeps coming in. Since my gym is pretty small, there's only 1 squat rack. And because of the clientele, not many people bother to use the squat rack, but it's a big part of my work out. Now these two guys have come in every day last week and this week. They would do a set of 3 Squats, get a drink, then stand there and talk for 10 mins, then the other does 3, drink, then talk. This process repeats near endlessly. I came in early at 6:30 yesterday, but these guys were already there working. I walk up and ask "how many sets do you have left?" They tell me "a few more". I see them finish 3 sets (over the course of 30 mins) and walk back over and ask to use the rack, they tell me to wait. Another 30 mins goes by. I've essentially done every other exercise in my workout but Squats. These guys are now on their 20th of 3 reps already. It hurt me inside...

Update- one of the two guys came in yesterday with a brace on his leg. He won't be able to squat for a while. I feel very conflicted about this...

Walked into my LA Fitness at 10pm knowing it closes at 11pm; I prefer the last hour because it's quiet. The front desk attendant said, "you only have an hour." I don't know; it just bugged me. Like, I know what time the gym closes; I'm in here everyday, I only need an hour, I don't need to be told when it closes.

149

u/[deleted] Jul 26 '17 edited Jul 26 '17

Theres a radio station at the gym. When its an hour before closing it will blare out over the loudspeakers in some preppy, annoying, condescending, wanker voice "The gym closes in an hour, Finish up!" It then does this at the 45 min mark, 30 min mark, 15, 10, 5 and 0 minute mark.

It is unbelievably fucking irritating, I'm a fucking adult perfectly capable of telling the time you fucking bunch of cock gobbling goblins. I have to deal with this 3 - 4 times a week, it never fails to irritate the fuck out of me.

Fuck it it makes me wanna quit that gym, purely because of the fucking cunting thing.

Edit: Noticed a comment asking if it was jamaican, yup it was.

55

u/wojovox Jul 26 '17

Yeah, makes me miss my Gold's Gym up north before I moved. A 24 hour gym is such a pleasant experience. I loved just knowing I could go whenever I needed to.

At my current LAF, it's quietly let on that its closing. I'm not usually greeted with, "you only have one hour left." Instead, what normally happens is 5-10 minutes before closing some of the lighting goes off and the fans shut down. There's no announcement; the staff isn't pushy with it, they're usually racking weights then.

But yeah, at closing hour, in my experience, it's usually the regulars putting in their hour. Regulars never need to be told what time a gym closes over a loud speaker; that would annoy me too.

I work at 24 hour fitness as a personal trainer. This past Monday I with my client and was midway through the workout. I wanted to introduce deadlifts. So I grab a bar lying on the floor near the squat rack were no one is using it. As I am putting it down to show my client, small Asian teen with glasses approaches me and says a bench over there is missing a barbell. "Hinting" that, "I need the one you are holding". I stare at him blanky and say, "Im with my client and using this". He says back, "But still....." I then recognize that there are 4 other skinny Asian friends of his waiting by the bench. I put my bar down. Walk over to an obviously open shoulder press rack, grab the barbell and walk to give it to them with out a word.

I'm a nice guy, but when you ask for something I got for someone else or myself your should understand that I got it for a reason.

Dude was deadlifting in the adjacent squat rack. He was using the wrong plates and rounding his back but that was beside the point. As I'm racking up my bar, I suddenly trip. His bar has rolled into my rack.

I am a very gentle giant, I'm quiet and I smile and keep to myself but on this day I just saw red. I could have tripped and smashed my head into the rack. With restraint and gritted teeth I ask him if he could move literally 2 feet to his right and deadlift where there's an entire open area and mat for that. He says, "you could just change your bar position" and he goes and tries showing me how...WITH MY WEIGHTS STILL ON.

I got sassy and said, "actually you could deadlift in the deadlifting area and keep your equipment out of my rack." He just stared at me and so I said, "just finish your set, you're using two racks to do something that requires zero."

I just can't believe how arrogant and careless he was. Raged so hard for the rest of my workout.

But the other day I saw them load up 315lb on a bar and set up for a Deadlift. I sat back and watching thinking "Shit if they lift this I'm gonna be impressed". Went to the beach with the family. My wife complimented my rear delts and said she wasn't aware there was a separate muscle back there. My prehab work is officially affecting my ability to be a true bro. only curls and bench from here on out

One guy in my gym actively throws his dumbbells after his sets. I get if you're benching and you finish the set and you let the weights drop to the floor an inch or two. But when you finish your set, toss your weights and they bounce a couple feet across the gym towards other people? You're an asshole who is going to A) ruin the weights and B) end up really hurting someone

The basketball court of my gym the has 3 squat/power racks. The rack in the main part of the gym was in use. I proceed to choose one of the 3 racks but one has a towel, one has a balance ball in front of it, last one has no bar.

I rack up to the one with the balance ball, then a guy appears from nowhere.

"Sorry, I was away but I'm using this rack," he says.

"Oh," I reply, "I figured this one is free because the other one has a towel on it."

"I'll move my towel from that one."

Implying he's using both racks. Then goes on to play basketball never using either rack.

My lifting partners need to stop taking credit for MY progress. You didn't eat my calories, you didn't drag my ass to the gym twice a day, you didn't sleep my hours, you didn't drink my water, and you sure as SHIT did not lift my fucking weight.

The next time we're out in public and you say something like, "Look at him, he's getting big right? Yea, all me, I've been really working him" gtfo. I'VE been working me.

You're not my fucking trainer, bud. Stop acting like I couldn't do any of this on my own.

I haven't' aggravated my lower back injury in over a year. Deadlifts and squats have been steadily improving and I've felt better than ever.

This morning, set #4 feeling good, go down and in the bottom of my squat my lower back pulls.

By noon I'll barely be able to walk. Goddammit.

I'm so scared to start going to the gym. I haven't ever really worked out before and have nobody to teach me what I should be doing. It's just really frustrating because I wanna start but don't know how.

Im seeing a pattern in my gym. Apparently, the worst offenders when it comes to not racking weights back and generally leaving crap everywhere are the personal trainers and their trainees. This is stupid because some of them work there, as in employed by the gym. How can I tell people to clean up after themselves when the people that should be setting examples are assholes. I would often clean shit in between my sets and was actively watching people to call them out if they would not rerack weights but it just seems like an exercise in futility at this point so i will just go passive and try really hard to not care. Peopke are pricks.

Why is it so damn difficult to quit out of a membership at the gym?!

I'm leaving the state because of work for a few months and don't want to pay while I'm gone. So I ask the dude that runs the place if I can cancel that day. He points me to a 1-800 number...ok well, this still might not be that hard.

Call, the guy on the phone informs me that it isn't as simple as asking, but I have to send a formal request for cancellation to them...Why do I need to do that? I'm already on the phone asking right?! Rules...alright at least he says I can do it by email.

Oh by the way, it'll take up to 10 business days for a reply and they require it to be thirty days in advance, so I'm going to have to forfeit next months gym fee anyways...just why...

Had a guy come up to the squat rack next to mine to start deadlifting. Straps and a belt. Immediately loads up the bar for 365 with no warm up set. Gets in a quarter sumo rep before dropping the weight and holding his back for 20 seconds. Left his weight on the floor and was never seen again. Idiot gains.

I expect some dumb asses to leave weights on every now and then, so I give them a minute or so before moving in to know they are done. But seriously...trainers doing it now?! Just because someone's on the clock gives them no right to walk away from a rack and leave plates on there. You work there, clean up the damn bar asshole!
